Week 7 TV Coverage for the NFL and the New England Patriots
By: John Morgan

Even though it is an early game the Pats game will be broadcast in about 35 states, with Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf announcing the game. Last week's Pats game drew a 35.1 rating and 62 share, making it the most-watched program by far in the Boston area....

Damn it dierdorf again

3 of the 7 games so far.

I wonder what CBS will do next week. Their late games (Jets-Bengals, Steelers-Raiders) are not as enticing as the early games (Dolphins at Pats, Cleveland at KC). I would think that would use Nantz and Simms on the Pats game against Miami.

Look at it this way - who better to narrate a Jets odyssey?

More than Game 2 of the ALCS??

More than Game 2 of the ALCS??

Yes; in fact it wasn't even close.

Sunday’s game against the Saints drew a 35.1 household rating and a whopping 62 share in the Boston area, which translates to about 1.3 million total viewers watching the game in the Boston area. That was the highest rated show of the week in Boston, even though it was not on during primetime, and the second highest rated show was the post-game show. By comparison baseball’s ALCS games one and two between the Sox and Tigers had 21.8 and 20.6 ratings respectively; good enough to be the third and fourth highest rated shows, but both were significantly less than the Pats game.

......but the old flatfoots at the Boston Globe want to somehow remind you that the Patriots are always second place to the Red Sox in Boston.

To be fair, Shaugnessy has gone on the sports hub and conceded that the Pats rule Boston now, and Bob Ryan wrote an article about it last year.... but those numbers shocked me.

That was only when Valentine steered them to last place and they were lobbying to have him fired.

Check out my last post - - where is ANY mention of this in the Globe?

Right, there isn't any. And there is a reason.

Oldtimers like my dad say they would rather have been at the Sox game than at the Pats game but from my POV, no freakin' way.

None of the media as picked this up yet. .. including Felger, who's usually keeping track of this, but with that I get what your saying. The globe will never run this.

ML is suffering from too many gameanigless games. And a major growing flaw in its appeal.

Baseball si fun at the park wiht a hotdog and beer, It si OK as background radio when you are doing something else, IT si BORING on TV,

If they would only enforce the rules already in existence it would help immeasurably. Did you even know that there is a clock in Baseball? The Umps never enforce it, and games drag on from 2 + hour they used to be, to 3+ today as the pitchers and batters screw around, contemplate navel lint, wonder what the wife wants them to stop off, bring home etc.

MLB doesn't need 40 spring training games, and 162 summer training games, only to then get serious. for a short playoff to get to the World Serirs.

The only time I would rather be at a Sox game than a Pats game is if I was suffering from severe insomnia.

As the years go, I think there's less and less people like your dad. I'm not a sox or baseball guy, but I'll admit I thought their win Sunday was cool. I can care less if they win or lose though.

I'm still in shock with the numbers though. I guess a fair comparison for the sox is to see How did the Bruins do ratings wise vs the Penguins.

Very true, I actually fell asleep watching a baseball game on my couch

That is 100% wrong. Look again at post #3.

Wicked Local Rockport : Patriots-Saints scored high TV ratings

Also shows how times have changed. More people watched a regular season Pats game, than a post season Sox game

The "times...changed" a long time ago. The NFL has been a much bigger draw viewer-wise than MLB for years.

We also can be fairly certain that the MLB suits are praying for a World Series that features either/or (but preferably both/and) Boston/LA with their attractive media markets rather than their nightmare scenario of St. Louis-Detroit.

Maybe they'd prefer LA because of the market but the Cardinals have a huge following, it's not like it's the Dodgers or the Rockies. Back in 2007 when the NLCS was Rockies vs Diamondbacks they must have been going crazy, they got lucky the Red Sox were on the other side.
