What’s Left To Do?

I hear you, but Jennings is getting better at his pass rush.. im no proclaiming hik to be some superior pass rusher by any means... but..he's in the top half of the league in edge setters.. as is landry who had double digit sack numbers last season at age 28.. Stinson will be in the rotation... we have good depth at LB.. Chaisson, Gibbons all these guys all project to be rotational players. Mapu as well.
Jennings is a terrible pass rusher.
How many 5th round edge rushers have you seen contribute a lot as rookies? Many first rounders don’t.

What do Gibbens and Mapu have to do with depth at EDGE? They don’t play there. Chaisson has been a failure to date.

There is concern here. I’m not one to hope a 5th round pick is a lock to be a great rookie player and feel we are all set. He is more likely to not contribute at all than to be the answer.

Naming names doesn’t solve the problem when all of those names have issues.

All I can say that's the roster right now. Let's see what happens in camp.

That’s a good thing, right? Lots of talented guys competing for their job. Only one needs to break through.

Actually I’d say Williams is close to a lock, with the other four battling for the last roster slot. And Chism should be in there too.
I'd absolutely say Williams is definitely a lock.. I have diggs, pop, and Williams as the top guys. Everyone else will be in the rotation.

This is true, but so is the garbage spewed by some here that Wolf was responsible for Belichick’s bad decisions. Belichick is the GOAT, and he’s responsible for all of his decisions.
Who cares? This is such an old argument. So boring at this point. Time to move on.

Well the topic was position groups that have concerns.
Might as well not have a board if our discussion is “that’s our roster, see what happens”

Wonder if its anywhere remotely true what judon is saying (dropping into coverage 60% of the time last year). I doubt the number is really accurate but if he was dropping back alot id wanna take a much closer look at possibly reuniting.

Personally, I'd bring players even if they are 1 year contract players. S, LBs, CBs are light IMO. Judon doesn't fit this, and I do think he is toast. That being said, I wouldnt hate it

and while we all love carrying late rounders/UDFA and finding that one diamond in the rough, they are supposed to be long shots/surprise players, not guaranteed lukewarm spots in the 53 and/or PS

The fan in me.. kinda feels for judon.. guys was awesome here and a fan favorite.. he forced his way out of town and still doesn't have a new deal.

They had some drills where OL would hold a bag for other OL. That might be what you are referring to.

No bags; they were going at it "mano a mano". Birdow did, at one point in college, play DT so it may be possible; I saw some highlights from some dinky college as a DT, and he was a man among boys....whether he can do that in the NFL remains to be seen

One thing for sure is they aren’t doing Oklahomas here or anywhere near an NFL team ….

As for what else needs to be done? Keep said players in the position they were brought in for. No fkn musical chairs with the big men please. Lack of continuity kills an OLine. I think we have enough linemen to cover every spot with a player that has played the position before. Maybe even with the backups as well. I’m quite pleased with the number of linemen brought in this year. It’s definitely NOT the “let’s put this square peg in this circular hole and see what happens!” Vibe we had last year that’s for sure.

I am hoping he takes the RT job from Moses by the end of the year... book end tackles for the next decade sounds pretty ****ing good to me...
I dont want VL playing LT for this team. I want him to get the snaps on the left side, In case of fire type stuff.

There were a few flashes of him doing decent last year but those were rare. With the crew we now have he could be a walking dead man (on his way out the door)….

Wing spans for the following players:

6’6” presumptive starting LT Will Campbell 77 3/8”.
6’2” undrafted third string QB Ben Wooldridge 78 3/4”.

The starting LT has over an inch shorter wing span than the shortish third string QB? Houston, we have a problem.

and who should be the backups at LT?

I have made a couple of suggestions for that role. The first is signing Joseph Noteboom, who was the Rams starting left tackle, got injured, and was supplanted by Alaric Jackson as the starter. He’s available and definitely better than Lowe. The second is that half the league has used 1st and 2nd round picks on tackles the past two drafts. Find one that needs a guard and trade Strange for a back up left tackle.

Alaric Jackson
Arms 32 5/8
Wing span 84”

Penei Sewell
Arms nearly 33”
Wing span 86”

Will Campbell
Arms 32 5/8-33
Wing span 77 3/8”

Does this mean Cole Strange is our starting LT? Never has a tackle measured less than 78” for a wing span at the Combine, invented by Bucko Kilroy.

Maybe individual games, but for the whole season PFF says he pass rushed on 79% of his passing plays.

Edit: according to NFL Pro, 81.6% with a low of 56% in week 15 (meaning 44% coverage).

These are the areas I would be most concerned about.

CORNER. Vrabels defense plays a lot of corners. Over 3 per snap on average. It’s a base nickel with 3 corners, not the base nickel with 3 safeties we are used to. Cb3 is a full time starter.
So Gonzo, Davis and Jones are going to play basically every down. Austin is the primary backup for all 3. If anyone is injured Austin is a starter and the next guy in line will play a lot. I’m not happy with the choices for that next guy in line.
If they play Jones every down he'll be dead before the season reaches the halfway point.
