Troy Brown: Jets don't really believe they can win

I think the critical part of this game is New England needs to come out again and play with the same tenacity they did in the last game, and play with the same intensity throughout and not let up. I had a discussion with someone the other day about the fact we've seen them really focused down the stretch of making sure they play a complete game for four quarters, and I'm hoping that continues through the postseason.

I think the other big part of this game is whether or not Belichick can convince the young guys that they're not quite as good as some of them think they might be. They already appear to understand that, but obviously in the playoffs there's less margin for error. You lose, and you don't get another game after that to bounce back...at least not for another seven months.

Usually during the week, the Jets manage to provide the Pats with enough motivation to really want to win, so focus will likely not be an issue...

Dilfer wasn't stating what you claim he was. His exact words were: "No matter what happens on Monday night, I still believe that the Jets are the better team of the two". There was no plausible argument after that. After the game, he said that he still believed the same thing and, again, gave no plausible argument as to why. Usually I like Dilfer. I like his insights on the game. He was way off this time.

I continue to be surprised by former players who simply can't understand the system the BB is using to create this level of excellence. They look at individual players on the rosters, do a simple talent math, and decide which team is better. When the other team wins, they treat it like an aberration, a crime against football nature. Dilfer is one of the last guys I'd expect to fall into this.

if the Pats can jump out to a quick 14-0 lead, that 45-3 will start creeping in their heads, and this will be a good things, they will start turning on eachother

Exactly! My exact thoughts. It'll turn into a mental game at that point. They'll begin to try harder and make mistakes trying to get out of being humiliated a second time in a row.

On tv now. Says the Jets are trying to convince themselves, but pretty much say its hard to make up a 6 td difference in
your head.

That's great. I've not been a pro athlete, so don't really know how they deal with these things. I'm delighted to hear Troy say this is going to be a problem for the Jets. All it takes is a tiny, tiny voice in the back of the mind to create the doubt that blossoms once the game starts to get tough for the Jets.

I think the Seahawks win was a great thing for the Patriots in the fact that BB can point to that game and say "Look, I told you. If you don't play hard for 60 minutes and do your job you'll be eating cheetos on your coach next week like the defending SB champs."

I think the Pats come out this week with ridiculous focus, use all of the crap Rex and the Jests have said all season long, and demolish them again this week. It is not even going to be close.

Didn't Brad Smith get injured saturday night. His availability or lack thereof, could be a big factor for sunday. He seems to be the one consistent player on there offence.

The Jets rushed for 150 last time. They DID establish the run. It just did a whole lot of nothing

Good point. I remember seeing that troll LT do some g@y girations early in the ballgame after a couple of good runs. He ripped off a big run early (1st and 10 at NYJ 48 (No Huddle, Shotgun) L.Tomlinson right guard to NE 38 for 14 yards (G.Warren, B.Meriweather). ) and jumped up like he was a solid gold dancer. I also remember him seeing his pouting mug at the end. I am a little worried about the d-line this time around. I thought we didn't have enough guys for a decent rotation against the packers and the guys looked tired in the second half. That can't happen against the jets.

This is Jets bulletin board material. We've gone 24 hours w/o Rexy saying stupid for the next game.

Bulletin Board material....from a retired player? If that's what it takes to motivate a team, all the Pats have to do is read all of Perverted Rex's statements over the past two seasons, some of LT's stuff (in NJ and SD), Damien's, Scott's, listen to YES, read the NY Post, etc.

I think Bulletin Board stuff is WAY over-rated. I can't see it playing a factor once the first whistle blows. I have never played professional sports....but I would imagine you are so focused that a percieved slight is hardly relevant when you are trying to run your route.

The New England Patriots should be well rested for the game against the New York Jets. As for the Green Bay Packer game, the defense was unable to get off the field since the Packers dominated time of possession.

I think we'll stop them on defense, but we won't score a lot. I'm thinking 27-13 as the final score.

My take is the reverse. Jets D is not designed to stop a multi choice offense run by Tom Brady. Their focus is on shutting down one or two big play guys period. While I expect the Jets safties to perform better than 45-3 night, they are over matched.

On defense we will have some trouble if the Jets as I expect stick with a run mostly offense and simple checkdown passes punctuated with a few big play downfield tosses to Holmes who I think will score a big one on us.

I see Pats winning 34-24

My two cents: the Patriots' A game is better than anyone else in the league's A game. Their B game is worse than the A games of Indy, Pit, Bal, GB, NYJ, etc. So the other teams have a chance if they bring their A game and the Patriots bring their B game (or worse). But if the Patriots play their A game, there isn't another team in the league that can match that.

So while there are many individual things that we could worry about (the running game, turnovers, pass protection, etc.), the fact is that if NE plays like they are capable of, they will win, pure and simple.

So we just need to hope like crazy that NE brings its A game.
