So, that was a lackluster effort by the defense. Physically dominated. Blown coverages. Lack of meaningful pass rush or run defense.

My question is, do we take this to be a sign this defense is abysmal? Or, does part of this failure stem from the bye week leaving the team lackadaisical and getting run into by a bus?

The pivotal play on the other side of the ball was Gronk getting smacked earlier in the game. That play sent the message that Seattle was the tougher team since they shook our beast. In any case, though, if you give up 31 to the Seahawks odds are you'll lose due to their defense being crazy good.

I think our ceiling with this type of defense is nothing more than "serviceable," but I don't think that should come as a huge surprise to anyone. With the type of offense that we have, the hope should be to hold the opponent to 20 points or so. That would've put them around #12 in terms of points allowed for last season. I don't think we're going to see anything better than that.

I don't believe that they are as bad as we saw on Sunday night, so hopefully that provides a wake-up call to both players and coaches.

31 to the seahawks's alot. The seahawks have weapons but they ain't supposed to be this great on offense considering how awful their o line play is. Our defense should be embarrassed and hopefully they play better next time against one of the big time contenders.
