Is 2013 the year that the Broncos finally end the 13-3 Curse? I all-to-well remember the heartache in 1984, 1996, 2005 and 2012.
--Antonio, Pueblo

Yes, venerable sports radio host Sandy Clough had told me about that one. To review, the Broncos lost to Mark Malone, Frank Pollard, Louis Lipps and the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 1984 home playoff.

They were 13-3 when they lost to Mark Brunell, Natrone Means, Jimmy Smith, Tony Boselli and the Jacksonville Jaguars in a 1996 home playoff.

They were 13-3 when they lost to Ben Roethlisberger, Cedrick Wilson, Jerome Bettis and the Steelers in a 2005 home playoff.

They were 13-3 when they lost to Joe Flacco, Jacoby Jones, Torrey Smith and the Baltimore Ravens in a 2012 home playoff.

When the Broncos won the Super Bowl in 1997 and '98, their regular-season records were 12-4 and 14-2.

Nice find, Triumph; but if we expect to compete at a high enough level to win, it will be due to the fact that we outplayed them, and not some quirky "13-3" curse.

That being said, it's always nice to find these kinds of things just the same.

When things begin going south is always nice to blame a curse.

Just before Pedro Martinez told Grady Little that he wanted to stay on the mound in game 7 of the 2003 ALCS, Derek Jeter quipped to his Yankees teammates that "Just watch, the ghosts will start coming out."

Curses are very real.

I put a curse on the Raiders in 2001 that's still rolling along to this day. I did put a 25 year limit on it though (2001-1976).

Eh, even if they win this weekend, I don't think that "curse" is being shaken. They don't match up well with either team remaining in the NFC and would probably get rolled. The Pats match up better with either of those teams but whoever comes out of Seattle is the last man standing in the NFC is going to be the favorite either way, and they should be.

I'm sorry, but isn't the curse already broken?

After all, in those other scenarios they lost their first playoff game.

This year they already won a game and now are in the Championship game. There is no curse to losing Championship games because you are facing tough competition. While there is disappointment, there should be no shame in losing a conference championship game.

There are multiple great teams, but only one can win.

well one things for sure....you won't hear Nance blurting out these type of stats, at least not while the game is in progress.
He'll not do anything to possibly jinx his love for Manning

Being a Pats fan you realize they beat us in 2005 playoffs right?

It's a stupid premise, because as you'll remember, they beat us in the playoffs one of those years (2005). If not winning the Super Bowl every year they go 13-3 counts as a "curse", does not winning the Super Bowl every year Welker is on a given team a curse?

No they did not. Denver lost in AFCC vs the Steelers.

NE lost in the first game which was the Divisional round @ Denver. Brady threw a pick 6 and Champ Bailey ran it in 99 yards for a TD. Ben Watson almost/did catch Bailey at the 1 yard line. BB challenged and lost.Plummer was Denver QB. I was there.

There is a curse that Denver always loses at home in the post season when they are 13 - 3 in the regular season.
