11 straight completions to that point. The runs on that drive prior to that 3rd down call..... 5/1/0/3/6

Clearly, there's nothing wrong with going with the pass in that situation.

Please, think before you post. This stuff shouldn't have to be explained to people who like the team enough to post on a message board.

Exactly, it's so easy to complain in retrospect. Brady was on fire, there's a reason they did it. If we got a TD, people would be calling it brilliant.

Keep trying to convince us that is was a good call. I know how you love being right all the time so don't think too hard

There's a difference between being a call you don't like, particularly in hindsight, and a bad call. Running a draw play when you need 100 yards would be a bad call. Throwing a pass when you've gone 1 for 30 would be a bad call.

Throwing on 3rd and 1 when you've completed 11 in a row, and you've been held to 1 or 0 on two of your 5 runs in that drive, is not a bad call.

Try using your brain on this stuff, instead of just going knee jerk.

It would have been a good playcall if it had worked. It wasn't, so it wasn't. If they had ran and failed to get the 1st, fans would be complaining that they went away from Brady's hot hand and ran the ball. It was a fine playcall and the execution failed.

The playcall was logical and not blatantly bad. The only bad playcall there would have been some sort of reverse or something, or that dumb Wildcat call the Panthers ran inside the 10 earlier in the game.

felger says its was good they picked up the flag because it would be bad to endthe game on a ticky tak call :bricks::bricks:

Well that's Felger for you-always ready to spew some ****

A page out of the NBA's game.

and yet everyone STILL denies what is happening before their eyes.

Raven/SF...ONE penalty against SF, none against the Ravens....I showed dozens of clear PI's that happened in that Super Bowl. SF was DENIED at the end...clear PI...why???

you saw HIM tonight...Ray Lewis on ESPN...star power baby...keep buying them Ray Lewis jerseys too...tune into ESPN and frequent our sponsors...Ray Lewis went out on top so that means you WANT more of our products to remember this great story...until our NEXT great story comes along...suckers

Just have to mention that there was pathetic pass pro on that last play. Pats had 6 guys in to block 4 pass rushers and they failed, making Brady rush his throw.

Not saying we deserved to win after how we played but honestly how do you pick up the flag. You watched him bear hug a receiver and you throw the flag and then pick it up. I don't understand that whatsoever. Who was the idiot they called into the booth that said there's no way that was a penalty?

It is what it is I guess, nothing is going to change that. Short week and we got Denver..

I guess the argument is that while Gronk could have broken up the INT, the game would have been over anyway, and he couldn't have outright caught the pass.

Let me guess.....life hasn't been fair for you, right? Everyone is against you? The refs cost us the game......suuuuure.

But go ahead...blame the refs if it makes you feel better.

I'm not going to waste any time debating you. Based upon your response you're obviously not very astute.

Please do stop trying to debate. DaBruinz is totally correct. The refs blew it and we lost what was probably a greater comeback drive than the one against the Saints.

Brees or Wilson better own the Panthers in the playoffs

I could have sworn we had two big hard runs right up to that point? And they were not stopping the run, why would it be stupid to think we couldn't get one yard on another power run? We see how the alternative turned out, never had a shot at all on the play action.

Anyone else notice the slow finger on the clock operator? Seeing as how close these NFL games are, a couple of seconds over a few plays adds up to another opportunity for a play. I could've sworn on the Ginn TD, they ran 3-4 extra seconds after he crossed the goal line, and there was at least another couple of seconds lost on plays the Patriots called timeouts on that final drive that the clock kept running after a whistle was heard.

They actually put time back on the clock after the Ginn TD. And yes, the clock operator was very slow to stop the clock when required.

I know it's early...but this puts the #1 seed in the AFC almost out of reach. I now don't see how this D can't stop even the crap teams

Denver will only lose 2...3 max

Not really. If Denver loses its next two games, the Pats are back on top (or at least in a deep tiebreak situation with Indy).

Edit: Actually, KC would have to lose another game too. Whoops.

the over/under was between 44.5-47 at every casino.

so yeh, fans have a right to be suspicious when something obvious gets overturned.

For the non-conspiracy theorists, buck up its not all bad.

thats two games in a row Tom has looked like Tom. He was dominant all night and needed someone else to make a play.

The o line was much much improved. The extra week off did them really well.

Vereen was a huge addition, but he was body catching everything, and had a couple drops that could have been big plays. He will only get more comfortable.

Talib took about 2 years and 20mil off his deal tonight. Steve Smith was an absolute horrible matchup for him. Dennard was missed tonight.

Harmon didnt find himself too lost back there, but I wonder if they wouldve used Gregory in a spy role once Cam got moving.

I dont mind the 3rd down call, but I was surprised they didnt go for it on 4th. They had been moving all day, and every drive had been long for both teams. Thought it was worth the gamble to put the pressure on Cam to have to win it at that point.

I am not one to complain about outcomes when great games are played, cause this was a great game.

Really, we have three losses now. A minute long monsoon. A new field goal rule. A picked up flag. Until we get blown out or completely overmatched by someone, I think these losses are just the process that is the nfl season.

Exactly, it's so easy to complain in retrospect. Brady was on fire, there's a reason they did it. If we got a TD, people would be calling it brilliant.

Yep.......

There's plenty to criticize in that game. Calling a pass on that 3rd and 1 is just not one of them. People will do it, though, because it's easier to feel than to think.

You're probably right, but that's never going to win you the big one.

I don't buy that. Steve McNair and Colin Kaepernick were both hybrid QBs who came within inches of a ring.

The big issue on the one early Newton run play I remember is that Hightower clearly had spy duty, but got sucked into the line and was too slow to recover. The other big one was the one where he dodged a few sacks and at that point you just shake your head and shrug, there's not much you can do about that one.

I'm also pissed at McDaniels (AGAIN!) for some terrible play calling. Absolutely AWFUL.

We were running it will and only needed 1 yard on 3rd and 1. Instead we pass it!?!?!?!?!?!??! He makes the most bi-polar, pathetic play-calls I've ever seen

Yes, because it's always smart to run it right at a Defense that already had 8 men lined up on the line with 2 directly behind it and one covering the only receiver that is split out..

Personally, I'd have loved to see them run a sweep wide to Vereen, but that's me..

Awful way to end the game, but there's still a lot of games left in the season.

Thoughts -

- Did not like the game plan on offense. We went up against a dominating front 7 who like to grind out games just like this. We played right into their hands by slow playing it, shortening the game and limiting possessions. Yes we moved the ball, but we could have moved the ball in a hurry up, and given our offense more possessions. Plus in a fast paced game, you tire out the big guys up front which is the strength of that team.

- Brady was sharp. He was hitting guys all over the field. Again, he would have killed their secondary if we went no huddle and spread them out.

- Amendola was always open

- Vereen was uncoverable

- Ridley's fumbling issues is a concern.

- Hightower was not good. A few times on key passing plays, when he joined the rush in a delay, he ran directly into a pile of players and gave Newton the space to scramble outside. And watching him play in the open space in zone coverage is even worse than Spikes. At least with Spikes, he's got pretty good instinct and puts himself in position. Hightower has neither good instincts in zone coverage, or fast enough to cover whoever is in his zone.

- Would have been nice to see more stunts from our DL. They were far too predictable.

- Arrington was playing decent until that TD he gave up. That TD he gave up was something we've all seen Arrington do on the outside.

- I thought Harmon played pretty good.

- Awful play call by McD on the goal line in the 4th. You had Devellin, Mulligan, Gronkowski, and Dobson going out for a pass play in a condense area. Mulligan and Devellin are useless there, Gronk was double teamed, and by the time Brady looked Dobson's way, he just threw it away.

- We have the talent on offense capable of putting up big points. It's really up to the coaches if they want to let Brady direct it like he has the past few years. While I agree that there are games that we should slow it down to limit possessions, like next week against the Broncos, we are at our best when we are playing up tempo.

- Our defense is regressing. Too many injuries. Can't get off the field on 3rd down. The coaches need to be more creative to create pressure and confuse opposing OLs.
