The wild card race in detail...

Thats what I'm talking about! Never underestimate the Jets' losing potential

People are much too pessimistic here!

If we go 11-5, we will make the playoffs. Mark my words.

I've been saying that for a few weeks too, but after last night I'm somewhat less convinced. We need to win out and we need one of three teams (Jax, Seattle, KC) who are mediocre AT BEST to win a game over a playoff-caliber team who has nothing to play for. And if one of the latter two teams wins, we still need help in the Jets-Phins game next week.

I've been saying consistently that I thought 11-5 would get us in, but I'd now consider it somewhere just shy of 50-50 that this actually happens.

Obviously I hope that the Jets and Phins both lose today (and we win), at which point this would all be a moot point. I bet all of us hope that, but is anyone willing to bet their house on it?

The purpose of this thread was not motivational, but to spell out the actual and complete possibilities if different teams win and lose.

Are you dumb or what?

If The Jets beat the Hawks and the Dolphins beat the Chiefs as both should do and possibly easy,Then it does not make a damn difference what the Patriots do - 11-5 or not - The Patriots will be O-U-T with the only EXTREMELY minor possibility that if the Jets and Phins win you then need the lousy pathetic Jags next week to go to Baltimore and face the Ravens D and rob the Ravens of the last spot and any idiot can see that will NEVER happen.

If the Jets and Dolphins BOTH win this week, its see ya next year time and the draft talk will begin

Both of you are wrong.

If the Pats go 11-5 they may not make the playoffs.

But even if both the Fins and the Jets win this week and Jax loses next week, the Pats could still win the division with a Fins and Jets tie week 17.

Lets stop confusing the probable with the possible.

@PAT64 What the hell man, are you fan or what? If you're ready to give up, don't even watch the Pats game today. This is a forum, we can discuss certain possibilities pertaining to our team, we don't have to give up hope just yet.

I am as optimistic as the next person and I think either Miami or the jets Will loose today (possible both) but the idea of a tie is an extreme long shot. There has been 1 tie in what, six years and to think it can happen twice in one year is pretty slim

Once again, I am discussing all of the possible outcomes, not the solely the ones I feel are most probable.

I'll donate my left nut to science if the Jets and Dolphins tie next week for the Patriots to win - Fair enough?

Bottom line is the Pats SHOULD win their next 2 games and the Jets and Dolphins SHOULD win thier games today but I am holding out hope that the Dolphins have a brain fart in Kansas City where its not a favorable place for visitors or warm climate teams in december.

Thats my hope - However I see no chance the Jets lose today unless they lose the game by commiting several key turnovers - Nothing this week is impossible - But a tie next week?...well come on guys,Santa does not exist

I bet I could dig up threads from last year that were as dismissive of the Giants holding the the NEP Brady led offense to two TDs or less in an AZ dome as this folks are this year are dismissive of the possibility of a week 17 tie.

Any given Sunday!

Gotta give you some credit Hoodie,You are the biggest optimist on this forum with those types of hopes,More power to you ... no chance in hell of a tie (only 2 of the last 100+ played games in the NFL from 2002-2008 were ties),but nevertheless more power to you

The original post does duplicate some other threads, but is more complete. Way too many analyses (including most others in this thread) are simplified and therefore not completely accurate (even if they are much more likely to actually occur).
...

That's a fair assessment and you are polite enough to use the term "simplified" but not "simplistic," which, as someone who wrote one of the "Way too many [simplified] analyses," (below) I appreciate. The 10--6 senarios are so complex, but unlikely, that they make my head hurt; however, I do appreciate the work and thought that go into them, even if I can't manage to read them all the way to the end.

"That's pretty complicated. All i know is:

We win out and the Ravens lose a game, we get the second Wild Card.

We win out and the Jets and Fins each lose a game, we win the Division.

We win out and the Jets and Fins each win this week but tie next Sunday, we win the Division."

Uh-oh!

Didn't Dennis Leary say that he'd do the same if the Red Sox ever won the World Series? I saw the video with the horrific screams as they came to collect. No anesthesia.
