No one should be surprised a qb was picked at this spot. We all know Hoyer is basically a coach and Stidham hasn't shown that he deserves a spot. This is a weak qb class, so I kind of like how we went for a guy with gaudy stats. He is a project who will most likely amount to nothing, but you got to do it.

If he manages to stick around, he might be decent if we can improve his physical strengths in a year or two. If Mac does his job, we won't have to think about this pick.

It wasn't his worst year as a pro. The blocks were all because of the LINE. NOT Bailey. Try paying attention to the games instead of just the Stats. You'd learn a thing or 1000.

Actually, it was his worst year. The blocked punts, the low number of punts downed inside the 20, and that 14-10 game Bill's game was a doozy...

AND AGAIN HE WILL COST $4 MILLION THIS YEAR!!!

Out of curiosity, what do you use to evaluate a player's yearly performance besides stats???

Because they need to develop a backup. Stidham is probably getting cut in camp or is gone after the season(FA). Hoyer signed for 2 years but you really want Hoyer to be the #3/scout team/ asst qb coach

Agreed, a good backup is definitely important, the 4th Round just seems a bit high for a backup QB. Especially when there are starters that cab be had (ie: punter).

Day 3 pick, so another reach. if all these "reaches" do indeed turn out to be reaches who should've been drafted 2 rounds after, Coach Bill picked them, he has done irreparable harm to the franchise ...now that's a big "if"....right now people are pissed off and scratching their heads. I hope for the teams sake these guys warrant their overdrafting

6 ft with a very average arm. Very little upside. Watched some highlights and he doesn’t look anything like an NFL QB. Looks to me
Like BB has lost his fastball…

We currently don’t own a 5th. Yes we could attempt to trade back up but if you have this qb rated higher than the rest by a good margin just take him instead of hoping he lasts another 50 picks.

Mat Groh made the point last night.
-Pretty simple...you trade out of 21 because in a draft short on elite talent, no one you covet drops to you.
-You pick who you need/want at 29 because he won't be there at 50.
-You make a small trade up with a free pick you got for moving down because the second run of receivers is about to start (which did right after the Pats picked),
-You pick a second tier QB who obviously represents value to you in the fourth, because he won't be there when you pick next...starting the second run of QB's. You get too cute/gamble and you miss your guy.

Here's another way to look at:


Forget about the ROUND.
Look at the numbers...
Get your guy at 29 because he won't be there at your next pick, etc.
Do you think BB shives a git about round/reach?
Do you think BB shives a git what Count Chocula thinks?
He gets the player he wants in the order of value/priority.
He can do this because he is the GOAT and has job security.
These other GM's have to worry about front office/owner and public opinion.

Did I trip when we got a guard at 29? Yup.
Did Groh give us a little glimpse of why? Yup.
