Tyquan Thornton should never be mention in the same breath with any WR. He was never even one the guy was worse than Hairy.
But yet up until we traded him some on here kept trying to defend him.

.

Better hands than Tet on contested balls, can read a defense and react, runs great routes, 6'2", 4.2 speed, won the Fred Biletnikoff award for best WR in college
No Thornton did NOT win the Biletnikoff award. He was only named to preseason watch list. Jalin Hyatt won it that year.

No he does not run great routes

Did not see any evidencr of great hands in NFL

One-if is saying Hunter won the award this year.

He won the Fred Biletnikoff award for being the best WR in college football. He is not a Day 2 offensive project - LOL.

So did Jalin Hyatt lol, Jordin Addison - good but not great, Jerry Juedy... Can anyone speak to his competition and how they see that translating to the NFL? All I'm getting is awards and draft gurus. And more, importantly can anyone speak as to why we'd play him at WR over CB?!

Because his upside as a WR might be higher since he's played the position less. He sees #1 WR money is beating #1 Cb money so he might have incentive to Push more at wr.
Either way he probably plays third down a ton on both sides of the ball.

Every scout I've seen has him as a first as a wr and as a first as a CB.

The general consensus is he likely is a perennial Pro Bowler and one of the top cornerbacks in the league thus teams lean toward CB. Yet Todd McShay says he's a better wr than CB.

We are talking HOF possible generational talent if he stays healthy, which is why Titans take him IMO. We probably get Carter or Graham.

Is he day 1 WR talent in any given draft? Or is it day 1 this year because it's not a draft loaded with top-end WR talent? (Genuinely asking, not trying to just be rhetorical).

He's first round in any draft. He's not Nabers or Chase prospect as a WR but his potential upside is a bit of a mystery due to playing both ways. I think he's a possible top 10 NFL receiver that can then go shut down a receiver as a cb on 3rd down.

do we actually know he has 4.2 speed?

he supposedly ran a 4.2 in HS........HS recruiting times are notoriously unreliable

i'll believe it when i see it at the combine
You are correct. We are not sure but he is really fast.

We are talking about Travis Hunter.

What?? Day 2?? He is going to likely be the top receiver in the draft on the consensus board, number 2 at worst. He seems to have a reputation among casual college fans of being a raw receiver who only succeeds at the position because of his elite athleticism, but if you listen to the draft guys and former scouts who have watch him and have studied his film, they say that he is a polished route runner with good releases at the line and the ability to consistently set up cornerbacks in order to gain separation.

Daniel Jeremiah, who obviously knows his stuff as a former NFL scout, has him 2nd on his top 50 big board and thinks that receiver will be his best position in the NFL. Even if you think that cornerback is his best position, it is absurd to label him a day 2 receiver prospect.
WHO did he play against? On EITHER SIDE of the ball.
Just a question.

a couple of thoughts:

PLEASE stop blaming Mayo for winning the last game. He didn't play Mayo for most of the game, he had back ups in for most of the game, and he have to acknowledge that these are highly competitive players. most of whom NEED good tape in order to continue their careers, so they are NOT going to lay down so fans can have a more interesting draft discussion. Plus, when you don't play full speed, that you get hurt. He did the job he was paid to do, and we will STILL draft a blue-chip player at #4. About the only thing we will unlikely get because of the win is draft capital from a potential trade down. But given the sudden lack of high-end interest in the 2 major candidates (Ward and Sanders) right now, who know how much it would be in the end.

It's not like I wouldn't have liked the #1 pick and all that speculative fun it would have meant to us as fans, but asking players and coaches to throw a game is not what I'd like to be associated with either. So it is PAST time we get over it and stop the whining already a month is enough.

There are now 2 options for the Pats in this draft. One is to stay at 4 and take one of Hunter, Carter, or Graham. Two is to trade down into the 8-12 area and pick wind up with 3 players in the top 50 and hope you make up for quality with higher end volume\

Any of these 2 are legit options depending on how high you hold the value of a consensus blue chip talent, versus the higher risk of those in the 2nd tier.

I just don't see Hunter being there at #4. He's just too athletic and talented.

That last win hurt...a lot. And while I don't believe in tanking, when it's a one-game meaningless scenario, lose the damned game. Let the players play hard (the second and third stringers) and run on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down. Go for it on 4th and 9...lost while learning what you have.

Let the players play their guts out but do it as you would in a preseason game - we're trying to see what we have for next year (and yes, we're trying to add the best possible talent to that roster).

Have you watched his game film and saw how much he progressed from last year to this year?

Dude ran better routes and had much better separation than Tet, plus his contested catches was the best in the country.

The old adage against DBs is that if they could catch a ball they would be WRs. We'll Hunter catches balls like an elite WR
His route tree is pretty limited because the offense did not ask him to be a route technician or he couldn't. I believe he can and it was the offense. He reminds me of a raw Garrett Wilson as far as him movement.

After watching an all targets video of Hunter from 2023 and 2024 I am convinced that Sanders is not going to be a good NFL QB. I think that he is convinced that the Giants are going to draft him.

Scouts are the same clowns who value height and speed over ability to separate. Forgive me for not quite trusting their evaluations. Forgive me for questioning the mental commitment of a player coached by Deion. Somebody else can deal with that.

Look, what I read is that he has great athleticism, but his routes are limited, and he won by pure physical talent. That is not a dynamic threat. He's Kordell Stewart.

You can't beat the best/NFL Players like he beat those guys that will be Amazon Drivers in a few months.

I am at a loss by the CB OR WR discussion. Why can't he play both? Lots of the guys in the secondary play 50% of the game, and lots of WRs play 50%. Use Hunter for his strengths. Do you need him on the field for running downs? I realize play action hides which plays are runs or passes, but it is not hard to identify most of the running plays.

If Hunter really has high 4.2 to low 4.3 speed, his hands and jump ball skills are fabulous, and he can learn multiple routes, why not play him alongside Tee Higgins, like the Bengals played Chase? Higgins, Hunter, Henry, Hooper, Douglas, and Boutte is not a bad lineup. Bourne is an injury sub. Find 2 tackles and a 3rd down back, and we have a real offense. It will take awhile to get everyone on the same page, but that is the fun part.

Considering Sanders was horrific as a deep ball passer this is kind of surprising
