No way to feel good or bad about Stidham. Not enough information. The justifiable concern is the complete lack of young talent on the roster. No te,rb,dl or lb. Slowest wr core in the league (I know the guy we just signed is supposed to be fast, but so was Dorsett). Brady left because of talent level on the team. I firmly believe that. TB has 2 receivers better than anybody we've got, and that holds true for rb and te as well. He simply has more to work with in Tampa Bay.

Dorsett is, in fact, fast. He just doesn't know how to play football.

Historical Note:
Training camp 2008 pre Brady game one injury, many of the uninformed on this board wanted Pats to cut Cassell outright.

He could be part of the picture, but I really see McDaniels playing with the rpo... I think it matches with the Tebow idea he had in Denver when starting from scratch. This would require a different qb than Stidham.

With the rosters expanding, the 2 alternating QBs becomes more of a possibility.

McDaniels might, but not at all clear that Belichick is willing to have a QB running 15+ times a game.

No way they just hand the keys to Stidham. The Pats are going to draft a QB, and they are going to add a qb in free agency/trade. There is going to be a competition. Right now I want to know who the other two guys are.

Hey it's not the first time Patriots went with the back up 2nd year QB... Remember 2001? That was ok.

Count me as one of those people. He looked terrible in pre-season that year!!!!!

Remember 2008? That's the year Brady tore his ACL the season opener, but the Pats still finished 11-5 with their backup, Matt Cassel. Unlike then, this year Belichick has the entire spring and summer to prepare. Question is, is Stidham better than Cassel?

I want to roll with Stidham. Either he has it or he doesn't...but we need to find out.

"Nobody can replace Tom Brady" so let's not compare the next guy to a 20 year veteran GOAT in the same offense with a stable coaching staff. Let's hope for a competent QB that doesn't make a lot of mistakes and let Bill figure out the rest of it.

True, but that qb would end up being more of a rb. I think Stidham will start, but BB is too smart to think that he won't struggle.

Tom WAS the playbook, and he was a huge one. In order to diversify the offense quickly, splitting the load between different skillets makes sense to me. Other benefits: load management, game planning against different defenses, and having a solid backup plan if one falls thru.

I still haven't seen enough of Stidham to have an opinion. Mobility is nice but it's not a really important skill for a QB.
Accuracy,decision-making and leadership are all much more important.
Those traits separate Mahomes and Wilson from the other mobile QBs.
They're skills that develop over time but we saw them in Brady fairly early.
You also don't know how they'll respond on a big stage under big pressure.
Brady's one of the best athletes I've ever seen in those situations,Jordan-like.
Brady is one of the 2 most competitive athletes I've seen, along with Jordan.
You can't expect that early on from Stidham. But if he can make steady improvement and be a film junkie he's got a chance to at least be good.

Well said. IMO BB has a good feel for what Stidham can become he has seen him for a year on the practice field in the film room and now how he is handling himself in the film room. HWat he does in FA and the draft will tell us all we need to know about his opinion of Stidham.

I think Stidham looked good in pre-season last year. In his one game during the regular season he threw a handful of passes, the last of which got intercepted. IMHO, that regular season sample size is not enough to disqualify him. I remain hopeful.

The 2019 roster was worse in every way than the 2007 roster so this isn't a good comparison really.
