Franchise perennial all pro LT's are a super rare commodity just as rare as top echelon QB's if not more rare.
Arguably almost as important to offensive success. Alt and the Penn State guy are clearly separated from the rest.
Bears could likely go OT at 1!
Nobody is going OT at #1. If a team is even thinking that, they will just trade down because someone else will pay far more to get a QB. Since Peyton Manning was drafted only 2 OT were taken number 1 over all and the most recent was a decade ago. All the other picks were QB or DE. It's just not enough value anymore

Bottom line is the team needs to hit on their first rounder whether it's a QB, tackle or wr. They also need to hit on the 2nd and 3rd rounder if not more. If we don't take a QB in the first we will need to overpay for a baker Mayfield type and they should still draft a QB if not two.

The defense is superb to compete. It's the ineptness to score points. Next draft needs to be all offense

You're giving way too much credit to Mac. He was doing that stuff early in the season. The second half he was throwing INTs and floaters. Why? Because NFL coaches scout you and they take things away from you. once they figured out he couldn't throw an out, it was all over for him. They clogged the middle of the field.

We see this happening all the time to bad QBs. They look good for several games and then suddenly the NFL figures them out.

And you are downgrading Mac too much. The entire Patriots team fell apart and they asked Mac to carry the team when he wasn't ready. And he wasn't nearly as bad as you say. He was awesome against the Jags. He was great in the second half against the Colts. Other than a pick in the Dolphins' game he was pretty good.

Part of the reason Mac was throwing picks was because the defense could stop anyone and they were asking Mac to make a lot of throws down the field and be a gun slinger at ends of games. I mean in two games against the Bills at the end of the season and in the playoffs, the Patriots defense let the Bills score on every meaningful drive (including a TD on every drive in the playoffs).

This team can't score points. It's going to be very difficult for them to win another game. Maybe Bill actually coaches and prepares properly for the Jests game? By then the team will be checked out so that game will be tough to win too.

True but they can't take BOTH Williams and Maye. Which means the Patriots are still within striking distance of that Franchise QB1.
Williams is probably most talented but terrible intangibles. At 2 I would prefer Maye or Alt

The pats have likely secured a franchise qb prospect or the best wr prospect in a decade. williams & maye are arguably the best 1-2 at the top of the draft since luck rgiii. That’s huge
And yet, three other QBs are ahead of them in the Heisman conversation.

Bottom line: Who played better today - Mac Jones or Bailey Zappe? Each of them got 30 minutes of play time.

Both sucked. Both are broken.

The team is also broken.

Adios to this season. Hopefully next year is a little better.

Next year won't get better unless we get a new GM and a new QB1.

I'm sick and tired of BB's FAIL drafting depleting our talent year after year after year.

This travesty of offense is the end result of the downward spiral of AWFUL drafting and team building courtesy of GM Belichick.

Congrats Patriots on the clutch loss!
Keep up the bad work!
Didn't watch the game as I'm trying to avoid being nauseous during the holiday season

You could be right but Bears at 1 desperately need a LT. Trade up by pats for Maye could be possible.
I do not think Kraft will OK drafting Williams

Both were equally lousy. Mac more egregiously so as he is the regular starter and the first round pick so the bar is higher for him.

Are you open to the possibility that the top two OT will have better careers than either of the two QBs ? I’d almost put money on Fashano / Alt having a better career that either Williams or Maye.

History shows that it’s actually improbable both Maye and Williams will both be successful NFL QBs.

I’d love to see Harrison here. I’d rather two years of a cousins type while NE stockpiles talent and then get a QB in the draft.

The problem with that is every year with a Cousins-type caretaker QB while you are stockpiling talent you are winning a few more games each year (but getting nowhere near a SB) you are worsening your draft position. Sure, top-5 players bust, but they have a higher hit rate than later in the round. Hopefully 2024 will be the last year in a long time the Pats will be picking this high. Get your QB if he's there*. At worst you can get a cheap vet to start the rookie's first year or two while we build up the rest of the roster.

*Of course if you think all the top QBs suck don't take one just for the sake of taking one.

Was it Bill or was it Brady? I think that question has CLEARLY been answered!
Bill has reverted to exactly what he was in 2000. He was both animated at the refs and deer in a headlights when he had no answers for the opposition. And he had a way better team to work with. He had high expectations, yet stripped the roster with no replacements for absolutely no reason.

It miraculously changed when Tom Brady took over.

Trent Dilfer foretold the future….

This looks to be the "Golden Draft" for QBs. If there's any year to suck and need a QB the 2024 draft class is probably our best chance to land a real franchise QB.

Here are a couple of 2024 NFL Draft QB Scout articles:
