Who should the Pats have signed?

Interesting that Incognito strong dislikes because of his nasty personality but Talib didn't.

Emmanuel sanders def - pitt was right up against the cap - a more aggressive , front loaded but reasonable offer and hes a pat.

Steve smith, derrick mason

Lynch only cost a 4th rounder iirc, seemed like our kind of cheap gamble at the time

Dunno what its cost to get beasley here but he seems like the next legendary slot wr for us

Disagree with talib- at the point he hit fa he was still way too injury prone to throw that kind of money at. Denver got extremely lucky with him - or peyton hooked him up with u know what.

How did Denver get lucky? Talib was an elite cover corner when he played for New England, he made the pro bowl. Denver made a great deal with talib

It's amazing how many pats fans are in denial about Talib. After week 6 of 2013, pats fans on this forum we're calling him the best corner in the NFL. Patriots fans loved Talib. He was a huge success here.

GUY WITH WHITE BEARD, MLB/ILB, PS146. 5'11", 170 lb. High-motor guy and a frightening presence in the middle, never caught flat-footed, doesn't stay in 1 place very long. Greatest locker room leader since Ray Lewis fired up an empty garage for some reason on that super bowl pre-game. PROs: Can shout "WHO'S YOUR DADDY" at opposing QBs and make them wonder; saw Jethro Tull live in 86 and still has the light stick to prove it. CONs: stiff hips in coverage, at 66, makes you wonder what else is in that avocado ice cream he's always eating. Medicare does not pay for everything the training staff prescribes, prescriptions can only be filled in certain drug stores outside the Boston metropolitan area.

Wait maybe he's the forgotten Ryan brother...

Thanks for actually making me smirk. That equates to an LOL for my non-demonstrative-self.

Martellus Bennett, and it ain't even close. Dwayne Allen is garbage juice in comparison.
Why specifically do you say it's so obvious? Gronk has been healthy (knock) so far and his legendary self. If we're talking skill players, for the investment, wouldn't Blount be the more obvious choice (flame away and not why I made this thread)?

He was never a free agent, but he was up for trade: Joe Thomas.

Great locker room guy, superb left tackle.

Right now: Akeem Ayers and Lamar Houston, if either has anything left in the tank. Their DE/OLB corps is thin.

Looking back, I wanted Manny Sanders desperately, but I can't complain about the current crop of WRs!

A linebacker who can actually cover? There was one on the bills cheap but he was called a bum by some on here.

Imagine these 2 together. Even though it would have been impossible to get both AND Chandler Jones in the 1st round

Completely missed the point. When healthy, yes worth every penny and definitely elite. But he was too injury prone for that kind of deal. Bb knows his skill better than you and i, but Didnt break the bank for him because it was a risky investment. This was right before he went and shelled out huge $$ for revis and the gilmore a few years later, so its not like he couldnt afford talib, and we all knew how good/important he was to the defense. Nobody is in 'denial' about his talent, at least not me because my beef was never with the talent, so you might want to be a little more clear before saying all this.

Denver got lucky because he suddenly became durable the next few years and played through all the important playoff games. He did not do that with us especially in the 2 biggest games as a patriot. He got hurt in the 12 afcc running across the field, missed the rest of it. Then missed the 13 afcc after a collision with 5'9 wes welker. Hard to turn around from that and offer the same kind of deal denver did. In hindsight sure it turned out a great deal for them but at the time, alot of us coul understand with not signing him.

Akeem Hicks

Jabaal Sheard…or at the very least Alex Okafor

Zach Brown

Terrelle Pryor

Pretty amazing that even with the advantage of hingsight, we're coming up with very few names, and even fewer where there's more or less agreement. (Sanders and Hicks?) Personally, I think Talib's a stud, but he's the exact sort of guy we don't give a long term deal. And I'm still glad we didn't sign him. Injury issues and off the field issues? BB almost never gives that sort of guy a long term deal.
