Should provide good leadership and probably some pass rush in passing situations. Hopefully his signing and the release of the DT yesterday indicates that Kelly is ready to return.

Could see Nink at LB some more with Carter at DE in some situations possibly.

A lot of people (including Belichick) saw Chandler Jones at 3-4 end in some packages as a good idea and he's what, 265? Thought Carter was bigger too, his muscle bulk makes him look a lot heavier!

If Kelly is back then Carter could just be a passing down only player though.

I wonder if this move means that they have permanent plans of Chandler Jones at DT. Could be a nice pass rushing DL in sub-packages if you're looking at Carter-C. Jones-Kelly-Ninkovich/Buchanan. I wanted Carter back last year and he had an otherwise more solid season than people would have expected after that injury. Hopefully he has something left in the tank.

Huh?!? How is it desperation? He is a guy you bring in and if he has anything left, he could produce. If he doesn't nothing lost.

A desperation move would be trading a pick for someone for more value than he is worst. Signing a street free agent is not a desperation move.

I like the move. If he can do anything on passing downs, it might let Ninkovich drop into coverage at OLB and improve the coverage. If Carter is done, there is nothing lost other than the 53rd roster spot on the roster which is just a revolving door of players added and dropped and not activated on Sunday.

That was my thought. If Carter has anything left, it does free Ninkovich to go to OLB. I think he would be better in coverage than Hightower or Spikes at this point.

I like this move a lot. Even if it's just to tutor the young guys, it'll be a huge help. Our pass rushers can learn a ****load from Carter. If he has anything left in the tank, he could probably get 4 or 5 sacks the rest of the year. I felt terrible when he got hurt, because he was playing at such a high level, and was a perfect Patriot, very classy guy.
