Watching the 2010 NFL Combine

Straight-line speed is over-rated, the ability to accelerate and change directions is way more important. I rather doubt Welker's 40 time is that great but he can stop on a dime and go very fast very quickly.

At his Pro Day, Welker ran a 4.61/4.64/4.68. Measured in at 5086 195. And AFAIK, that 4.61 is his fastest -- ever.

Dorin ****erson is interesting, but i have it showing him as 6'1 3/8", not 6'4".

Wonder if he could play WR, think he's played a lot of other things, te, fb.

That's what I thought - 6-2ish, but NFL.Com still has him as 6-4.

Worilds looks very good out there.

Suh is destroying the competition. He did the LB drills, and looked as good as anyone.

Pierre-Paul was timed at 4.64. Still impressive, but no so superhuman.

I'm not sold on JPP yet. He has the size and speed, but can he convert it to the field? Not much game tape to watch on the guy.

Rickey Sapp looks... skinny! What was his 40 time?
He looked pretty good in space. Compared to the other guys he was smoother in general.

Earl Mitchell looks like a real sleeper. He made the conversion to DT his junior year (from H-back of all things) and was able to be productive while flying under the radar. Any other thoughts on this guy?

He looks alright to me. Lindsey Witten and Willie Young would scare me, they have chicken legs in the Crable mould.

4.61 @ 252 which is better then sergio kindle 4.65 @ 250

Mmm, that's pretty nice. I wonder if he's on BB's radar now? Who has looked most impressive out of the possible OLB converts?

Does Derrick Morgan's 4.72 drop him out of the top 10?

Hughes moves like a cat. If he can set the edge, that's our dude in the first round.

Really impressed by Hardy, who moves very well for 280lbs, and Austen Lane looks like he was built for 3-4 OLB. Very smooth, fluid and a very nice change of direction. Nice backpedal too.

I saw the same thing with Hughes. I've seen him rush the QB plenty of times, but he looked completely natural dropping and changing direction. Moved more like a DB than what I would expect for someone his size.

Hardy looked more like a 4-3 end to me. Lane worries me a little with his plant-n-go. He plays a little high (he is a tall dude) and it looks like he is unsteady when asked to stop and change momentum.

So while they all seemed solid, Hughes looked very polished while Hardy and Lane looked a bit raw when not moving forward. Would love it if he slipped to the Pats in round 2.

Depends on his agility scores. Given the importance placed on pass-rushers, he'll probably go somewhere in the second 7 picks regardless.

That doesn't surprise me. He looks like a very fast, natural pass rusher, and it all starts with his feet and legs. He's got one of the most impressive leg drives of the OLB prospects in this draft. I am concerned that his height will drop him off BB's board though.

Oh man, am I hearing this right? McClain isn't going to run? That's disappointing.

I agree. Maybe if the NCAA could figure out a way to get these players some more exposure outside of the combine. Maybe put them in more competitive situations like they will face in the NFL. You know, with blocking and tackling. Maybe then we could see how their skills really translate onto the football field. They could do this once a week to simulate the weekly NFL schedule. 12 or so games should be enough. Wonder why they don't do this.

They have it's called the Senior Bowl. Did you guys see the highlights from practice? They showed him blocking and catching everything thrown to him. He's a playmaker. 40 times for a RB are pretty irrelevant IMO.

Want.
.....

Any linebackers stand out in the drills? I think the Sylvester kid has looked pretty good. Better than Spikes out in space.
A lot of these linebackers have bad hands. Norwood flubbed a catch.
Spikes just doesn't look very explosive moving backwards.
Daryl Washington looks smooth going backwards. Too bad he isn't bigger.

Is it just me or is Greg Hardy sinking like a lead weight? It was just a few weeks ago he was the #1 DE on most draft boards.
