What's the Stupidest Thing You've ever Thought/Said about the Patriots ?

Right after the 2002 draft I wrote that I hated the trade up for Graham and the Branch pick.

I thought that I had saved that post as a text file but I was wrong about that, too.

This is actually something I've done. This is a hard one for me to admit...

During the Oakland game, (you know the one - playoffs, in the snow) I was sitting about three rows from the field right on the goal line. It was cold - I mean real cold, and as the game went on I was continually sipping from the flasks we had smuggled into the game to "keep warm." Nothing had happend on our side of the field for most of the day. Around the end of the third quarter, I realize that I've had way too much to drink and need to get the hell out of here before I get sick all over the guy in front of me. We made it back out to the parking lot (which by this time resembled a revolutionary war army camp - rows and rows of tents covered in snow) just in time to see the tuck rule on tv, and Adams kick through the snow. I distinctly remember saying "boy that sure looked like a fumble to me!" - Doah, blame the wild turkey.
Don't ever tell anyone else that ever again. Trust me.

Someone else has already mentioned it.

After losing to the Jets in 2001 and it looking like Bledsoe was going to be out, I posted on this board that I wished we would go ahead and just really suck bad so we could get a high draft pick again.

I'm still upset about that one. Damn Super Bowl win!

I think I was one of those Bledsoe over Brady people. But I'm pretty sure I had gotten over it by the Superbowl.

I had some extreme doubts about the team after the Milloy incident and the Buffalo loss as well. I thought, oh here is Belichick's Cleveland charm just resurfacing on a different team. Now it all goes downhill.

Fortunately, I refrained from putting my thoughts in print.

It's horrible being a fan sometimes. I think it would be easier for me to list the things that I have got right over the years. The Dillon one is the one that really bothers me- that was just soooooooo wrong on my part. :bricks:

I am one of the "who the hell Ben Watson" guys. But after that pick and what he did I offically started drinking the kool-aid. I know there are other but i just can't think of anything right now.

Well, the one thing I AM sort of proud about was that I didn't automatically think Belichick's time in Cleveland meant we were doing the absolute wrong thing in hiring him. I don't think I was jumping for joy, but I do recall thinking...hm, Bill Belichick, that's the guy who knocked us out of the playoffs that one time a few years ago. I was so sure we'd win that game and I couldn't believe we lost. I felt kind of pleased he was on our side for good.

I knew he had been a coodinator with us afterwards and all that, but for some reason, that playoff game always resonated so much with me.

great thread.

I really wanted Weis fired in 01/02/03...finally got on board in 04.

as far as dumb quotes...just insert your favorite derrogatory name, and I guarantee I used it on Weis a couple times.

I was glad to see BB acquire some weapons over the seasons, TEs, Dillon, and the motherload of 2006, but I didn't like drafting receivers so low and a guy like Seymour so high...I was WRONG!!!

Worst of all though, I jumped off the bandwagon prematurely 3 times: Denver '01, Jets '02, Skins '03...and despite learning my lesson each time, I still jumped off last year when Koppen went down against Miami (which for me was the last straw)...I will never make the mistake of giving up on this team again...not while #12 is under center.

"...A lot of people have given up on us -- the media, our own fans." - Brady...we all laughed but this team plays best when they're nailed to the wall, and nobody knows that better than 12.

I thought after week 1 in 03 and cuttin Milloy, we were in serious trouble. When Law went down and we got whomped in Pittsburgh I thought our secondary was going to be destroyed.

Well, it did get destroyed -- and we still went on to win the Superbowl. What a season!

yeah, that rams game in '04 was a big relief....like ok, now we're back on track. we pulled out all the stops in that one...huge confidence boost after halloween massacre...but it crashed down at end of Miami game (worst blown lead in Brady's career) -- I just remember thinking after that game, as long as he doesn't overreact to those mistakes we'll be fine -- he didn't, we were. 2004 might've been the most impressive playoff run in history.

In 2002 I thought they would go undefeated, in fact I was already thinking playoffs were a mere formality.. boy I was wrong, but there were some great games that yr.. Pitt, At NYJ, KC at Chic, Miami...

I wanted Bishop over Brady.
How dumb was that.

"I can't believe we traded for that loser...

COREY DILLON. The guy is such a cancer and bad seed. HOW MANY TIMES has he been arrested? WTF is Belichick doing? "

Yes, I hated the trade when it happened. And gladly ate crow when Dillon put up 1600 yards.

Speaking of trades, I just remember being unhappy with the Ted Washington trade. I didn't think he was going to provide much of anything.

I was also one of the many that was beyond excited that we had just landed Donald Hayes. He was going to be a stud.

The year they went 17 and 2, I said they'd be 16 and 3. Felt like a heel.

Well let's see...

Of course I was right in line when it came to Milloy being cut and Bledsoe going down.

January of 99 during the playoff game vs Jax: "Zolak can beat these guys, be beat the NINERS two weeks ago!"

In November of 93 to my grandfather: "Do you think they should have picked Mirer instead of Bledsoe?"

The day they signed Zefross Moss: "That is the RT that is going to save Bledsoe's behind and get this team to the Super Bowl two or three more times."

Most recent drafts: "Another tight end?"

2000 draft: "Great, they got two of the guys on the top of their board, Klemm and Redmond. We will forget Armstrong and Martin soon enough."

The best of all though...after the week 16 victory vs Miami in 01 as I am leaving my cousin's house, "Brady is pretty good but he is no super bowl qb."

(WTH am I thinking making my first post here about all of the dumb things I thought about this team?)

One that I kind of got right though was during the 01 offseason I said, "Hey this team has signed a lot of guys to one and two year contracts. They will be playing hard. With a qb like Bledsoe, they could at least sneak into the playoffs." Glad I was wrong on that one.

We need to trade both Bledsoe and Brady to move up in the draft and grab David Carr.

I thought the Sullivan family would always own the Patriots. At least for this, I thank Micheal Jackson.

We're going to win tonight, guaranteed.
