We gotta go get him (Tee Higgins)

Apparently his and other teams' desires in this process are immaterial.

Odds of getting "this specific guy" are pretty slim. Not 100% that they won't, but slim.

Get Godwin for 18 million and jakobi for 12 million . Cut or trade bourne ( jakobi is Godwin injury insurance )

You have Godwin/jakobi/ pop and Boutte as your core receivers with Polk and baker from outside looking in

2 tight end tandem with Henry and hooper and Gibson as half back.

Reading Bucs are working on negotiations to keep Godwin.

You realize the current Chiefs and the previous Pats teams had 1) Hall of Fame All time top tier QBs 2) Hall of Fame All time top tier TEs.

We don’t have those. We also don’t have a top 5 defence like the old Pats and current Chiefs do. We need an influx of offensive talent.
The Chiefs have a top 5 defense? Total defense they are 9th, against the run 8th and against the pass 18th. The math is not adding up.

Of course I realize the talent at QB and TE. Kelce also had the lowest yardage and TDs of his career this year bye the way. But I did say Josh had a wining season with Mac and no real WR#1. I think we could still become a winning team without selling the farm for Higgins...thats my point.

Sure, but we need talent from somewhere, whether it’s Higgins or not. We need an influx of talent.

And the Chiefs were 4th in points against.

Good points all. I would say that Jacobi Meyers had a 70% catch rate in 2022 with Mac Jones throwing to him.

FWIW 2024 Giants

With the (ahem...cough) quality of the Giants QB play their downfield guy was bound to take it on the chin. With a better QB and in a smarter offense you can't say his yards per reception possibilities wouldn't be intriguing. Although how much his drop rate had to do with the lousy QB play and how much is on him is hard to quantify

I like this in theory, but when teams last season took away the TEs, our offenses just stopped.

With competent blocking (lol) and a decent backfield, this should open things up. Hopefully…considering our TEs have been decent with everything else being lame, we could see huge improvements this year. Out of our whole offense, the only other real bright spot other than Drake was our TEs.

Until someone else puts another bona fide receiver, who has produced and isn't over the age of 30 in front of us as an option, you take the options that are available...

I don't care about the money... Let Kraft pony up... God knows he's saved hundreds of millions over the past two decades because TB took the home team discount and BB was stingy with the checkbook... Time to pay the piper... and if it means overpaying for a guy, then you do it...
Sorry Put isn't it time we put to bed the MYTH that Tom Brady was not "paid". It IS true that he never demanded to be the highest paid like some did, but for the majority of his last 12 or so years he was being paid very well. IIRC when he signed an extension in the late 2000's or early 2010's he WAS the highest paid QB in the league until Rodgers inched past him a year or two later.

I keep waiting for some other bright young QB to learn from what Brady did for most of his career and take a "bit" less and to add or keep a player or two, so you win more and lengthen your career and make more money outside your league salary. Brady did this, but he never gave away the farm and Bob Kraft didn't put any of the difference in his pocket (just MORE myths for patriot haters on this board)

I don't hate it but ......

I would definitely try everything possible to try to sign Higgins. He’s an extremely productive receiver who’s still young. 5 seasons in, and has had 4 seasons of over 900+ yards and 65+ catches. He had a great year as a rookie (pre Chase), and has produced without Chase. He automatically becomes the Pat’s top receiver by a mile.

If we sign Higgins, it doesn’t mean we’re done adding talent at that position. Improving the WR position MUST be a top task this offseason along side getting a LT.

Just putting this here to give an idea what the offseason could be if all goes well. I did this using Over the Cap and did not get creative with the contracts, meaning I split it evenly, so the AAV is the same for the length of the contract. Below would leave us roughly 17.4M, when they get creative with the contracts they could break it up to give us more this year. I think something like this would allow us to go BPA in the draft

Pos
Name
Annual average
OT
Jaylon Moore

Alaric Jackson
25M
LB
Zack Baun

I feel like we can actuallly get alot in FA if all goes well. I am not sold on Tee but I wanted to see if we could fit him in while filling other holes with quality players.

I want to play devils advocate a minute here. I'm not opposed to getting Higgins for the right price. I don't consider him an elite receiver but he would probably be the #1 on about 2/3 of the teams in the league. I like him and I think he is a good player when healthy and that is a concern. But do we need him so much that we pay more than we should to get him with so many glaring needs on the team? Does every team need a true #1? I would say it surely doesnt hurt but the Chiefs this year and previous Pats teams got it done with no true #1 because of the qb, the coaches the other players on the team, I'm sure its a little bit of everything. I do think Josh knows how to get it done with no stud receivers. We had a winning seasons with rookie Mac and no stud receivers that says something. I guess my thought is get Higgins if the price makes sense. If it doesnt that money can go to address the numerous other needs this year.
You can overpay Higgins and still do everything else you want
Chiefs paid Thuney, Mahomes, Kelce, Taylor and Jones instead of Hill and then used 2 second round and 1 first round pick on WR

We only have Onwenu over 20 million, and then Barmore in 2027 if he can get healthy

I don’t think we’re gonna come up with 3-4 other free agents that we would sign ahead of Higgins

Eventually, we need to sign Gonzales and Maye but that’s it from current roster and Maye is a few years away.

We have a lot of cap space

We had a lot last year as well and we see how that went. But who know who they actually tried to get but missed. I reserve judgement until after FA. I hope your right as you seem optimistic that we can get a decent WR and fill some of the numerous holes we have. I wont believe it until I see it.

What would your contract offer look like? Years? Guarantees? AAV?

Note: He plays in 75% of the games.
4/130 65 million guaranteed. Front-load as much as possible.

That still will leave us with well over 110 million in cap space.

I'm sick of buying out of the dumpster, and I feel like people have been so conditioned to it, that they think that's the norm.

I don't care if he's 'not a number 1', he'll be 26 and is light years better than anyone else we have. That alone is worth it. He's not breaking our salary cap, even if he plays out the entire deal.
