DRAFT The draft

So. In this case the team will have had insurance and a quality backup for 3 years. For the fans, we would be very happy having Brady for 3 years.

Some (most?) would just sit and assume that both Brady and Hoyer will be here for 3 years, and that, in any case, Brady won't miss any games. We can deal with the issue in 2022.

Of course, there is a small possibility that Brady won't be playing every game for the next 3 years. In that case, Hoyer will take over, until we deal with the situation then.
=====
For some (most) waiting is just fine.

Yeah, I understand the multitude of scenarios, including that Brady gets hurt and/or changes his mind about going to 45.
Not sure the Pats are up for using that much draft capital for insurance on a multi-scenario situation like this.

But I've already been wrong on three things today, just in my own home, so who knows?

It doesn't seem too outrageous to use a 1 (32) at this point, given that we've used a 2nd, and 3rd in the past. Of course, we also might use 2 (56) or 2 (64).

2014 2 (62)
2011 3 (74)
2008 3 (94)

If 64 is possible, that seems reasonable, even if it just turns into a Garoppolo situation.

Arm strength is my concern with him.

Not that this is everything, but he had the highest ball velocity at the Combine this year. You sure about his arm strength? Also, he admitted that they watch a lot of Patriots tape and steal their plays for the WVU scheme. Seems like a natural fit to me, even if I would prefer to wait a year to add a QB. Grier has a lot of good qualities.

Year: 2019

Will Grier West Virginia 58 (Left) 59 (Right)
Brett Rypien Boise State 59 (Left) 56 (Right)
Clayton Thorson Northwestern 58 (Left) 56 (Right)
Nick Fitzgerald Mississippi State 57 (Left) 52 (Right)
Jordan Ta'amu Mississippi 56 (Left) 55 (Right)
Gardner Minshew Washington State 55 (Left) 53 (Right)
Ryan Finley North Carolina State 55 (Left) 52 (Right)
Tyree Jackson Buffalo 54 (Left) 54 (Right)
Daniel Jones Duke 53 (Left) 54 (Right)
Drew Lock Missouri 54 (Left) 53 (Right)
Easton Stick North Dakota State 53 (Left) 54 (Right)
Jake Browning Washington 54 (Left) 52 (Right)
Trace McSorley Penn State 53 (Left) 52 (Right)
Jarrett Stidham Auburn 53 (Left) 52 (Right)
Dwayne Haskins Ohio State 52 (Left) 52 (Right)
Kyle Shurmer Vanderbilt 52 (Left) 50 (Right)
Kyler Murray Oklahoma did not throw

Per PFF (if you like them), he led the nation on go routes, too. Not usually a quality of a weak-armed QB if you ask me.

Go route
Will Grier, West Virginia

No college quarterback throws a better go route than Grier, a trend that has continued from a season ago. He leads the nation with 1,207 yards and 24 big-time throws on go routes, doing so without throwing a turnover-worthy pass. In total, he’s completed 35 of 68 go routes for 17 touchdowns, averaging a hefty 24.2 yards downfield per target, routinely leading his receivers so well that they’ve gained 32.8 percent of his passing yards after the catch.

I don't know watching the combine with a pretty good local QB in Philly.
He said Jones,Stidham,Lock,Jackson had the better accuracy and quick release and good form at the combine.
I trust his evaluations.
He's normally spot on about college players.

It's too bad Stidham can't play QB.

I don't really want a QB this year, but Grier is a logical choice. I see plenty of accuracy and zip. I'm not advocating for drafting him, but I think he's light years better than Stidham, Finley, Jackson, etc. I'd take him over Rosen, too.
