If we don't give him a chance before we trade him... it could be a massive mistake.

Maybe he goes on to another team and does better... I'm ok with that if he didn't work out here first.

Mayo was a complete goob for not playing him in the several blow outs...

49ers
JAGS
Texans
Dolphins 2nd time

What a waste of a season... in so many ways.
Milton will play a lot in ore season and he could blow up, I would not trade him before that. If he can continue to improve his accuracy and work more on touch passing, with the right OC he could have some success.

One way or another, Milton proved himself to be an asset exceeding his value as a 6th round pick. Assuming that Maye takes the starters job and runs with it, the Pats have three paths for managing that asset. Path 1, develop and then trade, path 2 develop and keep as long term QB2, or trade now based on his performance against the Bills. For now path 1 is the most likely because he fills the need for a backup and his potential exceeds a mid round choice. Trade him at the end of his contract to avoid losing him for nothing. Keep him as backup QB if he is willing to sign an extension and there are no compelling offers from other teams. Should a team agree with posters and consider Milton to be the first pick if he came out this year and offer a high round draft, the team should take it.

To be clear, while I love his potential and would not want to rush out and trade him before we know his true value, I am only comparing him to the #1overall pick in that his trade value increases if there is competition for his services.

The competition for the #1 overall pick is one of the reasons it is so valuable.

If the Pats hadn’t blundered and lost #1 overall, I think most posters here were looking at what they could get in a trade as opposed to actually picking someone #1 overall.

Good perspective. I was not trying to call anyone out and understood that any references were not made in absolute terms.

Would love to see jmd bring back some of the cam packages for joe in short yardage situations.

Patriots now have 2 QBs who can run, who'd ever thunk? Let some Cam packages commence!

Its just too bad none of our wr’s can throw worth a damn . I remember in miami this year we tried one of josh’s lateral to the wr who throws it to a rb and whoever threw it couldn’t have tossed a worse ball lol

I'd flip him along with pick 38 for a move up back to the first. Maybe with Pitt at 21. The difference in value from 21 to 38 is a late 2nd/early 3rd.

Listen here mister... just cause you can predict the future doesn't mean you're right!

The best thing about Milton is that he seems to be a competent, inexpensive back up, as his cap hit for the next 3 years is about 1 million, compare to Brissett who's cap hit last year was $7.8 million..
This is a good value signing, but if some NFL team would offer a 2nd round pick then I would reconsider..

Let’s see if Josh is inventive enough to have a few trick plays using Maye and Milton at the same time.

s. Should a team agree with posters and consider Milton to be the first pick if he came out this year and offer a high round draft, the team should take it.
Matt Cassel got a 2nd round pick, Milton has more upside. Cassel wasn’t good the one season he just had great talent around him but he played an entire season so teams were bad at analyzing QB play and paid a 2nd round pick. Some Pats fans thought Cassel was worth a first.
2026 is shaping up as a possible deep QB draft which would hurt his value.
Thus he might be backing up here 3 years.
Both Maye and Milton fit Josh’s system better than the WC offense. Might Not be a bad pair in the QB room if Milton continues developing.

Clearly Milton has more potential, I think that you are underestimating Matt Cassel. It is also fair to say that Cassel was the beneficiary of the talent around him that season with the Pats. It was his first time starting since high school which is pretty crazy to think about. More to the point he led the Chiefs to a division title, made the Pro Bowl and had a 15 year NFL career. Milton would do well to match that career. If no team is willing to overpay for him, he has real value to the Pats as the long term backup.

I started thinking more and more about why milton wasn't played

Mayo probably made a deal he wouldn't play him unless he had too. I always forget that Vol connection between the two.

Milton was good with this as sitting the bench does not hurt his trade value or potential...

Then the unthinkable happened and the ownership actually stepped in and forced a change to keep Maye safe until next year.

Milton was probably pretty stoked...

"So the game I get to play in I'm getting to go against 2nd string.

Count me in."

Every fracking time (and I mean every time...so it's like 20 times every day. I have problems) I see this thread I hear...
