The LOGO gauge did it!

It dawned on me last night that the Exponent study in the Wells Report proved that Walt Anderson's memory was correct and he used the LOGO gauge to measure the balls pre-game.
Great post, and an important point. I suggest sending your observations to the Pats and to Drew Fustin, http://drewfustin.com/deflategate/ . Include page numbers and quotes within the Wells report to nail down the timing of when the rubbing and then the inflation by the Pats was done.

Are you an engineer by the way? I know this looks obvious in retrospect but a bunch of people missed it. Impressive.

It's worth noting that the Exponent report does discuss the ramifications of the Logo Gauge being used Pre-Game on pp. 52-54 of its report, where Exponent likewise concludes that result is unlikely.

The big picture of course is that Exponent is misusing significant digits and not even trying to estimate or provide error bars in their analysis. For instance, they seem to treat the Anderson 12.5 psi pregame as exact, when in fact non-scientists use the term "12.5" to mean anywhere from 11.25 to 12.75 most of the time. These errors utterly swamp Exponents attempt to pin down the time the balls were measured, how wet they were, and the exact locker room temperatures to within a few minutes (i.e., that is Roderick MacKinnon's point). Still, it's simpler and more elegant to be able to use Exponent's own measurements and assumptions against them, as with your Logo gauge/rubbing point.
