The Jest will have the ability to buy back the last two years. Any contracts in existince will be grandfathered. Why would the buy back be dq'd, but not the inability to franchise him? Not gonna happen. It's all moot anyway, as the Jets will end up either extending Revis or creating a new contract.
Sorry to squah your dreams....just keep believing in ways that the Jets aren't going to continually beat the Pats asses over the next 5-7 years....dream away.
Last 05 seasons alone Patriots 2004 through 2009 Patriots 10 Jets 3. (76.9 win rate)
Last 10 seasons alone Patriots 2000 through 2009 Patriots 14 Jets 7. (66.7 win rate)
Must be fun possessing the brain power of a pencil. The Jets suck.
Actually, I am quite sure I have more brain power than you. Perhaps people from Australia need to learn how to read. There is nothing in my post nor the part you quoted that suggests the Jets were better than the Pats over the past decade. My statement was about the next 5-7 years. Do you understand the word next, as in future not past? Stop being a smug fu.k and learn to read before you start insulting someone's intelligence, mate.
See this is where your pretend intellect falls down. Given that the Jets have absolutely no history to suggest your claim one has to reference historical material.Actually, I am quite sure I have more brain power than you. Given the Jets have sucked in the past and they sucked in 2009 bar a charmed run in the playoffs, recent history suggests that the Patriots will continue to own the Jets and the Jets will continue to suck. In the last 10 seasons you have been owned. In the last 5 seasons you have been destroyed. The apparent juggernaut Jets went 1-1 and were outscored head to head by the Patriots in 2009. The Patriots have a better roster and a better head coach. The trend will continue.
Not bad for an Australian who apparently can't read. The total demolition of a Jets fan for everyone to see... because the Jets suck.
Tell me, Nostradamus, what makes you think the Jets will have the better team over the next 5-7 years, especially when it looks like the Jets are not going to be able to afford half of their starters in a couple of years and the Patriots only getting younger?
Actually, it still seems feasible, although difficult, to keep the core young players. Pats have had and still have similar issues. They've done a nice job with Mankins. Funny, how the approach of the two seems has been pretty similar. Only difference to you is that when the Pats do it it is genius, when the Jets do they are screwed.
Let's see how the season shakes out, shall we fella?
Let's establish this very quickly and succinctly.Oh yes, Aussie dude, you destroyed me. I'm not sure how I will be able to leave my house tommorow. Your bias and homerism, if we can call it homerism since this isn't your home, are blinding you. You can't possibly believe that the Patriots have a better roster comong into this season. They just simply don't, regardless of how you try to slice it. That doesn't mean that the Pats won't beat the Jets this year, nor does it mean that the Jets will wind up with the better record. But, the Jets have the better roster. I won't argue about coaching. I think Beli is a great coach. Misearble human being, but a great coach. Actually, it's completely unfair to compare them, as Ryan has only one season as an HC. I do know that Ryan has a better start to his career than Beli. How it will comapre in the end, who knows.
I do love how you and your compatriots site the Jets luck last year. Is there really a franchise that benefited more from luck over the past decade than your Pats? I suggest not, tuck rule anyone. Listen, football is a game of lucky bounces, missed calls, bad measurement, the whole lot. People can continue to say the Jets were lucky to get in last year. The fact is that they demonstrated during the playoffs that they were a capable team. Let's see how this season pans out. None of us really know what will happen. I think it is clear that the AFCE should be competitive and it's likely that the Pats, Jets, and Fins all have a chance to take the division.
I'd like to keep this civil, or at least get it back to civil. I think for the most part there are very knowledgeable posters on this board. We'll never get to a point where we agree on eah other's team. The competitiveness, history, and genuine dislike between the two clubs is too great. But, I do enjoy coming here and reading this groups opinions, as biased as they may be. It's the same on Jets boards. Typically, I am respectful, and try not to start up huge sh!tstorms. It's just when it gets to insults and namecalling, instead of good debate on the issues where I can upset, and likely come off as a troll or disrespectful poster.
Good luck to you and the Pats...I truly do hope that we have some great games to cheer on this season.
The Pats have sustained a run of success for the past decade with significant roster turnover. Logan Mankins isn't our first dance and he certainly won't be our last. At no point during that ten year run were the Patriots facing the type of roster turnover/crunch that the Jets would be facing in a couple of seasons. Not to mention, the Jets may have to pay their best defensive player north of $15M per year just to keep him. Meanwhile, the Patriots have suddenly become one of the youngest teams in the division and have secured draft pick after draft pick into the future. So, I'll ask you again, what is it that makes you seriously think that the Jets will be the better team for the next 5-7 years?
ReViS IslAnD! ReViS = JeSuS!! DARRR!!! spygate DARR!!
I swear the Jets and their fans think they give out Lombardis for losing to the Colts in the AFCCG
Let's establish this very quickly and succinctly.
1. I have called you no names. You have called me names.
2. I have referenced material that doesn't support your opinion.
3. I'm not a homer and never have been.
4. I don't live in the US but support everything Boston sports area. Does that make me less of a fan? Apparently so in your eyes. Don't mind the fact that I get up at 2AM every Monday morning to watch the Patriots.
5. Sometimes you need to get lucky in a game. 3 Superbowl Championships, 4 Superbowl appearances and a decade of dominance is not luck.
6. The Patriots depth chart is fuller than the Jets depth chart especially given offseason additions and subtractions in team scheme and personnel.
7. The Jets have shown nothing to suggest a sustained run of success. The Patriots have established history.
Is there anything that I have missed there other than the obvious the Jets suck?

Well we can safely assume that you aren't the sharpest pencil in the case because that in fact is a comment about your inability to think sharply, not a name call like "smug f.vck" would you agree?1. Correction, you did indeed start the name calling, something about a pencil.
2. The material you referenced has to do with what has occured in the past, not the future. That being said, I understand why you would expect the pattern to continue. I just happen to believe that the Jets are more competitive now than the Jets teams you referenced over the past decade.
3. I have no basis to claim that you are or are not a homer.
4. No, the fact that you do not live in Boston or the US does not make you less of a fan. I was making a play on the word home more than anything else. I can appreciate the difficulty you must experience in being a fan half way across the world. I respect that and I am intrigued by it. It's hard enough being a fan of NY teams living in Chicago. I can't imagine how hard it must be from Perth.
5. Indeed, the Patriots have been dominant, and their run is not indicative of "just being lucky." My point is that the Pats have definitely experienced some luck on their run, without which they would not have had nearly as much success.
6. On this we will have to disagree, and I do believe our disagreement stems from the lens through which we see things. I happen to believe that the Jets are better at most positions, and I think they have better depth. I am sure that you feel the same about the Pats.
7. The Pats certainly do have the recent history, no way to argue that. Only time will tell whether or not the Jets can have any sustained success. I happen to think that the Jets finally have the ownership, front office, coaching staff, and player talent to make a sustained run. Yes, we are well aware of the contract issues. It's just as much conjecture to say that the Jets won't be able to sign their talent as it is to say they will. Again, we will see. But, if things are done the "Patriot Way" - building a core and good coaching to fill in the other gaps, there is no reason to believe that the Jets can't be a good team for the forseeable future.
I did try to provide reasonable and straight forward answers for you. Believe me, I plan to stay connected to this board whether or not the Jets are good. I have been a member here for a few years. I don't post a lot, after all it is your board, but I will be around.
Well we can safely assume that you aren't the sharpest pencil in the case because that in fact is a comment about your inability to think sharply, not a name call like "smug f.vck" would you agree?
As for luck. The Jets wouldn't have seen the playoffs had the Colts and Bengals not pulled their starters. Sure you had to still beat them and I'm sure you probably would have beaten the Bengals, but not the Colts. That's luck personified.
The Jets went 9-7 whilst taking away two key components in their success last season. Alan Faneca and Thomas Jones. LT is a washed up hack. Unless the Jets plan on transitioning to a pass first run second scheme then the additions of the wideouts is largely name addtions. It's not Favre quarterbacking the Vikings in the Meadowlands with Sanchez and the Jets.
If the Jets put two to three seasons of sustained success, i.e ten win seasons or multiple playoff appearances then sure you have some footing to launch attacks from. Until then, quite simply the Jets suck. 5 years at the top is a long time. There's really only 3 organizations who have done that in the past decade and even then the Steelers have collapsed more than they succeeded at times. That leaves the Colts and the Patriots. It's no easy feat.
The reality is to perform long term you need a sound team with an all star Quarterback. The Colts have Manning and the Patriots have Brady. I just can't see Sanchez ever being in this group.
Well, Ausbacker, I have tried to be contrite in my responses to you, but you continue to want to push it. So be it. The reality is that you did indeed start with the name calling and continued to do so even in response to a very resptful post from me. My comment to you was in direct response to your initiation of the mud slinging. I hardly need to prove or disprove my intelligence on a chat board. But, I think it is clear that I have demonstrated my superior emotional intelligence to yours through this discussion. Good luck to you and your Pats. Please keep believing that the Jets suck, it will make the sting even worse for you at season's end.
