I just don't think that Andrews would go through the pains of camp if he didn't have the understanding that he was the starter. Sometimes, just sometimes, a player worth over $40M will just decide to retire. Andrews has spent the year working with Jake. The team seems to have decided on Strange (presuming that he is extended).

I hope you are fully recovered. We need you as a backup just in case Robinson isn't ready to start.

Thank you so much for the memories.

BOTTOM LINE
The decision belongs to Andrews unless the team wants to give him his guaranteed money as termination.
Article says he wants to play till ‘27 lolI don't think that Andrews will start the season as a backup. He'd just retire.
The only difference is 5 rounds.Anthony Richardson went top 5.
I'm still waiting for someone to tell me the difference between the two - other than Milton doesn't tap out of games when he's tired.
Sometimes after one of the first games to start the season. Historically WR was also affected by camp NFWitis. I don't think it is uncommon across the league for veterans to get to camp only to realize that their body had failed or that they lost the joy of playing and ending there. The Patriots have a fine, long-term tradition of offensive linemen retiring during training camp.
Let's see...
Extends the play with his legs
Rolls out into a useful position where he can see the field
Gives himself time and options, he can legitimately get a first down with his legs from the position he rolls out into, and it would have been a great play
But before he commits to a decision but uses his eyes
Sees Kayshon Boutte deep with nothing between him and the endzone
Makes a snap throw across his body, while moving, and puts it on target,
oh yeah, that's at least a 25 yard snapshot throw that he doesn't even have to really set his feet for and again, exactly where he wanted it to give Boutte the easiest touchdown he'll ever get in his life.
He just made a super difficult throw look easy despite a Bills defender hot on his heels, and was clearly using his head throughout the play, not just in the throw itself but in the seconds leading up to it. He gave himself every chance to make any number of successful plays just by using his feet and his head together, and then saw the one he wanted and executed one hell of a throw.
That and, he had the arm to hit Boutte in the first place, despite not being able to stop and set his feet. Not every QB even has a throw like that in their arsenal. Brissett doesn't. Maye probably doesn't, at least not on the run like that.
of the QBs we have, only Joe Milton makes that throw.
Of the QBs in the entire NFL, only a handful could reliably make that throw.
I wouldn't be too quick to fall back on draft slot prejudice here. If you'd told me that was Mahomes, or prime Russell Wilson in disguise, I might have been inclined to believe it.
It was only one play, but it was a damn elite play, and the way Milton set himself up, if the throw to Boutte wasn't there, there were other guys he might have been able to target, or he could have run for the first down if he could make one man miss.
And again, all this AFTER the pocket collapsed.
This kid might just be special.
Finally got around to watching the Milton experience. Wow, that was impressive.
After all the jokes about the guys accuracy, he was more accurate than Maye has been all season.
He might have been playing backups but he was under pressure almost every snap and had incredible awareness and pocket presence.
He threw his WRs open and hit them in stride throwing to where they would be and not at them.
He made great decisions. His first incompletion was a throw away instead of trying to force it.
His second incompletion was a perfectly placed ball to the RB in endzone where only his guy could get it, unfortunately his guy couldn't.
Not claiming he is better than Drake, but he impressed and looks like he has worked hard on his accuracy issues as they were non existent today.
If Maye were to go down for a few games I would have full confidence that Milton could win and not lose those games. Brissett is no longer needed next season
Except that is factually wrong.Against backups, and practice squad guys. Not Murders Row.
I think on the play to Boutte in particular, Maye gets sacked. Either when the pocket collapsed or in the pursuit afterwards. He doesn't quite have that ability to outrun defenders and Milton timed his escape from the pocket perfectly to get him up to speed to stay ahead of the guy closing in from the rear, and ran in a perfect direction to simultaneously escape and keep vision downfield to keep hope of a play alive. If he doesn't do that, it doesn't matter what Boutte or the Bills backup safety do.Finally got around to watching the Milton experience. Wow, that was impressive.

The squad Milton faced is probably better than our starting D right now. And he generated offense in a couple situations where Maye couldn't possibly have done against that kind of pressure.Against backups, and practice squad guys. Not Murders Row.

I don't get it.Yeah I saw that. The Milton-ites won't love that. Maye is the starter, will be a top 5 QB next year if they get the right guys around him. Milton will be the backup, will hardly see the field and then get traded to some gullible team.
I would expect any QB to improve a bit in the NFL if they are any good. Coaching is better, generally, and you can focus 100 percent of the time on your craft. So the fact that Milton performed against a team that wasn't trying at all should be expected if he has any kind of desire to improve.
Edit to add someone posted they could see Milton inserted into a game if Maye struggles. Thats a pipe dream, great way to ruin a QB.
Oh I'm not trading Milton this offseason. I might entertain it next offseason if he shows out in the preseason. I dunno, he will walk at some point after year 4 so, just need to figure out how to maximize the asset.I don't get it.
The draft after the top 15 is at best a 50-50 shot to get a contributor.
So, half the time we should be getting someone who isn't worth much.
And half the time we should be getting someone of value.
====
AND THEN
When we get someone of value, posters want to trade him so that we can get another 50-50 player. That make no sense to me.

1) The team drafted the very, very raw Milton to be the emergency QB in 2024 and to try to train up to be our #2 in 2025-2027.
2) The very good coaching of QB's succeeded. At very least, we have a QB who should be a backup for the next three years, even if some think he isn't quite ready now.
3) We should be congratulating those who drafted Milton and who filled a key roster position for a 4 year stay. I didn't want him; I was wrong. Having 3 coaches whose #1 priority was the development of QB's really helped.
4) If Milton get ZERO reps, I will celebrate. That would mean that Maye has been healthy.
5) As an aside, Milton will be active in 2025 and therefore available for a few plays if the OC wants to use that option.
The Bills struggle a bit on D with their starters, some of whom are not very good. Their backups are certainly not capable of displacing them. I would definitely not say the Bills backups are better than the Patriots starters. This isn't an All-World defense. The squad Milton faced is probably better than our starting D right now. And he generated offense in a couple situations where Maye couldn't possibly have done against that kind of pressure.

I'm a huge fan Joe Milton but in no way is he replacing Maye.Yeah I saw that. The Milton-ites won't love that. Maye is the starter, will be a top 5 QB next year if they get the right guys around him. Milton will be the backup, will hardly see the field and then get traded to some gullible team.

I think Milton adds something at 6'5" and 250+ lbs. LBs were bouncing off him. With an NFL off season he is going to be a big boy. I would like to see him in a Taysom Hill role with 5 to 8 snaps per game doing a lot of QB runs with a pass or two sprinkled in.4) If Milton get ZERO reps, I will celebrate.
