Re: ** Updated: Walsh now meeting with Goodell

Someone in the Boston media should go back onto the HBO shows Carter did and compare what he said on those shows to what he is saying now. They seem to be, you know, totally differing opinions.

Re: ** Updated: Walsh now meeting with Goodell

OK. I've seen much of the tapes they've shown and, like many of you, I have to laugh. Particularly when they showed the Charger Cheerleaders during one of the breaks.

I think its laughable that Schlereth and Carter keep ranting about how much of an advantage this tape would be when its a known fact that you can't bring video showing equipment into the locker-rooms. The only thing you are allowed to bring in sit the stills that get taken.

Now, I think that some people are confusing Rich Eisen's presentation. He has said, a few times, that its ludicrous to think that these tapes helped during a game.

One thing that I found interesting is that they keep talking about the number of wins that the Pats have had against teams since they taped them. The last I looked, the Phins are now on their 4th coach, the Bills are on their 3rd coach, the Browns are on their 2nd coach, and Steelers are on their 2nd coach, and the Chargers are on their 2nd coach. So, the tapes wouldn't help with those coaching changes unless they were just profiling coaches for future use. And, I'm pretty sure that most of the coaching changes have gone outside those organizations.

So, this really is much ado about nothing. And guys like Schlereth, Carter and Wngo should take their head out of their arses and STFU.

Worst part is that everyone knew two weeks ago what these tapes contained.

Actually, I thought they contained clear stolen shots of coaches signals taken from the sidelines.

Instead, all I'm seeing is cheerleader porn, poor camerawork, and endzone splits.

More convincing than ever before that the Patriots did NOTHING wrong until the time when the memo went out in 2006.

Re: ** Updated: Walsh now meeting with Goodell

I can't speak for Bella*Chick, but I'm giggling my ass off watching a bunch of people lose their minds because a bunch of talking heads on ESPN are doing exactly what should have been expected of them.

i'm glad you find it funny, but I don't. if you don't get how badly this is hurting us outside of this board and New England, if you don't get how tarnished all that we've believed in over the past eight years is in the eyes of the rest of the country, then I don't know what to say.

Re: ** Updated: Walsh now meeting with Goodell

The thing I don't get is, regardless of your opinion on the worth of the tapes/logistics of in-game use, did ESPN not see the tape that leaked way back in September 07? Are they really shocked at what they're seeing? Isn't this what we knew it was.
Ratings, ratings, ratings. Money, money, money. Thats what its all about. Entertainment tonight comes to the NFL. Pretty soon Nancy Grace will be doing a he (BB) looks guilty to me rant.

If the tapes were blank espn would be saying that we had an advantage somehow. That is the story they were going to run with no matter what.

Ummm . . . it's not changing many minds. The folks that hated the Pats yesterday only got new "reasons" to do so today. The folks that think this is all #@(_%& are unlikely to be swayed by it.

Boston media? why didn't the patriots prepare like that and make the tape available to their friends in the media. they've left their defenders without any ammunition and those who might be inclined to defend them have probably concluded, "if they don't care enough to defend themselves, why should I care?"

they should have started their defense on Monday morning after the Jets game. it's way too late now.

Re: ** Updated: Walsh now meeting with Goodell

More Goodell doings...let ESPN F*** the Patriots again and again..the man is evil....OK 5-10 minutes to.......Well as far as I am concerned, Goodell was part of this whole mess...and UNTIL he makes it right ...which he will not..he's evil...

And to top it off, when there is in fact a clear shot of signals being waved there are 2 or 3 coaches, each making a different signal.

Re: ** Updated: Walsh now meeting with Goodell

Exactly right. And, where is the Patriots response?

Where is the Patriots' minute by minute, tape by tape analysis of what we are seeing (they clearly knew what was coming)?.

Where is the Patriots carefully prepared refutation of the lies they knew would be hurled at them this morning?

Where is the website where the media who want to be objective can find this analysis and response and be spoonfed the patriots point of view, updated every 15 minutes or so?

Where are the commentators or former NFL players or coaches, working for the Patriots, who are available to the media via a satellite hookup or sitting in a New York hotel, to give the Patriots point of view?

In 2008, if you concede the media platforms and megaphones to your enemies, you will get creamed. That is what the Pats have done and I'm really sick of it. Why aren't they fighting back in real time? Why do they let these lies go unchallenged? I'm starting to feel that I have more invested in their exoneration than they do and I'm starting to wonder why I care so much.

You could not be more wrong. The Patriots have stated that this was a standard practice they employed. There is no more room for interpretation. If they make a big deal out of it simply because the media wants them to, then the media and all the other detractors win. You do not make excuses when there are no excuses to make. You do not provide further explanation when the initial explanation suffices. You do not give credence to sensationalist media and others with their own agendas. Basically you take the high road and stay on it.

Gary Myers of the NY Post seems to be the only mediot on site who gets it. He says Goodell is just punishing the media by making them sit through the crap they've been crying about not seeing for several months before he tells them there is nothing to it...

And they are not going to be given copies of the tapes to edit, either...LOL all they can show is their screen shots of this crap over and over...LOL And the hysterical part is most of the talking heads aren't even watching it...

Well, I for one, don't care. Why? BECAUSE I BELIEVE IT'S ALL PHONY, EVEN ALL THE HATE. This is sports, not life. People don't have to have a balanced or ethical response to this. They can just hate to their hearts content, and it doesn't matter.

I understand the feeling. There's a certain amount of shadenfreude in what Marvin Harrison is going through right now.

If the Patriots were, and still are, under orders not to discuss this from the NFL, there might be some explanation for their silence.

That's something we're going to have to live with, unless you want to change your user name to JetsFanSince08.

I don't give a rat's ass what the fans of other teams think. I also don't give a rat's ass what people who are too stupid to think for themselves end up believing about this because they get their opinions formed by ESPN's braying asses.

I'm a Patriots fan. The team I cheer for has won 3 Super Bowl titles this decade. I'm far more concerned that the team has missed 2 Super Bowl victories it should have had than I am about something as meaningless as this press conference and Trey Wingo's idiocy.

Why are you letting other people influence your feelings about your favorite NFL team?

Re: ** Updated: Walsh now meeting with Goodell

Schlereth is saying our INTs of Kordell in the '02 AFCC were because we broke down the tape at halftime. Someone please remind this idiot that the Pats taped DEFENSIVE SIGNALS.

The Pats also taped the offensive coaches sending in player substitution signals.

I agree that Schlereth is a moron, but the Pats taped on both sides of the ball.

whoa and i've got a bridge in brooklyn to sell you if you don't believe that media perceptions become reality in the eyes of most viewers unless they are challenged. we're not talking about defending the truth about the taping, we're talking about taking on the lies that are being told. if you don't do that in today's media environment 24/7, you are toast. the high road in that environment is the road to destruction.

All right, guys. Mike Fish is now on Sportscenter - he'll clear things up for us in a fair and objective way.
