Tua

Maybe not right now, but, someday, science will find a way.

He's now on IR, out till at least week 8. So we won't see him in our week 5 meeting.

If nothing else, that's good for an optics angle for the Dolphins because it delays the question of when he'll be back or when he'll get through the concussion protocol.

Shows they’ve learned something since he was first hurt in 2022.

The only thing I disagree with is that it is still Tua’s decision. If I am the Dolphins, or any other professional football franchise, at any level, I’m not letting him play unless multiple independent neurosurgeons or neurologists sign off on it. Otherwise they are looking at major lawsuits down the road. And I don’t believe that just having him sign a waiver taking full responsibility is enough to cover it, especially given the financial stakes. The NFL needs to address these situations to provide teams with a way to adequately compensate players who make the healthy decision, and give cap relief to the franchises dealing with these situations. Today it’s the fish, tomorrow it could be any other franchise.

Obviously, if he isn't cleared to play, the decision is out of his hands. But I doubt the Dolphins would ever stop Tua from playing again if he wants to. They may shut him down this year. But I doubt they will stop him from coming back next year. They will make sure they have medical staff give him all the risks of continuing to play, but won't stop him if he hears all the dangers and still wants to play.

If the Dolphins have medical experts explain the risks of continuing to play and he still wants to play, I think that will absolve the team from liability.

You’re probably right, which is why I said that if I were the one making the decision I would tell him he has to get independent neurological clearance. I would tell him that asking team medical staff would create a conflict of interest, and it has to be outside experts.

MIA will eventually allow him to play. It is all up to Tua. The current situation is that his case will be reviewed by outside neurologists. After a few weeks, depending on the MIA record at the time, the team won't make the decision. Obviously, the team doctors have to clear him, but they won't keep off the field because a history of concussions.

All this evaluated by experts really means little ... outside neurologists means little ... concussions are up like 18% ... owners/artificial turf/$$$ part of it. IMO the NFL needs to have more stringent rules for returning to play ... especially added length to return based on number of in-game concussions ... Tua should be shut down more than cleared to play or 4 games. As stated below research has limited amount of informants, criteria not approved for diagnosing CTE before death, diagnosing in-life diagnostic criteria is crucial.

"A limitation of this study is the use of informants to describe the different symptoms their loved ones experienced," says study coauthor Michael Alosco, a CTE Center codirector of clinical research and BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine associate professor of neurology. "This can offer valuable information, but we need to move toward a model where we objectively assess individuals during life and follow them until brain donation."
Although the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke has published criteria for diagnosing CTE before death -- flagging symptoms related to memory and executive function -- they are only approved for use in research, not patients. But the BU team hopes their latest findings validate the symptom criteria, with the hope that they can eventually help living CTE patients obtain a diagnosis and treatment plan.
"These findings provide a clear step forward toward diagnosing CTE in life," says Mez, who is also a BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine associate professor of neurology. "Diagnosis is crucial before we can test therapies. With validated in-life diagnostic criteria, we will be able to design clinical trials for therapies."
Here is a more detailed article if anyone wants to read through it:

There's got to be an injury clause to his contract for an out for the Dolphins.

There's no way he's coming back was him throwing up gangs signs after the Hamlin hit.
I was thinking the same thing in regards to a loophole for the Doofins in case he had another concussion and had to retire….because both sides knew of the liability and medical history and that if he took one more good hit ….that could be it….not all of this money can be guaranteed. I was shocked when they signed him at all to a big money, long term deal with his history…..either way prayers for him….hate to see this happen to anyone

And just like that, the Dolphins are back in QB purgatory with the Jets right behind them. Amazing how that happens so quickly. Dolphins and Jets fans didn't have much time to ridicule Pats fans about our QB situation.
Honestly, as long as they have Tyreek Hill and a halfway decent quarterback, which is what Tua is ….they could still be formidable….but both primary RB are banged up now….and they have issues on both sides of the ball. Hope Tua does right thing and retires otherwise F the doofins!

Imagine if Dolphins trade for Mac Jones.
If Tua has lingering effects, or long-term concerns, they need more than Skylar.
Jones would come full circle and follow Tua again. That'd be wild.
And while I have no sellers remorse, Mac could actually do decent in that offense with McDaniel.
Imagine.
Good point….very interesting

Then someone needs to save him from himself. You could make a strong argument that his brain's already too scrambled to make rational life decisions.

You're saying you think he needs a proxy?

Was wondering how this would work myself.

He's had 3 documented (and at least 2 non-documented) major concussions within the last 3 calendar years. I'm saying if his family actually cares about him, and not just about his paychecks, then yes, he should have a proxy.

Sure. It'd probably be best if we were to do away with personal freedom entirely. You know, just to be on the safe side.

Just because you or someone else does not agree with his medical decisions does not mean he is incompetent and needs someone to make his decision.

This might be the single stupidest post I have ever read

Using your logic:
Anyone that smokes needs a proxy because they may develop lung cancer and obviously they are too stupid to make health decisions for themselves

Anyone that rides a motorcycle needs a proxy due to potential for head injury.obviously, they are mentally unsound if they chose to get on that death machine.

What about people that drink? They can pickle their brain and liver. More proxies

Idiotic. Clown world.
