Not sure there is anything to complain about here. In most books BB is regarded as a perennial elite coach. He has set a very very high bar for himself, especially in this era of parity and salary cap. However the absence of a SB win since 2004 is what makes his delivery appear less than what is expected of a #1 coach.
The players don't look at what he did in 2008 when Brady was injured, or how he transitioned the team from the dynasty group (Rodney, Bruschi, Vrabel, McGinnest, Light, Brown) to the current group without an obvious rebuilding year. They just look at the glitter; that's what drives them and what determines their appreciation, unless of course they are already a Patriot.
Is BB perfect? No, but then no-one is, yet he seems to be more aware of his flaws than most of his peers. Of course he makes mistakes, but they are limited to the point that we enjoy successive winning seasons. I wouldn't trade coaches with any team, and if they think he is overrated - so much the better. I, like many others on this board, prefer to fly under the radar. I don't want to be higher up the Power Rankings and I don't mind visceral responses to coaches' and players' capabilities. I do care about reasoned and balanced analysis, which is why Patsfans is one of my frequent ports of call as it tends to have a higher proportion of rational contributions than the media.
