We have the edge over the Jets right now. The Jets have two division games left, and we have one. I say they should try playing as many division games as us before they're crowned kings of the AFC East.
As far as Jets having a proven QB, they have the same record as us; they didn't take over Tennessee's record when they beat them. Watch them play to see how they play. This is why the Jets forums are calling this year's team the "Same old Jets". That's also the headline of one of their big fan sites!
Another good sign is that we were tied at the half with the Steelers, but lost Welker. That hurt our offense in the 2nd half, otherwise, we were competitive in the first half. And our Jets and Seahawks games showed ability to come back in the 4th quarter.
Also, Mangini may very well be fired if the Jets don't make the playoffs with Favre. So if the Jets do somehow win the division, there's a higher chance the Jets will keep Mangini, which is good for us long term. Short term, this is good for us because it puts more pressure on Mangini.
This is a no-lose situation for us. While the Jets will be figuring out who their coach and QB will be next year, regardless of how they do this year, we already know we have Belichick and at least one of Brady and Cassel to start. This is fact regardless of which team is better in the remaining two weeks. Additionally, unless we get news that Brady is unable to play again or retires, we will have the best off-season since the one in which we got Moss and Welker, as compared to the long off-season we had to endure last season after losing the Super Bowl.
Assuming Brady is back and we get some good defensive talent in exchange for Matt Cassel (most realistic scenario, given the Kraftiness of our team), then we might be in an even better position than we would have been this year. Hopefully, our defense gets reloaded for another run next Fall. And, consider that we'd be 2 years removed from that spygate crap. Speaking of which, Mangini might not even be coach when we play the Jets in the Fall. Finally, we would also be coming back from a "bad" season, so we would be playing with heart and nobody could tell us we're running up points (well, up until week 2.)
