UPDATED: WR Mason Responds to His Exchange with Belichick on 'A Football Life'

To be honest I thought BB was goofing with the guy when I watched it. Sounded more like smack talk more than anything. I don't think Mason has given that game a second thought up until now. I'm assuming Mason feels disrespected and a little embarrassed since the scene was aired publicaly. Don't agree with the way Mason repsonded and don't agree with the way NFL films laid it out there either.

Thats it, I bet he forgot all about it til he saw it on TV and felt embarassed so he lashed out.

It's called a football LIFE. It's not supposed to a sanitized highlight film of the 2009 season. According to the textbook, a coach should probably ideally ignore when player on the opposite team tries to mix it up with him. They are "supposed" (whatever that means), to be above that. That moment, while something we all love because 1) Mason is a tool, and 2) he had it coming (probably wasn't the first exchange of the game either).

So ultimately, many outside NE could view this as a negative interaction on both sides. You could easily see in some corners that BB should have just said nothing..... and you can see some embarrassment on Mason's behalf because he totally got pwned. Don't get me wrong, but this, I LOVED the exchange....... but it's certainly not the typical exchange that we see between coach and opposing player. It's usually just a handshake after the game.

Conversely, it showed a scene where BB is practically glowing on an opposing player during the Ed Reed section. I'm sure if anyone bothered to ask Reed about that exchange (no one will), he'd say he was flattered that a coach like BB had such high regard for him.

It's a football LIFE. Thats the good, bad, and indifferent angles of the game. I think NFL Films did an excellent job showing all aspects of it.

Personally I liked the exchange. I'm going to backpedal a little bit here. It gives us as fans insight which we rarely see which is good for us. However one can see where it would be offensive to the player. Was he notified that this exchange would be included in the film? No big deal I guess because these kind of things probably go on all the time. I just don't think players and coaches are used to having these type of interactions aired for all to see. More of a bravado ego thing on Mason's part.

That I could agree would. Perhaps not to get his permission, but at least to let him know that the exchange was "captured" and going into the documentary. That way he could have (if he had any class) could have prepared a statment instead of kneejerked a response when it came out. I'm sure he got a TON of crap from teammates about it on Friday.

Knowing it was coming in advance a player, whose probably preparing for his own game, could just release statement move on. Not that I care, but it's probably an unfair distraction to him on the Friday before a game. All he had to do, if he had notice was say:

Hey, lots of things get said in the heat of battle, and this exchange is just one of them. I have lots of respect for BB, but right now.... I'm just preparing for the XX, who we are playing Sunday. Nothing really more to comment about on this 2-year old exchange that happened during a heated contest.

Boom, then it's over. Of course this was Mason, who is a tool anyway.... but sounds like he was caught off-gaurd and turned to twiiter to craft his response. WHICH IS NEVER A GOOD THING....
