The Official 'Trade Brady' Debate Thread - Do Not Start Another One

Okay it was an ugly, bad game... but execution? I mean, can they even execute a guy for poor performance?
Good one and reminds me of another:

Coach John McKay's famous response when a reporter asked him, after another Tampa Bay Buccaneer loss, what he thought of his team's execution. Said McKay, with a straight face, "I think it's a good idea."

Yeah, but all it will take is a 30-17 Patriots win with Cassel throwing for 3 TD's and the idiocy will start up all over again Monday.

No, all it will take is a 30-28 win and this will start up all over again Monday.

You will not get equal value

I see this coming up a lot in other threads, and it irks me enough to make a post about it. People think that other teams will give the Pats equal value for Tom Brady; this brings me to my point:

EVEN IF THEY CHOSE TO TRADE HIM (which they won't) THE PATRIOTS WILL NOT GET EQUAL VALUE FOR TOM BRADY. EVER.

There is not enough talent (players), or prospective talent (draft picks) on any team to replace Tom Brady. Tom Brady, by himself, makes your team a playoff contender every year. With some additional talent, you become a Super Bowl contender. With a good deal of help, you get yourself a dynasty.

Current Talent:
Brady gets paid, what, 14m/yr? There's no way you can get 14m of players to equal Tom Brady's talent. If you got enough talent to match Tom Brady, there's no way it would cost 14m/yr. Try more like 40m.

Prospective Talent:
Name me a draft class (yes, an entire 7 rounds of players) in the past 10 years that have had the effect on their team that Tom Brady has had on the Patriots. And, thats looking in reverse. If you could have any one team's entire 2009 draft for Tom Brady, would you take it? I sure as sin wouldn't.

In short, you will not get equal value. When you have a player like Tom Brady, you keep him. You pay him. You win with him.

Uh, you may want to move this to the "Official Trade Tom Brady-Do Not Create Another Thread" thread that Ian created for this topic. Although I haven't seen that thread in awhile.....maybe it was burned and buried for being an inane exercise.

I give you props for living dangerously!

Awe c'mon, we should be able to get an entire draft class ala NO and Ricky Williams for Tommy.

Fair point. I'll let the mods decide. I felt strongly about this and didn't think before I posted. If the mods move it there, they move it there.

Re: You will not get equal value

imHo, there IS no equal value for Brady.

$14M is peanuts for an MVP QB of Brady's caliber, let alone his work ethics. What did Asante (not a QB I know, but still) go free for, like $57M for 6 years?

I guess this would be an issue if TB was actually on the trading block someplace important like the Patriots front office instead of message boards and blogs.
It is the holiday season relax !
Go Cowboys !

Man, I thought this thread was dead.

Actually, you can get players equal to Tom's talent.
A player who has had the effect on their team that Tom Brady has had on the Patriots: Peyton Manning (fortunately Indy hasn't had a defense to match the Patriots).
You keep him, you pay him, you win with him.
We didn't win last year and we would not win this year with Brady and the current defense, and unless there are some significant changes on defense we will not win next year.

Miami Dolphins 2008 if you add in Chad Pennington. Team went from 1-15 to possible division winners.

Better to revive this than to keep starting new ones!

Its kind of like the thinking behind the "Combat Zone" in Boston. Keep all the garbage in one area so it wont pollute the rest of the city.

The self appointed forum police are as dedicated at not discussing this possibility as vehemently as they were dedicated to any serious possibility that Cassel would not be cut.

right, thats equal.

Would Matt Cassel be cut prior to this season?

Trading Tom Brady.

If your "trade Brady" idea has so much merit, how come you couldn't respond to a single point I made in the "ESPN writers on Cassel" thread and you - and no one else with this crazy, attention-whoring, poorly thought out idea - will acknowledge the salary cap repercussions of trading a guy with a ton of unpaid signing bonus $$. I'm not trying to pick on you or bait you, its just I know you're not one of the posters who just posts crap or negativity for no reason, quite the opposite generally, I'm sure you might think your idea has merit - but you can't defiantly ignore logic or choose to ignore facts that don't suit your argument.

As I understand it you can trade cap space, raising the cap space of one team and lower it for another by the exact same amount. So we work it in to the trade.

Give it a rest with these hysterical posts--it's a board meant to discuss all things Patriots. These one-liners from people like you are beyond tired. Christ, shut up.

Would Indy trade Manning for Brady? No.

Yes, Manning is the one (current) player who's salary, impact, and skill are comprable to Brady's. But you can't get him, so you can't get equal value.

Miami Dolphins 2008 if you add in Chad Pennington. Team went from 1-15 to possible division winners.

Draftees: Jake Long, Phillip Merling, Chad Henne, Kendall Langford, Shawn Murphy, Jalen Parmele, Donald Thomas, Lex Hilliard, Lionel Dotson

Plus Chad Pennington? For Tom Brady?

Nobody makes that trade even if those player's salaries don't count against the Salary cap.
