I get that players want to be treated fair by owners and teams, but this guy is just the worst. Gross.

If I was a player I would want to maximize my value ... why not.
That he does not catch more passes outside of the red zone is not his fault IMO.

Personally, I don't care. The chance Watson was resigning here was slim to none no matter who his agent is.

Yeah I agree, doesnt matter who is agent is he wasnt ever coming back. Good luck to him.

You idiots are in for a rude awakening when we have somebody who can't get open or catch on a consistent basis. He had one key drop in the playoffs and VERY few drops in the regular season. What has this guy done wrong, or is it just popular to hate on him because he was a 1st rounder putting up mediocre stats?

Watson turned himself into a tremendous blocker by the end of LAST season.

Wish he would re-sign. Probably the fastest TE in the league.

We need a Large, Blocking TE with Possession quality Hands. Someone like Daniel Graham.

We used to use the TE when he was around, and our Running game used to get to the corner...

We let him go in favor of the ultra gifted Watson, as I felt they were going all offense, and passing, yet it turned out we never try to throw to Watson... so... why did we get rid of the big TE

Didn't footballoutsiders.com just list Watson as the overall #1 TE this year?? (based on DVOA etc)

I agree that he'll probably be gone, but I'm not sure that I'll be as 'happy' or comfortable with his departure as many here. Especially with the likelihood/possibility of Welker missing time.

He didn't have the best yr with Cassel, but has always had a good thing with Brady + his blocking problems have improved a lot, at least IMO.

Some of you guys severely under-rate Watson for things he has little control over. I bet he goes elsewhere and becomes a real threat in the passing game.

Agreed.

So...Chiefs or Broncs? Sigh.

After watching Dave Thomas last Sunday, I have no doubts Watson is going to go somewhere and have a great season. And alot of people will be fuming he was let go.

That said, TE just isn't a glorified position in THIS offense and cost-wise it's probably better to look for what will be a cheaper alternative...It'd be great to keep him but I don't think he'll be impossible to replace.

I find it interesting that TE's were important enough that BB drafted 9 of them including 2 1st rounders, a 3rd rounder, 4th rounders, and 2 5th rounders......and yet none of them will be on the team next year.

:agree: I coudn't say it any better.

Didnt Ben Graham get paid huge bucks to go to Denver. Something like 30 mill, which surprised even the player. Patriots didnot even get a chance to get into the bidding with that kind of money. Also Graham had family in Colorado.

Ben Graham didnt, but Dan Graham did

Seriously, the tight end needs a upgrade , Baker was misused this year...

I expect Watson to go on and have a successful career with either one of the Chiefs or Broncos. Looks like we'll be keeping Baker now.

Well looks like TE is now a need.

Lets face it...he simply has not shown enough to justify a big commitment and paycheck at this time.

No knock on him and I think he has great potential for the team willing to invest and throw him the ball.

The PATS have too many higher priority needs right now to throw big cash at him.

He is a good man and wish him good luck except against the PATS

Best of luck to Watson, wherever he ends up. I always liked him, and never thought he got enough credit around here, and I think he'll do well somewhere. He's the complete package, but he's playing in a system that doesn't use him, so someone's going to pay him substantially more than he's worth to the Pats.

If the Pats draft a tight end in the first round I'm going to punch myself in the face. Just want to get that out there and on the record.

Yeah that's why I hope we're done using high picks on the position
