Nixon is a great developmental prospect. Lots of speed and quicks but doesn't always utilized it. Very good on vertical stuff, comebacks, out breaking stuff.

Release game is pretty good. Has a little variety, patient can utilize his quicks with stutter, shuffle and hesitation moves.

Inconsistent but has quality ball tracking skills. Hands & eyes aren't always on the same page but he has big play ability and can move the chains.

R/R is inconsistent but he'll flash in several areas. Very precise at times on slants. Crisp cuts and head/body fakes. Eyes the ball into his body/hands. Sharp release & stem set up his deep stuff and he has wheels. Not just speed on paper it shows up. Isn't utilized in all areas but he has burners. Pretty clean and efficient coming out of his breaks.

Has had trouble with size at the line, in route and deep.

Needs some time and coaching for sure. Never quite got up to speed in terms on r/r but there's some potential for a 7th round pick. Not bad at all.

I can see this as a good pick that sticks because of speed. The 2 TE offense creates additional gaps at the line the safeties have to account for. Having 2 WR, 2TE, and a RB with Agholor and Nixon on the outside running go routes will create problems. The safeties have to cover Cam or the WR, but not both. Perhaps Nixon outplays N'Keal in camp and the Pats choose speed over draft position. Not many would be unhappy.

Remember David Givens was a 7th round draft choice and he had a great career. Hopefully, Troy Brown can teach Nixon the finer points of the NFL game. Wouldn't hurt if he could gain about 10 pounds and maintain his speed.

Givens AND Edelman were 7th round picks. Hopefully Nixon follows in their footsteps.

BGC...can the kid return punts? or do you have little trust in his hands?

He’s worthwhile to use on ST. He lowers his head and explodes on deeper routes and has the speed and cuts to weave through the trash. If he sticks, that’s how he will do it - as a return man or even a gunner. He needs a LOT of work though. I would have preferred Tamorrion Terry there but he went undrafted and then to Seattle. He’s going to be a find for them if they can correct some of his underneath route running.

We're heading into binky territory with this kid.

Dane Brugler's summary (graded as a 7th round pick; 45th best WR in the class):

Tre Nixon had a productive prep career at Viera High School (50 miles outside of Orlando) and set school records for receiving yards (1,243) and
touchdown catches (18) as a senior. A four-star recruit, he signed with Ole Miss (over Alabama and Georgia) and spent two years in Oxford before transferring closer to home at UCF. Nixon started 27 consecutive games before a broken left collarbone in the 2020 season opener sidelined him for six games, disrupting his senior season. Nixon is a savvy pass-catcher who works towards the void and wins with body position in coverage. Though he is a smooth strider, he doesn’t play loose, and his game lacks explosive elements. He can climb the ladder and secure throws away from his body, but 13 drops over the last three seasons is a concerning number. Overall, Nixon’s speed is more build-up than instant, but he tempos his routes and attacks the catch point with attitude, which could earn him an NFL roster spot.

Dax Milne should've been the Obvious choice here, or Cade Johnson...others available here with more size to them included Tamorrian Terry, Austin Watkins, Sage Surratt & Josh Imatourbaby...and just for the name alone, Dillon Stoner...

This position could have, and probably should have, been addressed at 120 with Tylan Wallace...or maybe even at 46 with Terrence Marshall...

Personally I prefer Nolan Garciaparra and Jaylen Varitek. Hope this works out though.

we are allergic to drafting good wide receivers

why did we draft This project over Tamorrian Terry!

ugh, no more projects at Wr!

Is that the son of the Varitek who split the uprights? (Side note: Menino actually meant ARod's face when he said uprights)

I'm looking forward to seeing him and mac jones in preseason.

After throwing to Smith, Waddle, Ruggs & Jeudy for the last 3 years, Mac might not exactly share your enthusiasm when he gets a load of his non-TE weppunz here...
