What’s Left To Do?

If they play Jones every down he'll be dead before the season reaches the halfway point.
Then cb 4 ,5 and even 6 are very important.
Vrabels D is a 3 cb base.

Glaring needs: a LT, a future starting RT, a stud Y TE, a young vertical threat X receiver, and a slot CB to compete with injury-prone Marcus Jones.

I think time will demonstrate Will Campbell is a can’t miss LG, not a LT. His lack of length, especially his godawful wing span, will make him too susceptible to inside moves as he overcompensates setting outside. He measures at ZERO percentile for wing span—over an inch shorter than the 6’2” third string QB— and 7 percentile for arm length. Stumpy will try hard and has the athleticism but…what happens when he’s got a slightly sprained ankle? And his footwork noticeably regressed while he was at LSU.

Karen Guregian asks the central question:
Can rookie Will Campbell survive as a left tackle in the NFL? That’s one of the biggest factors that will dictate success or failure for the line.
But why did we draft him at #4? Our TE room needed more than FA CJ Dipre.

Most of Vederian Lowe’s whiffs last year were a result of his lack of athleticism. Players were occasionally able to get around him on the outside. But his length is very good.

But an even worse situation for Drake Maye would be successful inside moves by a DE. Maye would get hit even faster.

************ State, I gave you a pass on your monumentally stupid take that they should pass on Maye and draft Spencer ****ing Rattler, but defending Verdarian Lowe and ****ting on Will Campbell is a bridge too far. The only reason Verdarian Lowe’s wingspan mattered so much is because he was always reaching behind himself to grab the pass rusher that just blew by him. Will Campbell was the best left tackle in the draft, so they took him and addressed their biggest need. And unlike last year I can’t dismiss this one because of alcohol poisoning ( which is the only possible reason for the Spencer Rattler take) this is just a truly ****ty take.

Wing spans for the following players:

6’6” presumptive starting LT Will Campbell 77 3/8”.
6’2” undrafted third string QB Ben Wooldridge 78 3/4”.

The starting LT has over an inch shorter wing span than the shortish third string QB? Houston, we have a problem.

You’re right State, they should trade Maye for Spencer Rattler, and give Verdarian Lowe $140 million to be their starting left tackle the next 5 years. **** athletic ability, he’s got wingspan.

The Patriots really need to trade for the first pick in the NBA Draft. Cooper Flagg’s WINGSPAN is 84”. He can be their left tackle for the next 15 years.

84" is an amazing wingspan.

John Hannah’s arms were only 20” and his wingspan was 48”. And he’s the greatest guard of all time.

My guess at a projected 53...

OFFENSE (25)
QB (2) – Drake Maye, Josh Dobbs, Ben Wooldridge (PS),

SPECIAL TEAMS (3)
K (1) – Andres Borregales/Parker Romo,
P (1) – Bryce Baringer,
LS (1) – Julian Ashby,

I had a hard time deciding who would get the final OL roster spot between Wallace, Robinson and Jacobs, like I said before... whoever shows up 10-15 pounds heavier with muscle. They brought small school OL Cole Birdow in, thought they should have signed and developed him.

Choose your kicker I don't care.

One of Bourne/Hollins should make it, it should probably be Bourne but Hollins might be Josh's binkie... shades of Ferentz. Blankumsee or Webb also making it at WR is probably wishful thinking considering the failure rate among rookie WR's, but this team could use more speed there.

That may be 54. Or maybe 53. Count your defense again. Particularly MLB…

I suspect that we will play a lot of 5-2, or 3-4/5-2 where the Offense doesn't know immediately.

I think we are going to love this defense. Primarily because it’s going to be the opposite of Belichick’s bend but don’t break approach. I’m not suggesting that Belichick’s patient 2 gap approach didn’t work, it did, and it was sound both strategically and in terms of results. However the game has changed dramatically over the past 25 years, and you beat the best teams by getting to the quarterback, as both the Bucs and Eagles demonstrated against the Chef’s. They are still going to have to be able to stop the run, but in general you don’t get beat by run games anymore, so it’s not the priority that having a strong secondary and pass rush is, and I’m pretty sure the Patriots have both of those areas covered this season. So I think that what we are going to see from the Patriots this season is going to be a fairly standard first down defense that can stop the run and cover, but a really aggressive attacking defense on 2nd and 3rd downs, with a variety of hybrid defenses that go after the quarterback from everywhere, and force them into throwing into a really good secondary. I think this is going to be a lot of fun for fans to watch. I won’t be surprised if they lead the league in turnovers on defense.

With the Tonga signing and a healthy Barmore we’ll see a little 2 gapping on early downs. But it will definitely be more blitzing. More early 2019 Patriots defense.

God, I hated the BBDB approach. At times it is effective, but mostly it is death by paper cut. I can't wait to see the Patriots playing a more attacking style.

I never like the way Patricia called a game. He was conservative to the extreme. I liked Flores defense best. Nobody planned a game like Belichick.

I understood Belichick’s approach. It was to force teams to throw to get first downs, and to make teams execute long drives without making mistakes, which he always saw as the key to winning( make fewer mistakes than your opponent.) And also not allowing big plays by playing conservatively. This generally led to bad yardage defenses, but good scoring defenses. But it certainly wasn’t as fun to watch as a really aggressive pass rushing defense is, and imo that’s what we are going to get this season.

Base is nickel, so we are playing 3-3 or 4-2

Vederian Lowe will start at LT this season at some point. Lowe-Campbell-Bradbury-Robinson-Moses.

I’m making a big assumption about Onwenu being let go when he shows up to TC out of shape and at 375+. Like he has the two previous times.

And assuming old man Moses will play and play well is a double-barreled shotgun of unicorns and rainbows dancing in the air.

Ozzy Trapilo being drafted at 59 hurts. Hurts bad.

Considering the cap hit VS what he will cost, t almost doesn't make sense, unless he's Juju bad.
