PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Training Camp Day 3 - July 25

On hype about Wilson - it's one thing to be potentially ready physically to compete at this level, but a whole other thing once real games start and the amount of mental weight it takes to know all the protections, audibles, communication, etc... that's hard for a 1-year starter in college to do as a rookie in the NFL. I think he'll see some backup action at C/G the first half of the season, and then who knows. But future looks bright for sure.
Once the pads come on over the weekend into next week.. we'll know alot more. Right now some guys may look good in tee shirts and shorts...as we see it every year. However when the pads come on that's the true barometer.

be a shame to have a weapon and not use it...
I'm fine with that as soon as we sign a starting CB to play the slot.

THEN, we can have Jones as a PR and occasional player on Offense and Defense.

zero issues with those limitations on his extra curricular non defensive activities

Over his last two years at UW he had 15 TDs and averaged 17 yards a catch, and I don't think you can consider him a major reach. It wasn't a bad pick on its face (even setting aside the McConkey issue), just one that failed, much like Ras-I Dowling was a good pick who just couldn't stay healthy.

And as I've noted before, every team blows one of its first three picks almost every single year.
I watched him a lot in college and all these issues were there and glaring. I broke it down on his draft night thread. He could not separate in college and his play speed was really slow. I saw him grab a ball on a broken play when he had tons of daylight. A CB caught him when he was going full sprint with a 5 yard head start.

His calling card in college was his ability to high point point the ball and fight for it. That was impressive. But if you can't separate in college, you're not going to separate in the pros, and with your slight body, you're not going to win jump balls either.

Combine that with plenty of drops and woof! It's a bad pick.

I actually thought McMillan was the better receiver and that Polk as WR #3 on that team.

College ball is so difficult to measure stats because so many of these teams do not play defense. Especially the old Pac-12 and Big-12.

Give me an SEC WR any day because they see top CBs and top defenses.

Loving the vibe from this team and camp. I know it's easy to say that doesn't mean squat with wins and losses, but I always recall BB in 2009 saying he can't get the team to do what he wants. They got blown out in playoffs, yeah, talent still got them there but the team never gelled.

This year's team is going to be a cohesive unit thanks to Vrabel and the coaching staff and some of the veterans brought in. I expect big things from Maye so I feel really optimistic.

I figure Maye is 100 times better than Mac Jones and Mac Jones had 3,801 yards with Josh. Thus I expect Maye to be around 380,100 yards this season.
Its not unresonable to assume he will shatter the all time passing record this year.

Yes, but unless there are a lot of sharp reversals this season, you could say that Wolf and Groh managed to blow six (or, to take your view that Milton was also a mistake, seven) of their eight picks. Kick in that they wasted $7m on Brissett, signed Okorafor as their putative left tackle, and brought in Alex van Pelt (Wolf's buddy) as OC, then the fact that they still have jobs shows that they must have pretty amazing "organizational skills".
And that was the Patriots best draft position in terms of picks and their slots since the 1993 Bledsoe draft. Best starting point in 30+ years!

thats the crazy part... he's been injured since week 5 of last year... its like wtf man???
A Jones fracture can take 6 weeks to several months to heal. If you didn’t read the article, Raiders wanted him to have surgery, and he wants to let it heal without surgery. So, how bad is it still, that is the $64,000 question. Bad enough he opened camp on the PUP. I would definitely be at least flying him for physical to see what’s what.

the fact that the raiders just kicked him loose, and the comments they made about basically his commitment to the rehab process, thats a big red flag for me... they guy has talent, but man, it makes me cautious as hell...

No reason to if our WRs are worth a damn. KW has the juice, hopes are he does his thing and Marcus playing O can be an afterthought
I see your point. Although Marcus has the ability to play scat back on offense if I'm looking at it realistically..he was there because we were so inept offensively.

Vrabel likely focusing on him playing STs and Defense of course. This is a contract year for Marcus too.

What i can say.. is...if Vrabel did decide to bring him in.. I can..rest assured that he's gotta be comfortable with his commitment to football.. unlike the hugs and kisses coaching staff last season for guys...just my assumption

I watched him since his Clemson days, always seem to be a high motor, high effort guy. Vrabel has some history with him. Obv the situation needs to be vetted, but if Vrabel is comfortable with him, that’s good enough for me.

Steve: when the water boy is ahead you on the depth chart: there's not much one can do. Polk's time here is going to be very short; can't wait for that Seventh Round conditional.
Ron Wolf was in town this week.

Word has it he is working with Eliot on the novel concept of trading for conditional future UDFAs.

just cautious... How many times have we seen the "Get Paid Disappearing Act"? not say that this is the case with Wilkins... i dunno... too red flags for my taste right now...

Oh, I get it for sure. He's gotten his $$$ in the league for sure and was once regarding as a top 10 player at his position.. Definitely red flags on him.. I see him as a 1 year veteran depth player if he did come here. He slips up during the season he's gone. Just my thinking.

Shelby Harris and Sheldon rankins are still out there as well..

His commitment was never questioned before this from what I can recall. Keep in mind that the Raiders have been dumpster fire. He obv has independent doctors that think the injury can be rehabbed, so it’s not like he’s just refusing to have surgery for mo reason. Remember the Sabres/Eichel situation a couple of years ago. Sabres doctors refused to sign off on a surgery he needed. Team doctors can get it wrong

eh, would i hate the move if they brought him in? no.

at the same time, i don't think we would be getting a one year prove it deal type contract out of him...

I will let Elliot & Co puzzle it out.
