Washington Post: Congress to Investigate NFL's Swaying of Concussion Study

Comey = Wells inverse

While I do not think this will do anything, I think the concussion issue may be what finally significantly and irreversibly damages the popularity of football.

Konta, you beat me to it. And probably everybody else too. They'll put on a dog and pony show, and then fork over some of those billions of tax exempt dollars to hush up the "problems" . Money talks. Man, when people start talking, it's gonna be a flood of biblical proportions.
Just to clarify the NFL doesn't have billions of tax exempt dollars.

Nothing will come of this. Congress can be paid off just as easily as a local tourism committee, or a federal judge.

Can you say ... "Big Tobacco?"

F**king jailbait lawyers in Congress, protect their fellow ambulance chasers!

Not anymore. But from 1941 till just recently they did.
No they didn't. The league offices were not for profit so they made no profit. It was made by the teams who were taxed on it.
While the teams in the league have tons of money the league itself, does not. By law they are/were a not for profit organization (again the league not the teams and owners) so they cannot have a profit.
One of 2 things must occur in that situation. Either the league has no revenue and the teams pay its expenses or the league must pass its revenue above its expenses on to the teams. There was actually no tax savings at all going on. Just something for people who didn't understand it to inaccurately complain about.

It's the NFL..they will throw their $$ around like Kontra said

Ok. You win. Your the smartest guy on the board again. Really who cares?

I am so looking forward to a Congress Critter suggesting to Goodell that he "more than likely knew......." about study results being "manipulated".

Goose? Meet Gander.

It appeared you cared because you told me I was wrong.

It's something that is often misquoted so I clarified. No one asked you to disagree without knowing the facts.

Not sure why that leads to you giving me attitude.

Unfortunately when his perjury trial comes around the standard won't be preponderance of evidence.

There is no chance this gets above the NFL influence. They are too savvy, connectected and entrenched in political wherewithal to allow themselves to be taken down by this. This actually more of a Dems vs Repubs face off than anything. You want to wake me up? Let me know when Roger is on the stand answering a question about anything regarding the integrity of the league. That will never happen, and that is precisely what should've happened since Spygate.

Integrity

Read that article again, how many times did you read the word integrity, and not think of Goodell? It's the new Billionaire catch phrase for the uninformed and uneducated.

We are angry at the wrong people in sports. It's not the players screwing us, they keep playing to play the game they love. It's the owners that can't get enough of our blood.

That's the great thing about our team; Inept and controlled owner that sits back and watches the team win, and how does it happen?

Controlling Head Coach that knows everything about the league, inside and out.

Quarterback that can win Any Given Game.

Coordinator's that now how to win and when to win.

The believe that a win doesn't equal money, but a true victory for the franchise.

All of this under the leadership of Rodger goodell.

Much as I would like to see he-who-shall-not-be-named go down, it seems to me that the stunt described in this particular article is a drop in the bucket of the NFL's corruption and malfeasance when it comes to concussions. For those that didn't read the article, basically Goodell promised to contribute a big pile of money to the National Institute of Health (NIH) for concussion research. He evidently thought he could dictate the way the research was done, who did it, and doubtlessly what the result would be just as he did with the Wells Report. However, unlike Well's firm, the NIH actually employs scientists who do peer-reviewed research (where everything is second-guessed, critiqued and put under the microscope by outside "peers"), and so when NIH decided to have a study headed up by a leading expert on the link between football and brain diseases (Boston University's Robert Stern), Goodell objected and then pulled the money. The NIH ended up funding the research by diverting funding from other areas. It was a lousy thing to do by Goodell and extremely stupid from a PR perspective, but this is a drop in the bucket. This is old news, but a much more complete story of the type of crap that the NFL has done with concussions was published by a previous New York Times article: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/25/sports/football/nfl-concussion-research-tobacco.html?_r=0

As much as I'd love to see some sort of justice for the NFL's transgressions... I doubt anything will come of this. It seems that the NFL is now above reproach.
