It was a favor to condon. Condon is using the niners as a ploy to increase lloyd's asking price.

Wouldn't doubt it's the same thing he's doing with them to drive up Manning's price... No wonder he hasn't let Alex Smith sign a contract yet. Bud came out of the woodwork to up the ante so he doesn't really need them, but Condon will use them against both AFC teams now that time has run out on AZ due to Kolb's option being due today.

True, although Schilens was a 2nd (okay, 3rd) tier guy I would not have been averse to the Pats taking a look at in TC at WR. 6'4, 225 lbs, 4.38 40; only 26 years old. The amount of time missed the last three seasons is obviously a huge red flag, but he seemed like a guy that would represent a low-risk, high-upside type of signing.

Schillens is a decent WR but is always hurt. Pretty good hands. Surprised alot of people by making the team as a 7th round pick. Looked real good until he got hurt 2 years ago. Now can't get healthy.

Schilens is probably the most overrated WR in free agency. There were a bunch of teams looking at this guy. Granted, not much throwing to him in Oakland, but his career season was 356 yards and 2 TDs. Constantly injured and inconsistent.

That said, if they got him for the veteran minimum with no or little guarantees, it is a low risk/potential high reward type of player. Although he has Sanchez throwing to him.
