PostGame Thread Week 1 OFFICIAL Post-Game Thread: Patriots lose close to the Eagles

Immediate Postgame Reactions
Mac will still have his gang of holdouts. The hard cases.

Bledsoe did as well.
It's amazing how quarterbacking standards here have changed thru the years, borderline pro bowlers used to "suck" on here.

Now the same people try and convince you Mac Jones is good, the guys arm is Chad Pennington he needs to heave a 30 yard pass like he's throwing it from 60 yards.

Throwing absolute moonballs down the sideline.

Assuming Ryland made it, they would have been able to kick another 35yd-er for the win. Frustrating.
That makes no sense. If they tried the FG the rest of the game would have unfolded differently. They might have or they might have lost, but it certainly wouldn't have come down to the same 35-yd kick.

This is an awesome learning opportunity for Boutte. The result sucked today, but I think it’s going to really help the kid and the team going forward.

One of my observations is that my happiness or unhappiness doesn't change a single ****ing thing about the Patriot's season.

You're confusing my statements with my mood.

My observations are based on what happened. Not what I wished to happen.

Mac said what many are saying. He was given the chance to win the game and he didn't. He gets it. I am rooting for him. Will he be able to take it to the next level? Who knows.

i don't think so no GIF by Rodney Dangerfield

The miserable arm chair fans in here post game.

I really wanna punch romo in the ****ing face. Hes been low key anti pats from the start but now it’s becoming obvious and annoying as ****.
You can’t take it personal. Romo never beat the Pats. Many players and Coaches that played against the Pats don’t like them. In fact, Aikman and Romo enjoy watching the Cowboys lose.

I met someone from the Spanos family at a party and they made it clear they don’t like the Pats.

Comments:

1.) Yea, I would have taken the 3 there. But at the same time, that was a lucky 4th and 8 reception by Henry.

2.) We can't afford to spot the other team 13 points off turnovers.

3.) Our D is SOLID. 25 points allowed. 7 of them via a pick six, 6 on a short field, and 3 on a 56 yard FG that could have been good from 67..... and that was a 100% healthy top 3 offense.

4.) We started 2 rookies on the OL and one guy who didn't play in preseason. Not bad, but needs to be better...and CAN get better.

5.) Enough moral victories...time to WIN these kind of games.

Let's hope we see it. His pocket presence and game presence was much better. Need to see that change in velocity depending on the situation and Mac will have turned a corner.

Put him behind Philly OL for a month and he'll be zipping. Its all about confidence. Or much of it.
I do agree he needn't wait but put more effort regardless.
maybe should watch some more of Brady zipping it at his preferred porn time..

You have to understand the offense's performance in the context of a makeshift OL vs perhaps the best pass rush in the NFL. One graphic showed Mac's time-to-throw as 2.5 seconds - that means the ball is coming out really quickly. But the Eagles know that too, and so they can crowd the short and intermediate routes and you are always running into a heavy box.

Once Strange and Onwenu are back this will be a quite different team.

Pretty much how i felt this season would go. Defense phenomenal, they’ll give us a chance to win every time out. Offense is still our achilles heel and will be all year.
Was with you, right up to the last part.

The offense has peaked, there's no chance for anyone to learn from mistakes and get better, it's all over after Game 1?

Even with so many new players on the offense, many of them rookies?

Here are some random thoughts:

- Today was definitely proof how bad the Patricia offense was last season. Start with the obvious one. Burying Bourne on the roster cost the Patriots games last year. He is the Pats' best WR, at least until Douglas develops. He was their best WR in 2021 too. Add to the fact that things were so much more productive today when Mac could call audibles at the line, there was motion in the backfield, and there was some creativity. And O'Brien actually knew he had TEs and that Henry is a real weapon.
- Mac showed signs today that he has the potential be a franchise QB. He does still has some significant red flags that need to be correct from inconsistency and his ability to throw to the right side of the field. But he has also showed he can pick apart a really good defense at times. He needs to work on the consistency. He may never become a franchise QB, but he did show some big flashes today.
- I do think he needs to start better in the game. He did put the Pats in a hole with the pick six. I don't the throw was as bad as some because the ball did bounce off of Bourne's hands, but it was off and would have been an amazing catch if Bourne caught it.
- The o-line played a lot better I thought they would. Still, Mac was under a lot of pressure and they couldn't open up lanes in the middle of the field, but it wasn't the disaster that they were all of last year.
- The defense played really well shutting down Hurts. He really didn't kill them in the air or on the ground. Granted, I think Hurts ignored some wide open receivers too.
- The rookies were really good for their first game of their career. Douglass made some big plays. He needs to get more consistent, but solid. White was a pass rush force when he was in. Gonzales held his own against Brown although getting faked out on one play. Boutte did make some good catches. He just needs to understand the NFL rules about catches going out of bounds. Mapu made some good plays. The rookie guards were decent enough.
- I think it was stupid to not kick the ball on 4th and 3. They were only down by five with over five minutes left and three timeouts. Trust your defense. Belichick made some questionable decisions today.
- Overall, I am disappointed, but encourage by today. The Pats did outplay the Eagles except in the first quarter and stupid mistakes were what cost them the game. No moral victory, but the Patriots played better than I thought they could. If they build on this, the Pats will have a good shot of being in the playoff hunt and might actually do some damage in the playoffs. I still don't think their ceiling is Super Bowl contender, but if they continue to build on it, I could see a Wild Card round victory.

3.) Our D is SOLID. 25 points allowed. 7 of them via a pick six, 6 on a short field, and 3 on a 56 yard FG that could have been good from 67..... and that was a 100% healthy top 3 offense.
Three on a 'doink' FG that went in, not to mention the uncalled delay of game penalty on the FG try.

Mac scored more than Wilson today. So he's got that going for him.

Never said that. But he’s got a better chance of doing that than your boy Zappy does when he is out of the NFL in a year or two.
That pick six was the difference.

Mac had receivers running open for majority of the game and he hit some on a good amount of them, but when the game was on the line he came up really short.

The defense gave him two chances, one of which was on their 40 yard line and he came up small. Took a bad sack and a mind blowing delay of game. Completely unaware of the situation. On the last chance, after getting a first down, Boutte beat his man and he threw it 10 yards out of bounce, then a bad ball to Bourne followed by another sack that he should have avoided at all cost, at least throw it away.

I think this team is good enough to beat bad and mediocre teams, but against good teams where QB play is going to be the difference I just don't think Mac is good enough.

Shame that we're going to waste another year of elite defense. If Brady was the QB, this team would be SB contenders.
Shut up.

If we have to lose then lose to the NFC. Looking forward to a W next weekend in a much more important game. Squish the fish.
