What Are Belichick's Draft Priorities

I don't know about Tua, but if we aren't planning to compete for the playoffs, then we should trade or cut those who aren't part of the future (e.g. Sanu, Chung and Edelman).
To me, not even having competition for Stidham signals not wanting to really compete this year.

This is where I’m at, you don’t need to capitulate to rebuild, and they don’t have to because they have a strong roster overall. And while I’m ok with them believing in Stidham, I’m also fine with them trading up for Tua while relieving cap space and moving on from the Brady/ Patriots identity.

As much of a Brady fan as I have always been 20 years is a long time in that role, and I’m actually really intrigued by what Belichick has to do to win another Lombardi.

When it comes to knowing what BB is thinking I don't waste a second on that. I have no clue but I like it.

Go BB

Go Pats

Not me. Cost would be too high, even if there was not a question of his recovery from the hip injury. If Stidham falls on his face, as some posters here expect, our draft position next year will be considerably better than 23. It might even be top ten. In the meantime, we will have shored up a position like linebacker or interior defensive line with this year's first rounder. If Stidham performs well, we will have found our quarterback of the future and the pick(s) would have been wasted.

agree. Next years (2021) first rounder could be a top 10 pick. So Pats would be potentially be trading this years first (#23), a third and a potential top 10 pick in 2021 for a QB recovering from a serious hip and ankle injury that the Patriots team physicians have not had a chance to examine and confirm his long term prognosis is good.
Pats have so many holes to fill and trading away 2 first rounders seems like a high price to pay.
Seems super risky. I know Tua is a big name and he had a great career at Alabama but that is a lot of draft capital.
Seems like the Pats really like Stidham...more so than the fans at this point.

I agree 100%. Belichick shouldn't trade our 2021 1st for Tua if he thinks that Tua at QB would result in us getting a top 10 draft pick.

you seem to enjoy disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing. My comment was that they should NOT trade for Tua. If they keep their 2021 pick with Stidham at QB it could be a top 10 pick in 2021. I would rather have the #23 and a potential top 10 pick in 2021 to fill 2 holes than trade for Tua.

I think BB biggest priority is to keep every single poster on this forum happy in this years draft

fair enough

I think that we need to continue to be clear, since so many are resigned/accepting of a top 10 with Stidham. For this group of posters, it is almost counterproductive to improve the 2020 roster with those who will help in 2020 and perhaps 2021.

BB will probably frustrate me by reaching for about four defensive backs and ignoring
the tight end and wide receiver positions. His UDFAs will be absent any players we can
recognize.

Based on the fact over the last 9 games they averaged 1.2 passing TDs a game, .8 rushing TDs a game and averaged ~13 offensively-generated points a game, if Bill doesn't load up on offense I will lose my ****.

If it's Stid or Hoyer they need as much playmaking help as possible.

TE, WR, H-Back, RB...I don't care. I can't stand it.

Getting a 2nd round draft pick to get his coveted.... 2nd round reach that ends up failing completely DB!

It's like the Patriots rite of passage every year.

But McDaniels has been absolutely horrible at offensive draft picks at WR RB or TE aside from Scar helping us on OLine.

McDaniels doesn't pick the players.

That Jordan Richards pick still pisses me off.

Jordan Richards is still playing the in the NFL. We've had lots of worse choices. Perhaps that would be of a thread.

Didn’t Richards have a 5th/6th round grade on him? I still think it’s the worst just based off of how big of a reach it was.

I always wonder why some Pats draft busts are under-hated on this board compared to the Jordan Richards of the world. Like people never mention Ron Brace or Jake Bequette but the DB list is emblazoned on posters' souls.

Id be very happy if BB can find a way to fix the offense while also reloading the front seven.

All that can't be done in one draft. However, a couple of trades might help do the trick.

Brace and Bequette weren’t multiple round reaches like Richards was. That’s what makes that pick so incomprehensible.

Comprehension is a difficult thing. I believe Richards started in some games at SS for BALT after 4 years in the league. A lot of 2nd rounders would be fine with that. A large percentage aren't in the league after their rookie contracts.
