You guys are trippin calling for Bill to get fired for Vrabel.
Hire Vrabel as assistant HC. They did it before with Don Capers.

Vrabel can be the HC in waiting as BB begins transitioning out.

Bring in Pioli and Josh.

What benefit is there to doing that instead of just giving the job to Vrabel?

More importantly, why would Vrabel agree to that? He's going to get head coaching offers in this league. This isn't a guy who was fired in disgrace and left a team in shambles, who needs the Patriots to give him a job to rebuild his image. Vrabel is going to get offers.

Rooney Rule question:

If your 1st (only) choice IS a minority (for example: Mayo); do you still have to hold sham interviews to CYA??

He won’t be around as an assistant coach…someone will hire him. Lots of Teams looking for a HC

Don Capers wasn't as relevant a HC candidate as Vrabel is right now, and remember that they did that in the midst of Spygate, because there was a real possibility that Belichick would be suspended by the league. They wanted a failsafe so they had someone with head coaching experience already in the building if Goodell dropped the bomb.

After hiring Matt LaFleur as his first OC (a good move on paper that didn’t work out that one year), Vrabel promoted from within for his next three OCs. He doesn’t know what “new blood” is.
i hope a new gm hires the HC and OC
i admit the HC may have a say here too but if vrabel comes in as a new HC to the pats his influence wouldnt be too much I hope.

2 external minority interviews for head coach openings

If Bill is fired or leaves, this will take time

In 2021, the NFL approved changes requiring every team to interview at least two external minority candidates for open head coaching positions and at least one external minority candidate for a coordinator job. Additionally, at least one minority and/or female candidate must be interviewed for senior level positions (e.g., club president and senior executives)

Agreed. Order of operations should be:

1) Hire a GM

2) GM/Ownership hires a coach

3) New HC hires coordinators

4) HC and coordinators fill out coaching staff.

5) After the draft, GM revamps front office/scouting department to fit his vision (teams don't usually change those out pre-draft, because so much work has already been done throughout the college season).
This assumes that they already decided to move on from BB.

How credible is this guy?

No, it's called perspective. The facts are the facts. The point is if the Pats wind up with Vrabel then then they hit the ground pretty even with a lot more future potentially. There may be arguments that someone else other than Vrabel would make sense too
Bill will probably coach longer than whoever Kraft hires to replace him how's that for perspective.

I listened to an interview with a reporter from the Tennessean today on NFL network. Sounds like the owner Amy Adam’s wants a more collaborative working environment within the organization, he mentioned collaborative several times, it was in the Titans press release, so it must be the new buzz word down there, the owner wants the ownership, front office, GM and coach to work in unison every day, Vrabel wanted more control. The owner said there were talks about trading him but they decided it was too complicated.
It's funny. This is exactly what is being said in Washington as well. The owner is even going to sit in on coach's meetings.

The NFL got rid of Snyder but now his progeny are spawning

This is why Bill is not getting traded. Too complicated and at 71 he maybe has only 3-4 years left

???

Have you ever made decisions at a business?

Of course, it is useful to know your options before firing the incumbant.
They've had months.

If they don't already know they're moving on from Belichick, they are clowns

I hate the idea of BB leaving.

BUT... if it has to happen...

Vrabes as HC... and Josh as OC... both have a ton of Pats winning street cred in and out of the building... old is new... new is old...

My understanding is yes, they do. The only exception used to be [it may not exist anymore] is if a team has explicitly guaranteed a promotion if the current jobholder departs, as Belichick had in his contract with the JEST.

I'm not sure that's allowed anymore; in any case, all reports state that they did not put such a clause in Mayo's most recent contract.

Yes because you have to interview I believe at least two minority candidates.

Maybe. NFL=not for long, so whomever is a coach either here or elsewhere has to deliver fast. Legacy won't save him for long at this stage.
