Muasau has started 18 games the past 2 years. I'm gonna assume he's better than any of the backups LBs who have played in the preseason for us. I think this is a great pickup.

I just gotta say... I really hate when teams sign other scrubs off of bad teams cutdowns - who are indeterminately different than the guy you've had in your building for the last 4 months. Rouse, Muasau, Latu. These guys haven't done anything in the NFL either. And they're brand new to your system. If we're going to part ways with our young crop of guys, I get it - but it should be for serious contributors and upgrades at that position.

For some god unknown reason you want to expose the better players in order to keep the worst. Practice squad players are free agents. Anyone can claim them at any time.
Your argument that anyone who uses a practice squad call up, proves an example of putting your better player on the practice squad so you could could keep a guy you would never put on the field is ignorant.
Teams use the ability to elevate because it’s a tool. They don’t use it the way you suggest, because it’s dumb way to use the tool.

I wouldn’t say Latu came from a bad team. Neither did Rouse. Muassau is the only move we’ve done this with.

Kiner too I guess. But Arizona actually has a deep RB room.

I also assume Cowden knows him. We’ll see, but they seem like he would be an improvement over Britt, Muma, et al.

For some reason almost every position group on that paper list seems thin. In my mind we were a stronger (deeper) roster this year, but it just doesn't look like that. I'm not being a panic-fan, but we could struggle this year. If 1 injury to the top half of each position group, and we could be a 9 win team.
Weak at DE & TE, Very Old & Young/Injury concerns at OL, No experienced depth at DB & LB
WR & RB is the only area with good starters & decent depth (presuming Miller, Larison on PS)

last year, depth included Gibson, Gibbens, Jennings, Tavai, Hooper and Lowe.
all combined with well over 400 nfl games under their belts.
they are replaced by players that are certainly cheaper, and perhaps down the road might be better, but today, are those players better?
imo, the answer is... of course they are not
therefore, today, the team is not better

You couldn't have been more wrong about everything as far as depth at this position,

but more than likely, they are here because 5 players that were roster locks, are not here. Bryant, Hill, Landry, Jennings and Schooler.
In addition, any of those 3, most likely will not be here as the 5 come back (really 4, as Hill will not be back). furthermore, they may not last the week (or even today) pending other teams players coming on board.

Marcus Bryant was replaced on the 53 by Walter Rouse. His spot wasn't in question.

Jennings? He didn't make the 53 last year, he was on the PS the year prior... and wasn't going to make it this year. Part of Jennings utility was being good enough to play, but not so good that other teams would poach him after bouncing him to the practice squad.

If Landry were available, it meant 7th rd pick Hutchins wouldn't make the 53. And if Arkin didn't make it, he would be replaced by another UDFA in Julian Hill. Classic...

There's no justification for Charles Woods being on an NFL roster, I'll call that an outright mistake by the coaches... they're obviously enamored with his personality.

Bottom line is at least two out of three UDFA's who made the team did so because they're good prospects. Canada is one of the fastest guys on the team. Jacobs is strong and instinctive. Even Arkin is big, tries hard and knows what to do.

UDFA's are not unique to the Patriots, nor any of the good talent evaluating team in the NFL. A quarter of NFL active rosters are UDFA's, over a quarter of the 11 rookies who made this team yesterday are UDFA's... same in 2025.

Suggesting they're rare was a dumb statement. A quarter of the workforce is not rare... but that's what you've been drilling into all our heads the last couple months.
