Welcome back Andre Carter

Andre Carter: "I still kept in contact with Mayo, Wilfork and a lot of my teammates and told them they would continue to be brothers."

"As you know, the game moves on, but the Patriots will always be in my heart, no matter what."

"(The Patriots defense is) young. The defense is a lot different compared to when I was here in 2011. We're young."

"After I did my workout with the Patriots, I had talked to my family. My whole mindset was it's either the Patriots or retirement."

Mary Paoletti: Andre Carter is easily one of the nicest, most gracious guys I've covered.

New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

looks like they had him on speed dial

The call, slightly unexpected, came Monday when long-time Patriots director of scouting administration Nancy Meier contacted Carter and asked simply, "How quickly can you be here?"

Carter was on a red-eye flight from California to Boston that night. He arrived at 5:40 a.m. Tuesday, has been going "100,000 miles per hour" in getting up to speed with changes to the defense, and his presence during the media-access period in the locker room Wednesday resulted in a large crowd surrounding him.

I think at 34 he still has something left in the tank.

I'm tellin' ya, the dude's going to be like a shot of adrenaline to this team.

Let's not get crazy, the dude is 34 and hasn't played since August, hasn't been good since 2011. If he can give us 3-4 sacks the rest of the season and decent run defense/QB pressure, I'll be thrilled. What I'm happy about is he's a GREAT locker room presence, and should be a phenomenal mentor for Jones, Jones, Buchanon and Bequette.

Welcome back carter
His dreams were his ticket out
The names have mostly changed since he's been around.

I wonder who gets cut maybe baguette.

Not reasonable to expect him to be the same player he was a few years ago, but he doesn't have to be. Sunday Buchanan raced upfield and lost containment giving up a 14 yard run on 3rd and 14. This may be an example of BB's mantra that reliability is more important than ability.

No one needs to be cut. Neblett was already cut to make room.

That was my immediate thought. I think Ninkovich might be moving back to linebacker, and it wouldn't surprise me if it's on a near-full-time basis. It's either:

1) Ninkovich is moving back to LB for a significant percentage of his snaps
2) They're discouraged with Buchanan to the point that they don't even want him in a three-man rotation at this point
3) Chandler Jones is going to be taking a lot more snaps at DT.

My guess would be that it's a combination of all three, with 1 being most prominent.

Andre carter brings some experience and leadership to a very young DL,and for thatamtter a very young defense. Buchanan has the good outside pass rush move, and needs to learn an inside move to go with it. It does free Ninko to help out at LB, too.

Reading the comments from Andre Carter, man do I hope he has something left in the tank! Because what he is saying sure indicates a guy really wanting to get on the field and play. It's nice to see a player who is in the twilight of his career who has made enough money where he doesn't have to play but he still is hungry to play.

Given he is coming on board mid season and will only be used in specific/limited situations, his motor should stay revved through the rest of the year. So if his skills haven't abandoned him to a too significant degree, then couple that with his veteran savvy, I fell pretty confident in saying there will be a game or two where he contributes a much needed play at opportune times (not to mention this kind of work ethic is a great thing for the young guys to be around).

That's exactly what I meant by a shot of adrenaline. I think his presence will help re-energize the team, and he'll contribute on-field.

Re: 98.5: Andre Carter expected to sign with us today

Just heard on Gresh & Zo.

*Happy Face* Hopefully Carter can bring back some magic to our DL. We need all the help we can get lately!!

When he first came here, I dimly remember his having bad blood with DT Tommy Kelly when they both played side by side with the Raiders.

Any one know anything?

Wait. I think it was with Fat Albert as a Redskin.

Who'd a thought they'd lead you
Back here where we need you?
Yeah we tease him a lot
Cause we got him on the spot
Welcome back
