The Official Patriots vs Redskins Preseason Game Thread

Tyms and Garoppollo have a great chemistry, that's pretty obvious.

Tyms! Nice TD and he ends up in the stand.

Yesss finally something good.

Wow there's a real connection between those two. JAG might just sneak Tyms onto the roster.

JAG is the definition of a gamer.

I have to concede that The Machine has done a great job with Finch's new identity

Rex Ryan is chewing on some toes right now.

It's official, Mallett sucks.

JAG! JAG! JAG!

Is it bad to say JAG has shown more in one preseason game than Mallett has in his career?

Diamond in the rough?

That’s what I like to do,” he said. “I get a rush out of it. Any time I get a go route or a fade route, I’m ready for it because I know I can jump. I played basketball all my life, I played power forward in high school, so I know how to box out and go get it.”
As mentioned in today’s newspaper story which details his nightmarish past, Tyms’ blend of size (6-3, 210), speed (4.4 40) and leaping ability (38.5-inch vertical jump) make him an intriguing – if seriously raw – practice-squad possibility.

He played one year of high school football, attended a community college that didn’t have a football program, had seven catches as a redshirt junior at Florida A&M and added 38 receptions as a senior.

In his effort to become an all-around receiver – not just The Fade Guy – he’s shadowed Randy Moss (6-4, 210), who has nearly identical measurements. Moss, 35, is known for his freakish talent, but he’s also a crafty receiver who excels at using his body – a hip here, a hand there — to create separation from corners.

“Hanging around Randy and watching Randy and learning from Randy, I’m starting to learn how to position my body to go get the ball because he was an expert at it

Alright, the negatives were pretty glaring (was that really Logan Ryan playing? please tell me somebody stole his jersey), but the positives include a small-school sweep:

- Garoppolo is undersized, has tiny hands, comes from a small program, has no experience under center, looked shaky in practice...and yet throw him on a football field and apparently it just doesn't matter. He was far from perfect, but he showed that poise and decisiveness that are the hallmarks of real NFL quarterbacks. When he was out there, that rag-tag offense was HIS. Verrry interesting.

- Similarly, Malcom Butler. There's a University of West Alabama? Are they sure? And have you seen the kid's pathetic pro day measurables? But darned if he can't cover.

- Zach Moore might beat out even Butler for obscure college football origins. And while he did miss some assignments, he didn't look out of place on an NFL field (or at least a preseason imitation of one).

Mallett has NEVER looked this good, in any one of his 4 years.

JAG JAG JAG!
I have to disagree, I remember Mallett looking very good in his 1st preseason game, but has sucked ever since. I don't think that'll happen to Jimmy G.

Mayock should get RIPPED in the media for what he recently said about Mallet being a starting NFL QB
