You do realize Indianapolis cut it to 7 and had all the momentum in the 3d quarter

Third quarter has been over for what...14-15 hours? Applaud you living (miserably by your tone) in the moment, but it's time to join the current timestream.

McCourty hasn't played well this season but you've been calling for his replacement for years, even when he was an elite player. Not sure why you think you have any credibility on the subject.
1. You're right--I never thought he was anything more than average to slightly-above average even in his best years, which are clearly behind him at this point. Giving him a five-year $9.5 AAV contract was a mistake. Not a franchise-killing mistake, but he and his agent must have caught BB at a weak moment, a few weeks after the Seattle SB.
2. Credibility is not a factor--good, bad or otherwise. A lot of posters and others have noticed his performance recently. Toward the end of the game, Luck was clearly targeting him. They better come up with a different plan for Travis Kelce.

Of course it is a factor. Because most of the hivemind here sees something happen and immediately raises the pitchforks. People are saying he lost a step but none of this is visible on tape. People say he got burned but when you rewatch the plays where he got beaten by Ebron and Swoop it was being out leveraged against specific playcalls in addition to perfect throws by Luck.

Has he played great ? Nope. But the reality is more complex than "he sucks". Also when he gets to play free safety -- which is how he got that contract in the first place -- he is one of the best in the league. But right now he is used in different roles because of his versatility. It is kinda funny how the two players who are extremely versatile and are used all over the place (DMac and HT) are the ones who are getting the most BS thrown their way by "fans".

You basically said the Pats barely squeaked by the ****test roster they will face all year.

What should my takeaway be from that kind of post?

I've always thought, and I believe I stated it, that they were going 11-5.

I wouldn’t say he does nothing well. He has just been playing the roll of #1 or #2 which he clearly isn’t.

Once Gordon gets more comfortable with the playbook and plays more snaps and Edelman gets in game shape, you will see a different Hogan.

Patterson has value on special teams, they can put him in the backfield, he seems to be a very good blocker for the position and he is a very tough runner with the ball in his hands. I'm not sure what Hogan does at an average level at his point. Route running...maybe?

Of course it is. Clearly, for whatever reason, you cannot evaluate him rationally, as demonstrated by:

"I never thought he was anything more than average to slightly-above average even in his best years."

and

"...he and his agent must have caught BB at a weak moment, a few weeks after the Seattle SB." [sidebar: it is baffling to me that any fan of this team, or anyone at all familiar with BB's personality or modus operandi, would posit this argument with a straight face].

He was repeatedly beaten and targeted by a visibly hobbled TE. He arrives late to plays all of the time. He is the king of the two hand touching of a guy who's already down after an 8 yrd catch on 3rd and 7.

A $12 million safety should at the very least be able to break up a simple out route to a 1 legged mediocre TE.

Written lazy garbage like this is the problem. People who condense complex things down to "he sucks". But then again you have been wrong by essentially everything you have been saying in the last 3-4 weeks so nobody will be surprised.

It was hard to tell just from watching the game footage last night, but I don't think he's lost a step. Not saying it isn't possible that he has. Just that he's essentially playing in a new(er) role this year and that comes with growing pains. It's a role that, IIRC, started in the Super Bowl. The good news is that he was solid in the Miami game so hopefully he can fully grow into as the season goes on. One does wonder, however, why they want McCourty for that role. IMO, his range seems to be best suited to deep safety while Harmon seems better suited for that role.

I agree with everything you said, especially with the qualifier at the end. The first thing I did today was checking out the DMac plays to see if there was anything obvious (like losing a step) going on. And so far based on all we have seen this season I don't see it. In fact on some plays I see him flying around like usual (e.g. against Houston across the formation to stop the run).

But as you are saying that doesn't mean that it is not possible that he has.

I have no idea why they want DMac there. But my wild guess is that he simply is better at some aspects of it than Harmon. Personally I'd rather have DMac in as FS because he is really great at it. But as usual will just defer to the coaching staff.

Your guy was targeted the entire 2nd half while covering a guy who could barely walk. When that guy came out, they continued to target him with a JAG backup. Truth.

He is not my guy.

I am just telling you the reality that is visible on the broadcast tape. What you call getting burned, I call out-leveraged and never in a position to make a play. But please come into the rewatch thread and give us an explanation what a player who is not "a JAG backup" should have done. 3 or 4 of the catches he gave up are there in GIFs to be dissected.

Please explain or stop throwing ****.

If you call DMAC “your guy,” you aren’t a real Pats fan. He belongs to all Pats fans. As a member of the team, he is one of us. You can’t be a fan of 52 guys and not DMAC.

It looked to me like Hogan was well-covered, but the DB came off him to help cover Gordon as Brady launched the pass Gordon's way.

No, when you see the all-22. You will see. I saw it on NYJFL* Network when they showed Gordon's 2 catches in all-22. The only thing I can think of is that Brady is afraid of Hooker's range? It looks like he's looking that way but there's no way Hooker gets there in time.

Or watch the broadcast version, and wait until the clots get the ball back and they'll show the QB view replay. You can see Hogan is wide open.

Why are you still here?

Why are you here? Why are any of us here? Come on Jack...we don't want to get into a deep philosophical discussion in this forum. We all know there is nothing in this world more useless than those who study philosophy. Why do we want to dive into this in a sports forum?

Was DMC moved from corner to safety because of his versatility, or because he was terrible at corner?
