Who TF is Michael Lombardi?

"It's in the proper forum". That quote says everything. I did not know we had a proper forum to **** on people. @Ian will have to update his forums to designate his "**** on people" forums.

Everyone knows that BB and Lombardi are best friends and essentially the same guy. I am not sure how you could not be aware of that. I have no defense for the guy, but I am not ****ting on anyone in any forum.

I eventually tire of everyone ****ting on anyone, and ****ting on anyone's friends, and pretending it is OK because they are in the proper forum.

I have no time for your excuses or your ears. You made the thread because you wanted to disguise a new thread to **** on BB. And now you are pretending something else. What a waste of space.

You're being a clown, stop showing your ass. Get a grip.

I am not the one that started this ridiculous thread. Clowns start threads like this. I am simply calling you out. You have no response because you have been faking your intentions and thought no-one would notice. Absurd.

Literally look at the posts you dolt. I even urge caution because of the bias in the article. I also say "it'd be interesting to look up Lombardi's time with UNLV", something I'm waiting to do as I'm traveling today, and ultimately an GENUINELY INTERESTED IN KNOWING WHAT LOMBARDI HAS DONE TO SEE HIS TRACK RECORD MORE CLEARLY.

That clear enough?

Backpedaling like crazy. I got it. You are innocent and have no idea what issues are involved.

OK. No problem. Nevada and Las Vegas. What happens in this thread says in this thread.

Keep chasing ghosts, man. Or take another shot, whatever works.

Beyond his magic last name (despite no relation) Lombardi was a legit scout/personnel guy in the NFL for 30 years with stops in SF (SB ring), Cle before the move preceding and including BB's time there, Philly, Oakland, Denver and another stint with BB here in New England from 14-16 (2 rings here) then left to work less but paid more as a talking head. He may sound like he's talking out his ass on a lot of things but he is a legit talent evaluator in addition to being a marginal human being. He goes back 30+ years with BB so he is a trusted 'Bill Guy' and certifiable water carrier for The Hoody. As a consigliere he seems to leave a lot to be desired, seems like BB coulda done better

FWIW he has a Wiki page if anyone actually cares about his background:

I don't know of 'fired from every job he had' is a fair criticism, because that seems to be the norm in the NFL. Very few get to plan their departure on their own terms.

I learned of Lombardi from his time as a consultant for the Patriots, then on Simmon's podcast, then a different one he had after he parted ways with Simmons. I'd be interested to know why he parted ways with Simmons. Probably got a better offer since Simmons doesn't pay well. Also Simmons still mentions him from time to time so I don't think they are on the outs with each other.

I did enjoy the podcasts because he was willing to say provocative things instead of the milquetoast stuff most NFL insiders spew. It was clear that some of his takes were just for entertainment value and others were pure ********. He is good at things like coming up with nicknames and slogans. Apparently he tries to make some coin on the speaker's circuit and has written a couple books too.

OTOH he did some media with Bill in Bill's 'gap year' between us and UNC, and I didn't find it enjoyable at all. It was pure milquetoast if not outright ball washing, IMO.

It's obvious people know where to find my opinions on his role at UNC. My only comment here will be that he is the one credited with the "33rd NFL Team" slogan that was used during UNC recruiting pitches. I'll let others decide if this was creative genius or creative license.

Thanks for that. I should have realized he had a wiki page. OFC he has a wiki page. It's 2025, my wife's dog probably has a wiki page. I dropped by PFR to make sure of the order of teams and years. I need to remember what a convenient quick reference spot it can be as long as it is viewed critically.

The purpose of my post was to illustrate Lombardi is in fact a legit NFL guy, he paid his dues as it were. That's who TF he is. We're not talking Matt Millen here, a guy whose name got him a personnel/GM position he had no place holding. Lombardi worked his way up and had at least some success with multiple NFL franchises, fair to say he was a legit NFL 'lifer' before he decided media work was a lot lighter and paid better. I don't begrudge him whatever success he's had, he earned it. No amount of FO success has earned him the right to crap on interviewers doing their jobs though, that is BS and the only thing I called him out on. Period

ChatGPT missed the one season he was the actual GM in CLE, but it was a one-and-done thing.

Wiki sez:

In October 2012, sportswriter Jason La Canfora reported that the Cleveland Browns were considering Lombardi for their vacancy at general manager.[11] He was hired for that position five months later.[12] On February 11, 2014, the Browns replaced Lombardi with Ray Farmer.[13]

But yeah, pretty much everything after that point is not leadership roles, AFAIK.

It sounds like it was a true **** show that Cleveland year:

Joe Banner and Mike Lombardi ended on bad terms with each other, and Browns owner Jimmy Haslam wiped out both

TL;DR: The owner paired up Joe Banner as CEO with Mike Lombardi as GM, and the two bickered to the point that both got fired after just one season.

Apparently Lombardi was the GM who drafted Barkevious Mingo.

Mingo was drafted 6th overall, only lasted three seasons in CLE, then played one season each for five different teams, including our beloved New England Patriots. Presumably he was recommended by Lombardi, since both of them came to NE right after he was fired from CLE. Presumably his career highlight is getting a ring with us that season, 2016.

Gotta say, that's not what you want from the 6th pick in the draft. From what I remember he just wasn't big and strong enough to be an edge, and didn't tackle or cover well enough to be a linebacker.

Interesting article:

Calls him an ass but says he convinced Bill to look at Moss? (If I'm reading that while transcript correctly). Interesting.

It’d be interesting to find more about what players he had input on. I plan on looking at those UNLV teams sometime this weekend.

Is this another BB hate thread masked as a Mike Lombardi thread?

How long will this go on? Where did BB touch you? Can you share your feelings why that touch now creates pain for you?

And @maust joins in. Remarkable.
I'm only 9 posts in but they've all been about Lombardi.

Maybe you're being a bit too sensitive re Belichick.

Feel free to leave if it bothers you so much.

Ah, your post update reminded me to check those UNLV teams. Thanks, haha.

It's interesting to see Lombardi travel around. To @maust point, while every single stop has decided that he is an ******* (and it truly does seem like he was fired from some of those, not just leaving due to timing), he must've been pretty legit on the personnel front for awhile. That attitude wouldn't work without the success. It remains to be seen how good he has been in recent years - UNC's rough start notwithstanding, the personnel situation is probably the area of most grace, or rather, next year will really give a sense as that will be their first full year of recruiting and really getting to bring together a team they want.

OIBS rising on the "ignore list" standings...
Please put me on your ignore list. Alternative opinions are too difficult for you to consider. I would not want you to feel injured.
