His commitment was never questioned before this from what I can recall. Keep in mind that the Raiders have been dumpster fire. He obv has independent doctors that think the injury can be rehabbed, so it’s not like he’s just refusing to have surgery for mo reason. Remember the Sabres/Eichel situation a couple of years ago. Sabres doctors refused to sign off on a surgery he needed. Team doctors can get it wrong
I've always felt team doctor's work at the behest of the team that pays them.. no matter wrong or right..

before the Pats even consider it they need to figure out how Wilking wants to proceed with his foot issue.
Agree 100%, why I think they should get him on a plane asap for a firsthand look at his foot and medical records.

While this was certainly true in the 80s, 90s, and early 00s, it started changing when the went with Independent Docs for the Concussion Protocols. A lot of coaches also changed their attitudes. I know that Belichick did. He was a lot more cautious with players in the last 10 years than previously.

And that was the Patriots best draft position in terms of picks and their slots since the 1993 Bledsoe draft. Best starting point in 30+ years!
In the grand scheme of things, not counting comp picks:

Super Bowl winner: 32, 64, 96, 128, 160, 192, 224
Team picking first: 1, 33, 65, 97, 129, 161, 193

Essentially all the benefit is in the top pick.

We have 60 plus million in cap space left among the top teams in the league.. if, in wich I fully expect gonzo too...is continuing his all pro ways i can see Vrabel doing something by the end of the season to lock gonzo up. Yes the ty law situation was tough, ty was awesome but I believe BB likely felt a younger assante Samuel would be worth the risk at the time. Ty still had some great post patriots years.
It would have to be after the regular season.
A drafted rookie contract cannot be extended or renegotiated until the third season is completed.

We did pretty well once with a former all pro who the raiders labeled a “lazy malcontent”.

Maybe lightning strikes twice
95 guys have played for both teams over the years...

I also think with Barmore's recent health issue and Williams' past rotation load, that having a healthy Wilkins would be huge security as well for this team.
I didn't realize Wilkins has current foot problems. Thanks.
You really can't have enough quality DLmen and Wilkins IS a quality DLman when healthy.

From what I've read the Pats have plenty of cap space for this year (about $60MM) and a LOT less next year (about $10MM, which surprised me.)

Even if the Pats signed him signed him to a 2-3year contract that frontloaded his money in a year where they HAVE cap space and stash him for most or even all of this year he would be a hell of addition just as Williams, Barmore and Young enter their primes in 2026 for a very reasonable 2026 price.
