To put it another way - through 3 games, the Patriots have played tougher defenses than the Cowboys (though they both played the Jets), the Patriots have made it into the red zone less than half of the number of times that the Cowboys have (7 vs 15), but NE has only 1 fewer TD to show for it (5 for NE, 6 for DAL).

Boxscore and stats from the 2021 game

Lamb 9-149 yards and 2 TD. he's going to be a problem on the turf. At least it will probably be Gonzalez not Mills covering him.

Didn't remember it being sloppy but it was. 12 penalties on the Cowboys. Pick 6 and a strip sack against Mac which probably cost us a TD. Dak had 1 pick and coughed up a fumble. Pats defense chokes in the clutch giving up 24 on a freaking 3rd and 25 to put them in FG range for the tie and OT...

We should have won that game - what an amazing bomb to Bourne to tie it.
Our Offense is certainly better on paper than that game, but lets see if they can put it together on the field.

Third time we see our old friend Gilmore after he left. Had a pick off Mac as a Panther and didn't have much to do as a Colt last year. Downgrade from Diggs at this point in his career but still a smart guy and he knows how BB thinks.
From the parts of the game I watched it seems like Gilmore was the one defending the completed pass.

Evidence is starting to mount the pats started the season playing two top 5 teams. The eagles are averaging 451 ypg outside week 1 (251 yards vs. pats). The pats held the dolphins to 24 points without their #2 & #3 CB.

Trent Brown has been pretty good this season - 98.3 pass block efficiency (13th/63), the interior OL is healthy & they may found a RT in Lowe that isn't a turnstile. Considering the rest of the schedule isn't what it appeared earlier winning this game would change their season.
So you're expecting an offensive eruption?

The Patriots are averaging about 17 points a game and i see no reason for them to suddenly have a massive outburst, the offense sucked yesterday and has sucked all season.

They are who they are many chances do you want to close out a mediocre Jets team and fail to get a first down?

We've all seen this movie before the defense will keep them in the game and they'll tease you into the 4th quarter, Mac will likely have the ball with a chance to tie the game or take the lead and won't then we'll have Moral Victory Monday.

The bottom line is the Patriots are basically needing to find an extra touchdown a game from somewhere if they want to start beating these playoff teams, they've been close but they need to start hitting the mid 20s and until that changes it's hard to see the results change, it could change as a one off if they get a defensive score or special teams play but consistently this is a team who doesn't score enough points.
Why watch if it makes you so damn miserable? We lost to two teams that have as good a chance to represent their conference on super Sunday as anyone. And both took a full 60 minutes to close us out.

We played the Jets in a tropical storm and won the damn game. The cowboys beat the Giants and Jets. Neither will be in the playoffs and then lost to the tank for Caleb Cardinals.

This is a very winnable game for NE. But why waste your time watching? I'm sure there are better things you could do on Sunday for three hours.

It seems weirdly more specific than that. They're 5 for 7 scoring TD's in the red zone, so they're finishing. And they are making completions and moving the ball in general. It's this weird dead zone between the opponents 20 and the 50 yard line where they seem to implode so far this year.

Blame first needs to be ass-igned to the play-calling, especially during the 2nd half, which was for the most part absolutely ****ing stupid.

Playing to lose rather than to win. I've seen Bill do it soo many times even in the Brady era

Get a lead. Then go super conservative. Run, run, pass. Then hope defense stops them.

Based on the most important defensive metric, the Cowboys have faced defenses who give up an average of 22.8 points per game. The Cowboys average 28.7 points per game. the Patriots have faced defenses who give up an average of 21.9 points game. The Patriots average 17.3 points per game.

Yeah, I think you are highlighting a different thing here. The Cowboys obviously have put up points and the Patriots need to put up more. What I was highlighting was red zone efficiency. The Patriots need to get into the red zone more often, but at least when they have, they've been good. The Cowboys have not been good in the red zone, but they've gotten there plenty.

This game will depend on which Cowboys team that shows up. If it is the team that lost to the Cards, I like the Patriots' chances. If it is the team that crushed the Jets, not so much. Not sure why they were so vastly different between those games. But let's hope last week started a trend with them.

I think they had a let down vs the Cards. I kind of wished they won as they will be dialed in for us to right the ship.
