What's wrong with the Chiefs?

Assuming health Mahomes will win at least one more. Maybe two. But he won't hit 4. Even if he wins this year. I found the talk last year of Mahomes catching Brady to be hilarious, and that's before he got his 7th. Montana and Bradshaw got 4, but in the uncapped era. While Brady blocked others from getting more, the most anyone would have likely got if he never played was 3. It is hard to win multiple rings in the uncapped era. Particularly when off your rookie deal. Mahomes has the ability to be the first QB in the uncapped era besides Brady to win 3 (Aikman doesn't count). In part because he's just that good, but also because Brady won't be in his way. But he ain't catching Montana, let alone Brady.
Ive always said it.

Mahomes will win 2 or 3.

I am not so sure. IMHO, he has a very short window, and that window is closing. He has had miniscule cap hits (last year $5 million, this year $7 million) because the team keeps converting his salary to signing bonus. Well that is rapidly going to catch up with him.

If they continue that strategy, his cap hit next year will be a still-low $13 million, with about $112 million in dead money.
Then in 2023, the cap hit is something like $23 million with something like $123 million in dead money.
Then in 2024, the cap hit is around $30 million with still over $100 million dead money left over. Ouch!

they started counting, were talking about passing the torch, they have some big loudmouth on this team and I just love it when they lose...

I wonder what the over/under would have been, 10 years ago, on the number of rings Aaron Rodgers would have in his career?

Rodgers has choked so many god dang times in the playoffs, 2014 NFC championship being a notable exception. I was a fan of his for a long time but then pulling that beautiful mystery crap and basically blaming everyone but himself for their playoff failures, through his actions, really made me see him for the jerk he is. Rooting against him in every game he plays this year.

We'll see.

I think he's good enough to win another.

Same with the legion of boom and Russell Wilson after that Denver beat down. They were all young, about to enter their prime, and already looked dominant as can be.

Mahomes seems distracted. Not sure why.

The Rodgers to Mahomes personality comparison is off base in my opinion. Rodgers comes off as a smarmy tool and a diva while I never really got that sense from Mahomes. He may have painfully annoying hanger-ons like his wife and brother who act like fools because they need attention like they need air but Mahomes seems pretty down to earth.

It is tough to read Mahomes. I have never really heard his teammates talk about him one way or the other. I see him on the sidelines yelling at them a lot when they are playing poorly. But other than that, it is hard to tell. I mean I do not think he is on the Rodgers level as who could be? lol

Wouldn't you be distracted if Andy Reid was taking care of your kid? Crazy.

*He* is definitely good enough to win another. The team, however, may not be. Right now they have the worst defense in the League in terms of points allowed (and the 2nd worst in terms of yards allowed). They're scoring 30 points per game, but are still just 2-3. That's not a recipe for a championship season.

They also have his contract to deal with on top. They are going to have to start drafting really well to get better quickly or else the whole thing could fall apart.

Yeah...very hard to tell about what someone is like behind the scenes vs. in front of the camera. One certain player with the nickname "Superman" was called the greatest, most unselfish, team-oriented teammate of all-time but couldn't be on a roster if he wasn't starting and then every team in the NFL declined to sign him in any capacity. Weird...but I digress...

What I see from Mahomes is a very big problem and similar to the one Aaron Rodgers started having circa 2012 when his play really took a huge dive and never really got back to the previous level. He's creating the defensive pressure himself by dancing around in the backfield; I can't remember the last time I saw him take a snap, stay in the pocket, and read through progressions for 2-3 seconds without drifting/juking and causing his own protection problems. As John Hannah recently pointed out linemen don't have eyes "in the back of their asses."

Like Rodgers, this stuff doesn't show up in passer rating so much, so fans overlook the impact, but it shows up in yards per play, which then shows up in points per game, which then shows up in wins and losses. We'll see if Mahomes takes the path or Rodgers by continuing to do "what's cool and comfortable" by improving all the time, getting highlight reel throws, and losing more often as a result.

Good stuff. The other thing about Mahomes is he is unorthodox. Look at his feet and his throwing motion on most plays. He very rarely just sits there and squares this shoulders and makes a throw shifting his weight from his back foot to his front. This is why his accuracy issues have surfaced which I had predicted would happen the longer those bad habits continued. The no look passes IMO are just dumb. Reid has to tell him to stop that immediately. Not only is he inaccurate with them, his receivers don't know he is throwing to them and they either pop it in the air or just drop it altogether.

Football is such a game of precision. KC is so off platform with their offense that defenses now are just sitting back and being patient. I am amazed that Reid cannot figure out the 2 deep safety/4 man front. It can be beat but you have to take the run. I realize it goes against the DNA of the team but it is has been fascinating to watch them implode with this style of defense going back to the SB.

It's odd that you don't see them throwing to RBs much considering the defenses being thrown at them. Edwards-Helaire and Wiliams have a combined 20 targets in 5 games. As a comparison, the Bucs are also facing defenses looking to take away the big play, and they've thrown to their running backs 45 times.

If you consider that Kelce truly isn't a traditional tight end because he barely blocks and is used as a WR, they've thrown 7 targets to actual tight ends. By comparison, the Bucs have thrown 40 passes to tight ends. Not everyone will agree with taking Kelce out of the equation, but the bottom line is defenses know they need to cover him downfield, so it's not like he's disgusing the run/pass options.

So that's 85 passes the Bucs have thrown to running backs and actual tight ends playing as tight ends and 27 for the Chiefs. If you count Kelce, they have 69, but again, they're not mixing it up and finding different ways to attack you; they're just throwing downfield to big play receivers on almost every down.

Can you guys take this to the Chefs subforum or go follow them at Chefs Planetoid. This is a Patriots forum for criminy's sake. This doesn't belong here at all.

They're a potential AFC foe and it's a significant issue worthy of discussion since it does shift the balance of power in the Conference.

If Mahomes doesn’t win this year why is it guaranteed he’s winning another. Kelce will be a year older I don’t care how good Hill is Kelce is too important and than that Mahomes money kicks in. He’ll always have a bad to average defense at best and if Kelce slows down it’s over meanwhile Buffalo and the chargers are getting better by the game. Allen/Herbert can go toe to toe with Mahomes
