The Bye Is The Time For An Extension Or Two

What?

My nominations
Wise
Hooper
Hooper I'd like to see back.
I'm good with wrong-side-of -30 Wise, and him showing up for 3 games a season, and disappearing for the other 14. Only thing that would give me pause, is that he's the only DE on the roster who can sometimes set the edge.

My nominations
Wise
Hooper
I like Wise as a player and as a leader in the locker room. He's been a team-first guy and has played relatively well, albeit I think he's been dealing with injuries for a good portion of this season. The latest foot injury he suffered a month ago seems like it's definitely been hampering him, and before that, he also had a shoulder injury. But provided they don't break the bank, I'd like to see him stick around while they hopefully develop behind him.

But I would definitely say Hooper is among the more pleasant surprises this season. Nice to see a compliment to Henry, and he's been better than expected. Again, if they can keep him at a reasonable number, having him and Henry moving forward wouldn't be a bad thing, especially if Bell develops and gives them something.

Wise is 30 years old next year so his performance will start declining. We need a younger DE and DT.

We need a young complete TE for the future: Henry and Hooper are the same age.

Hooper, maybe a modest one befitting a#2 TE. Wise, as much as I admire his effort and persistence, has never been more than a backup tweener. If we can't improve there, maybe give it up.

Wise has been more than adequate which in itself is better than we can say about most of the team. Given the state of the rest of the roster, and more importantly the need to improve it, 'more than adequate' is worth keeping around at a reasonabe price. I'm all for getting better but maybe the team improves more by addressing where it sucks before expending its finite resources replacing what doesn't. If Wise can be extended on a 2-3 year contract at a reasonable price that's a deal a team in the Pats position should make vs a team with a better overall roster.

I can't help but feel if Hooper could be had at a modest price the deal would already be done. I hope I'm wrong but after a down year in Vegas last season led him to signing here for relatively short money he may be looking for mo' money.

Jonathan Jones, Alex Austin, Christian Ellis

Last year, I wondered out loud about keeping any of the lot. People admonished the thought. Come to find out, 3-10 later, maybe I was right. Why bother with 95% of the players on this roster ? Not only do they lose, they lose in ridiculous fashion AND give the impression they don’t care.

Keep Gonzalez, Maye, and perhaps Barmore. Who cares what happens to the rest ? I can hear it now “you need ___ players to field a team blah blah blah…”. WHO CARES ?! If they are going to be a bottom 3 team AGAiN, why not load up on a bunch of smart, if untalented street FAs ? It’s exhausting watching this roster.

That rebuttal I've heard when criticizing the re-signings of Dugger, Owenu, Rham and Barmore was weak. Clearly, 3 out of the 4 have almost zero impact on the team and nobody would complain had Owenu or Dugger left in FA.

However, the better argument is that every team has spend 89% of the cap in a 4 year span.

Jones is a serious question mark. How much is he worth to play CB? for how long a contract? I don't think that he would sign an incentive-laden contract without seeing what he is worth in free agency.

With regard to Ellis and Austin, I think that the team will wait until after the season to sign RFA's. Of course, the ERFA's have no choice.

All of these will likely be back for camp. Of course, we should test these players in the rest of the games.

RFA'S: Austin, Ellis, Brown, Cotten
ERFA's: Pharms, Jacobs, Jackson

No one would have complained if Onwenu left in FA and we had another of Wolf's choice of OL's?

ROFL!!!

I am looking forwards to Bell being given some time. He could be the future, there was a lot of positivity about when he was drafted.
