While I get annoyed at the constant bring-back to Bill in every thread, that doesn't mean I'm not constantly wondering what in God's name is going on in his head lately.

Something that has popped up quite a few times in examining Bill and the downfall of his time at the Patriots, and something with which we're very familiar, is how important it is for Bill to have the staff he wants. It led to the extreme success and extreme lows. He had the ultimate brain trust slowly erode over 20 years and reduced to a malignant, burnt popcorn kernel in form of Patricia and Judge taking over duties for which they're not qualified.

One person that is still around, and questionably so, is Michael ****in' Lombardi.

Lombardi is a generational jackass, his takes when he does media stuff are almost obviously trying to be rude, but are also very often just garbage takes. He seems to think that if he is disrespectful or acting like an overbearing authority that it grants his word more purchase.

Who the hell even is Michael Lombardi outside of his last name? Why has this guy gotten so much daylight in a league where I can't even figure out what the Christ he is responsible for.

Now at UNC, he is the GM and seemingly has input on personnel. Was that his capacity here, as well? Was that frog looking mf'er in Bill's ears for those terrible drafts?

Listen, at the end of the day, Bill made his own bed and dug his own grave. I get that. But I'd still like to know: who the **** is Michael Lombardi and is he as much of a jackass as he appears? Or am I missing something?

The guy's tenure with Belichick seems to coincide with Bill taking a sour-ass mood on _everything_, and being more "me against the world" than "our team against the world."

Thoughts?

Beyond his magic last name (despite no relation) Lombardi was a legit scout/personnel guy in the NFL for 30 years with stops in SF (SB ring), Cle before the move preceding and including BB's time there, Philly, Oakland, Denver and another stint with BB here in New England from 14-16 (2 rings here) then left to work less but paid more as a talking head. He may sound like he's talking out his ass on a lot of things but he is a legit talent evaluator in addition to being a marginal human being. He goes back 30+ years with BB so he is a trusted 'Bill Guy' and certifiable water carrier for The Hoody. As a consigliere he seems to leave a lot to be desired, seems like BB coulda done better

Michael Lombardi is Brandt to Bill’s Big Lebowski

Who tf is Mike Lombardi?
For being Bill's most loyal sycophant over the years, BB tossed him a three year $1.5 mill/yr contract courtesy of the Carolina taxpayers.

To add to this, I found this article: Divided locker room, disastrous results: Players, parents blame Belichick culture for UNC problems

"Lombardi's only listed college experience is as a recruiting coordinator for UNLV from 1981-1984. In the NFL he began as a scout with the 49ers. He worked with Belichick with the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots"

A nod that he technically has college experience, though I'm not sure how those UNLV teams faired/if they looked good. Would be interesting to dive deeper there.

"In Lombardi's first season as Carolina GM, he has struggled at football's most important position. Belichick and Lombardi were able to retain quarterbacks Max Johnson, who suffered a broken leg in 2024, and Bryce Baker, a four-star high school recruit from Kernersville, NC. They landed Ryan Browne in the transfer portal from Purdue. According to sources, Browne was asked to leave after spring practice. Lombardi tried to rescind Browne's NIL money. According to sources, Browne got a lawyer involved and reached a settlement."

Before this paragraph, you'll find Lombardi being described as rude and nasty, however much weight you put into parent's comments with student athletes in UNC football. To supplement that idea of biased takes from parents, deep into the article you come across this line:

"The points of division are small, but the feeling among sources is that the little has become big"

So again, take the finer details with a grain of salt it seems; hard for me to understand truly how much "dysfunction" there is, but gleaning what you can from the factual reporting, it doesn't paint Lombardi as the guru that his ****hole attitude suggests.

I suspect it's a case of Lombardi thinking he's a big turd in a small bowl as far as his current attitude is being reported

Is this another BB hate thread masked as a Mike Lombardi thread?

How long will this go on? Where did BB touch you? Can you share your feelings why that touch now creates pain for you?

And @maust joins in. Remarkable.

Someone needs to tell Mike Lombardi that he isn’t fooling anyone with his man wig. It looks bad.

-Q: Mike Lombardi was a loyal guy for years…

-DAVIS: Mike Lombardi? Yes, he was all right.

-Q: And he’s taking shots at you…

-DAVIS: That’s part of life. You just live with those things. He was with me eight years. Mike Lombardi has been fired from every job he’s had. Every job. He can’t get a job. Last year he was fired from a job he was working for for nothing. He was fired from Denver. But he does have ability. He does have some ability.

But he was bad to Shell. Not necessary. You can’t get that in an organization, somebody in the organization bad-mouthing the coach.

Hey now, for the record I took a shot at Lombardi not BB. Let's keep that straight. I'm a good 3-4 drinks away from being stupid enough to stick my leg in the meat grinder of the taste great/less filling BS. I'm guilty of plenty here but drunk posting isn't among my sins

It is all the same. Shots at Lombardi or BB.

Can't let the past go. Have to live in the past. Any excuse to reflect and regret. There must be 5 of 6 BB hate threads at this point.

Why can't people enjoy and celebrate the past? I am not going to answer that question because @Ian will ban me for life.

BB's GF is embarrassing.
BB is nothing without TB12
Mike Lombardi is a mysterious figure
BB did not get a NFL job because he wants total control
BB is losing in college football
BB lost it before 2019

On and on and on.

It's in the proper forum and mainly about Lombardi, not really hating on Belichick. Not sure what to tell you. I complain about the Belichick hate all the time. And again - Lombardi is an entirely separate human being.

Got some defense for the guy? Lodge it, I'm all ears. It's the whole goddamn reason I made the thread.

"It's in the proper forum". That quote says everything. I did not know we had a proper forum to **** on people. @Ian will have to update his forums to designate his "**** on people" forums.

Everyone knows that BB and Lombardi are best friends and essentially the same guy. I am not sure how you could not be aware of that. I have no defense for the guy, but I am not ****ting on anyone in any forum.

I eventually tire of everyone ****ting on anyone, and ****ting on anyone's friends, and pretending it is OK because they are in the proper forum.

I have no time for your excuses or your ears. You made the thread because you wanted to disguise a new thread to **** on BB. And now you are pretending something else. What a waste of space.
