Whats funny is I'm willing to bet that on any Steelers forum, they have a thread up just like this. About if the Pats could blow them out or pull of some crazy stuff to win this game. We've beaten the steelers what, 5 games to 1 or something in the previous games, i'm not that worried. No doubt they are a more complete team because of their defense but we are young and ready, they are older and will tire faster.

We can use this to our advantage... Short quick passes will surely be the Steelers problem in this game, mix it in with some run and screen plays with Woody and BJGE. keep them off their feet, have some confidence in your team!

This is the New England Patriots we are talking bout, right ?

I know, right? Exactly what I've been thinking. On this board, there is not much confidence in our team and I don't know what they think about winning a superbowl if this is such a sure loss against the Steelers.

It will be a dog fight to the bitter end coming down to a probable field goal. I like our chances in this contest, even with a new kicker and long snapper.

I agree, this will be a tough hard fought game for both teams, and if anyone can pull out a win in this game, I give the nod to the Pats everytime.

The men from snowy NE have had success against great Steeler teams since 2001--we own them like Denver seems to own the Patriots. Close game but I see us winning. Steelers have as may injury problems as Patriots and the D can be spread out and passed on (although running yards will be scant).

I have a feeling the numbers would be different if the poll were anonymous

It's the internet, how much more anonymous does it need to get?!

To better understand, let me re-state.

We were demolished last Sunday.
We are facing a similar style offense with a better quarterback and better running backs.

And you expect us to win? Why? Is it that our offense is so poor a match for PITT's poor defense?

Do you think that our newly arrived kicker and deep snapper will give us the advantage?

Or do you think that the team will realize that the game against PITT REALLY counts, not like the game against Mangini's browns?

Because this year has shown that any team can beat any other team any game. Also because I think last week will have lit a fire under the collective ***** of the Patriots and they will come out more fired up than they have been all year and really lay the Wood (head) to the Steelers. I just don't see the key components of this team allowing the Patriots to give anything less than 150% this week and I think when we are firing on all cylinders we are unbeatable.

Personally? I don't think we'll see all that much Connolly out there this weekend.

I know right? I am very, very suprised how quickly Mankins is jumping in.

End point is, we will win this game. (I voted that we blow out the Steelers).
We can argue stats all day, and the stats certainly point towards a solid Steelers win, but at the end of the day I believe we'll win.
Actually... maybe we lose a close one and then blow out the Colts as our welcome back to awesometown game... I dunno. Sounds more likely, but I'm sticking with we win every single game until we lose it!!! (Or we have 2 or 3 more injuries, in which case as a 5'8" white guy I try out for the team and immediately make the starting roster!)

Anybody else getting restless reading about the Pittsburgh game? Sunday night seems soooooo far off right now.

This might very well be a preview of the AFC championship game. The Pats & the Steelers is a very good rivalry. I can't stand those fickle fans. When the Pats win,Brady & BB are the best thing since sliced bread. We know what happens when they lose. We get threads like this. There is not 1 dominate team this year. Anyone can win on any given Sunday or Monday.

Pitt is a little overrated, but I'm definitely scared of their linebackers. They're the best in the league. Mendenhall could be a huge threat, too, but we've contained some pretty damn good runners this year. I think last week was just "that game" to get run over on. We'll see what happens on Sunday.

How are they overrated?
1. They can run as well as anyone
2. They have a top tier passer and a mix of solid if unspectacular receivers
3. They can stop the run
4. They can rush the passer and have excellent cover LBers
5. They have the league's best (arguably) safety and a solid DB corps
6. They play ave/above average on Special Teams
7. They are well coach (their best coach is not even their head coach)

What else do you want? They are not the 1985 Bears or the 2007 Pats but they are solid in all areas.

It will be great test for our team and win or lose, I do not expect TB/BB to allow a blowout.

That aint gonna happen (4 ypc) as long as BGJE is getting carries.
for the season:
94 rushes, 385 yards, 4.1 ypc

Granted Pitt has a top rush D, but asking for 4 ypc is not a crazy idea from BJGE. Just gotta block for him. Big game for Logan...

BJGE since Safeties stopped playing 30 yards downfield:

47 carries, 165 yds, 3.5ypc.

BJGE had one game with a ypc below 4.4 before the bye week. He's had one game since the bye week with a ypc above 2.2.

Yeah, Tiny sample, but Pitt is good, and BJGE isn't.

The biggest thing is avoiding mistakes. We cannt fumble near our EZ and fumble near the opponents EZ in one game and expect to win. The mistakes have to go bye bye.

Will the run D stand up? Is this the good run D I've been hearing about all season or is this the sorry excure for a run D I saw sunday?

Those are the two biggest keys to the game, I can't see us losing if they aren't corrected.

Say what you want, but this isn't panic I'm merely pointing it out. Our offense has been the model of inconsistancy since Moss has been traded. I think the hamstring injury to Branch is KILLING this team (surprise, surprise, Branch hurt) Needless to say, I'm worried. We just have not moved the ball constantly. I hope to see some improvement, but nothing is making me feel we will.

In my lifetime, the only meaningful game the Steelers have ever beaten us was the 1997 playoff game we lost 7-6...that was in a different time with Bledsoe playing for us and Vrabel mopping up for Pittsburgh.
Brady has great games vs. Pittsburgh and I hope that standard hold true yet again.

On paper, this doesn't look to be an even contest. To win, we'll need to best them in the red area and also win the turnover battle.

I think the Steelers can overcome a -1 in takeaways, but we can't. I also doubt we'll win if the turnover differential is even. We need a +1 or better, or some special teams magic.

I would be surprised if we better them in the red area. They have a mobile quarterback with a good OL line, which will put our bend-but-don't-break style of defense to the test. I might feel better if we hadn't just given them a roadmap of exactly what to do in the red area against us. Even if we can somehow make it a game where field goals are relevant, they have a serious advantage at the kicker position in a tough kicking stadium at night where weather is a factor.

Should be a fairly easy 7-10 point Steeler win unless we win the turnover battle.

I don't quite understand where all this fear is coming from. I think the Pats will lose because the game is in Pittsburgh. Nothing I saw Monday night made me super fearful. Their d is so aggressive, that to neutralize it, all the Pats need to do is actually attack it with the dink and dunk and the TE's. Ben is tough to bring down, but he's also dumber than a rock. Don't forget that.

The dink and dunk is slowly starting to have problems...without a downtown threat the safeties are playing up closer to the LOS and knowing that since there is no downfield threat they can stack the box and eliminate the Slot element.

Its no secret that since Moss had left,Welker has struggled to get open and he won't get any better results against a Steelers from 7 IMO-Welker is in the middle of a streak of his lowest production as a Patriot

I never really cared for the fact that Moss was nothing but a decoy and was really glad we got rid of his whining ass,but you can see Hernandez and Welker's production is down big time since the Miami game and that has to do directly with Moss departure as our decoy threat downfield.

If the Steelers lose this game to the Pats it will be because of turnovers and the Steelers giving the ball away to the Pats, otherwise it appears to be a mismatch.

Fair enough. It will be a tough matchup for sure, but I am always expecting and hoping for a win out of the Pats. If they happen to lose then they just have to learn from their mistakes and move forward. I hope that Browns game was a wake up call that will motivate them so they will train harder so that this Sunday is a win.

If it's of any consolation, in the BB era, the Pats have usually followed up stinkers like the Browns loss with extremely strong team games. Let's hope that trend continues this week.

None of us can stray away from the truth that we need a deep threat to help the slot receivers get open. I cant lie, i miss Moss in that respect but i still think we can figure this out. Tate is still too young to be that guy even with his speed, no one fears Tate. Edelman is... who knows. Hopefully Branch can come back healthy this game. Glad to see Taylor is back.

makes me wonder if BB is thinking about getting another receiver in here?
