Re: Julius Peppers

Peppers has been at the top of my wish list since the season ended. I would love to see them take serious runs at Jared Allen and Peppers. Talib is as good as gone and they need to turn their front 7 into something really nasty. They will have more opportunity to address their defense more significantly in free agency than in the draft imo, so other than Edelman I want them to go after veterans like Peppers, Allen, Rodgers-Cromartie, Arthur Jones, Linval Joseph...etc....And then go offense in the draft.

Just seeing some of those names and imagining them in a Pats uni makes me salivate like a dog.

I would be ecstatic to see Jones, Joseph, Allen, Peppers, or even DRC (despite his softer play in the tacking game, I still think the stats show that he's a very good coverage back) come here.

Re: Julius Peppers

Over the years, I've developed a policy of never believing that a guy is willing to leave a bunch of money on the table to play for a contender unless he says he is. Even then, I'm still skeptical.

I don't really blame the player, either. If my career entailed earning 95+% of my lifetime earning potential before age 40, I'd be after every penny I could get.
+1. I think a lot of people in here over estimate how many players are willing to leave hundreds of thousands of dollars (in not millions) on the table to play for a contender.

Re: Julius Peppers

my wish list is Jared Allen who is 2 years younger and has 46 sacks over the last 3 years but I cant say I would be mad if the pats signed Peppers or any pass rusher

Re: Julius Peppers

34 years old
45 tackles, 7 sacks last season

Unless he's dirt cheap no thanks.

If JP comes here, he'll probably be third in the DE depth chart behind Jones and Ninko. If that's the case, I'd take those 7 sacks any time.

That's more them what Carter, Buchanan, and Bequette gave us combined last year.

Re: Julius Peppers

Peppers will be released (according to Schefty) and I think we should seriously take a look. He already has his money and would be willing to take less for a SB (I think at least.)

What do you guys think? I know we need a DT/WR more, but still. Jones + Peppers.

You do realize the Patriots have not won a Super Bowl since the 2004 season, right? That "win a super bowl" sell job Krafty used to throw at potential free agents doesn't fly anymore. If Krafty shows him the most money, he'll come to Foxboro, if Krafty treats his nickels and dimes like manhole covers like he usually treats them, the only free agents we'll see sign here are back of the roster guys and old guys with injury histories....

Re: Julius Peppers

Peppers is very seymorish to me.
The dude is going to expect to get paid as the 26 year old peppers and not the 34 year old peppers.

Some team will give him a 1 year 8 million deal. he wont be coming to the pats

Really, is there any chance of Steve Smith coming here?

I just saw this:

Honestly, he's been the only reason I managed to watch the Panthers for as long as I have.

I know this is just a completely selfish, player fan driven dream, but I wanted this to happen 3 years ago when he was a free agent.

He's old. He's probably too expensive. We have Edelman. There's really almost no reason to logically think this would be a good move, and yet....I always felt he would be an amazing fit here and would love for this to happen. He's a smart, tough, edgy player, who runs A+ routes, and who badly deserves a ring and probably has at least 1 or 2 more years in him. He still plays with a lot of fire and wants it bad. And if there's one thing I believe this team needs, is more guys who want a ring badly. Plus he told Cam Newton he's a shmuck to his face. And that counts for something too.

And if for no other reason, the reason I see this possible is...we signed Tebow FFS. Anything is possible.

That's all I got.

What are the chances? Let me down gently please.

Re: Julius Peppers

Can I get a link to where Schefter says Peppers will be cut? He didnt tweet that.

Re: Really, is there any chance of Steve Smith coming here?

I have liked Smith's game for a long time but he's getting old now and is due a good amount of money. If you believe everything you see on Twitter though, NE is supposedly working on a complex trade to get him.

Really? Who's saying that? Anyone worth mentioning?

Re: Really, is there any chance of Steve Smith coming here?

Would freaking love it if he came here. The guy is a gamer. Crazy competitor who'll do whatever it takes to win. Takes every perceived slight personally. His mentality is similar to Rodney. We all saw how he affected the team.

Re: Really, is there any chance of Steve Smith coming here?

From what I've seen last season he was in a terrific shape.

Re: Really, is there any chance of Steve Smith coming here?

That guy is a nasty mental case. I don't care how much of a "gamer" he is. He wouldn't fit here.

The same guy who wrote his "Pats GM for a Day" column, Mike Tanier. I am pretty sure he wasn't being serious. The only guys I really follow are Glazer and Schefter.

Re: Really, is there any chance of Steve Smith coming here?

Interesting guy, doesn't matter if he is old. He can still play, remember he gave talib a hard time last season match up.

Re: Really, is there any chance of Steve Smith coming here?

He has definitely got something left in the tank with a good QB. He made Talib look like a school girl for some of that game.

However he has some big negatives. He punched a teammate in the face pretty much ruining his career. Like mentioned, he is a pretty weird guy.

I'll let the upper brass do their homework on this one.

I was just going to post that. He's the only WR I can remember last season to do that to Talib.

Not to metion, there's no other guy I'd rather have at WR when facing the Ravens. No way in hell, would this go down this way, if that was Smitty on our team.

In fact, this wouldn't even take place at all, because #29 would know better.

Re: Really, is there any chance of Steve Smith coming here?

most likely he is goign to be released. I wouldnt mind signing him to a 1 year deal. he's durable and a physical receiver

Santonio Holmes

I know he might not be popular around here with his baggage and all but I for one think he's a better WR than his recent production. Holmes is a former SB MVP who hasn't played with a Good QB in a while I will quote what he said about himself regarding his recent QB "I cannot throw it to myself and catch it" Holmes has a point. He just turned 30 in his late prime...I think he might be worth a one year pact. I think Holmes would love to stick it to his former Team he has made alot of $$$ so it shoudn't be about the money with him. With his route running and ablility I think Brady would really like him. Holmes is a little bit bigger than our smurphs I think he would thrive here...thoughts.

He said it last night on SportsCenter. He said the Bears will try and shop him, but that the realistic expectation is that he will be cut.
