Wes Welker's injury flying under the radar?

BTW, Welker was seen at practice yesterday. Players who are seriously injured and are not close to returning are rarely at practices. Even in street clothes.

Ok, but he wasn't on the field at all. My feeling is that after this game comes and goes he'll be back to practice.

Wes Welker doesn't get injured. Injuries get Welkered.

This reminds me of Moss in '07 not doing anything in preseason. The rumor at the time was he had some kind of hamstring problem.

That was the same thing that came to my mind...that pulled hammy managed to rip the Jets apart on opening day.

Felger kept reporting that Moss was going to be cut, and lots of us wondered if we wasted a 4th round pick on a guy who couldn't get on the field. How'd that turn out? Okay for me. And back then Moss had never played with Brady. According so some people, Brady and Welker have developed at least a slight rapport with each other. I wouldn't worry too much about Welker playing this year, but I suppose now that Brady's shoulder is okay, we need something to get all flustered about. As an excuse to run around dodging pieces of falling sky, this is as good as anything we have now. Certainly it is a bit better than panicking over our backup QB situation.

Every person I heard/read who is in any way close to the team said the plan was for him to play a LOT more than he did.

Regardless, he wouldn't have been in the locker room. That is the smoking gun that things did not go according to plan even in the unlikely event that he was supposed to be done at halftime.

I think in past years the starter played into the 3rd quarter in the 3rd preseason game under Belichick, if healthy. Last year Brady didn't, but that was because he was recovering from the foot he hurt in the Super Bowl. Normally, the starter comes out and at least plays the first drive of the 3rd quarter, as Belichick has said he wants to get him the experience of playing again after sitting down for halftime.

I'm pretty sure Brady was going to play more than he did last game, but after he got hit they decided to be cautious and not expose him to further abuse in a preseason game. I don't think he is hurt badly, but he was sore and that is why he didn't play the 3rd, not matter what Belichick says publicly.

I heard on the radio that he was at yesterday's practice. But he was not doing anything.

From Mike Reiss yesterday:

Where’s Welker? Receiver Wes Welker, who has been sidelined with an undisclosed injury, answered questions from reporters and said he’s working hard to return. He hopes to be ready for the season opener, but cited team policy in deciding not to answer a question about his level of concern with his health situation. “We really don’t speak about those things,” he said.

He doesn't actually say he was at practice, but he did say he answered questions which is another sign he isn't that injured. Seriously injured players aren't allowed to talk to the media.

IIRC Shawn Merriman talked to the media during his injury before he went on IR last year, unless you are referring to the Patriots rules.

Yes, it is a Patriots rule and it is usually strictly enforced. I seriously doubt that Welker would be talking with reporters if his injury was serious.

Other teams may allow players to talk to media from the operating room if they wish.

Rumors of Welker possibly missing game 1 v. Buffalo starting to catch fire now.

Kffl, Nfl network, Yahoo sports, other fantasy sites, Bills boards, etc.

Hope one wrong source is to blame, but feeling a little uneasy tonight.

My OSU guys (Galloway, Springs) better step up come week 1.

Certainly hope Wes is alright, I'm sure we'll be wondering for the next week and a half or so. It'd be nice if maybe Edelman came back to take away some attention from the Moss double teams.

As long as he is healthy and quasi-fresh in December.....

Would like him for the Jets game. More importantly, if he has been hurt since the early 8-20's, (maybe Cincy game?) and dosen't come back until the NYJ game on 9-20, he must've had something more serious than any of us realized--considering that'd be a month.

But you make a good point about down the stretch, etc.

Randy missed all 4 - 2007 pre-season games....and didn't practice for a month. He then went on to have a monster opening against the Jets in game 1.

As far as the rumors go, it's a nasty case of

They're almost hoping it happens. :banned:

What about Endelman? (or Edelman)

Edelman, or Welker-QB (the original is Welker-K), is also banged up.

In any case, at the moment, the cloning process hasn't fully taken yet, so I'd prefer not to have to rely on him in Week 1.

This is usually the time when I personally start to get pissed off at BB and the Pats coaching staff for not disclosing injuries to the public.

They've got the Bills in week 1. Having seen what that team is doing this preseason as it tries to adapt to T.O., other new personnel and the 'no-huddle', I'd expect that New England should be fine if Welker misses week 1.

I'm not worried about the game. I'm worried about Welker. I just don't know if I SHOULD worry or not. It's sort of the way I felt in the hours that proceeded the Brady injury last season.
