The 2017 Mock Draft Thread

I think we already have that guy on the roster in Kyle Van Noy. ;)

I actually like KVN a lot better. Cunningham might have the higher ceiling, but he's really frustrating to watch.

So's KVN, ;) But is shows just how important "football instincts" are. I'd love to put Elandon Robert's instincts in KVN's body.

Using first-pick.com:

Round 1 Pick 32: David Njoku, TE
Round 2 Pick 32: Ryan Anderson, OLB/DE
Round 3 Pick 39: Howard Wilson, CB
Round 4 Pick 5 (LAR): Zach Banner,OG/OT
Round 4 Pick 25: DOnta Foreman, RB
Round 4 Pick 34 (LAR): Taywan Taylor,WR
Round 5 Pick 5 (LAR): Nathan Peterman,QB
Round 5 Pick 19: Eddie Vanderdoes, DT
Round 6 Pick 10 (PHI): Jalen Reeves-Maybin, OLB

Wow! That would be a great draft as far as I'm concerned. Really good mix of players. I'll have to try out their simulator.

So I signed up and tried three attempts, some with trades, some without. I like how the computer drafts players at different slots, so you can't just look a the results and cherry pick for your next attempt. My only rule was that I didn't allow myself to draft the same player twice. I just wanted to see a baseline for what kind of players may or may not be available, even though some of them (like Mixon) will probably not be on the Patriots draft board. Fun exercise; I'd be pretty happy with any of the draft results, regardless of the grade that the site stamped on my picks!

Fanspeak has one with a bunch of different boards from which to choose (CBS, Walter, arrowhead, bleacher report, etc) but no trades.

Now stop playing around and get to work! We need some mid round LB prospects here, UDFA corners, wrs etc etc..

Here is how I did.

32: R1P32 S JAMAL ADAMS LSU
64: R2P32 EDGE DEMARCUS WALKER FLORIDA STATE
96: R3P32 C PAT ELFLEIN OHIO STATE
103: R3P39 DL JALEEL JOHNSON IOWA
137: R4P30 TE JORDAN LEGGETT CLEMSON
163: R5P19 RB JAMES CONNER PITTSBURGH
183: R5P39 S TEDRIC THOMPSON COLORADO
239: R7P21 LB BEN BOULWARE CLEMSON

Of course in no world would Adams fall to 32 :p I would probably see if I could trade him for a LB and CB.

Yeah, well, it is what it is.

Here's my first attempt of the year, using Fanspeak with CBS/NFL DraftScout:

32: R1P32
EDGE TACO CHARLTON
MICHIGAN

64: R2P32
G DION DAWKINS
TEMPLE

96: R3P32
CB HOWARD WILSON
HOUSTON

103: R3P39
TE ADAM SHAHEEN
ASHLAND

137: R4P30
RB JAMES CONNER
PITTSBURGH

163: R5P19
S JOSH HARVEY-CLEMONS
LOUISVILLE

183: R5P39
OT STORM NORTON
TOLEDO

239: R7P21
DL D.J. JONES
OLE MISS

I seriously doubt that Charlton will be available at 32, but I would be all over him if he were; and Dawkins might be able to stay outside at OT.

Some players I haven't looked at yet, but I'd be all over Charlton, Wilson and Shaheen. And I've heard very good things about Dawkins. Nice.

Saw an all Alabama draft rounds 1 - e that blew me away the other day.

Trade jimmy to Cleveland for #12. We take ilb foster.
#32 de Tim WILLIAMS
#64 de/olb Anderson
#96 dt Tomlinson
#103 ss Jackson

Not a bad haul!

So this years pre combine / marts madness. Didnt trade Jimmy G or swaped draft picks ( etc Vikings #32 for 47+86 )
Pats resigns Hightower and Butler
Pats looses Ryan, Harmon, Bennett, Blount, Sheard

#32 TJ Watt Egde
#64 Roderick Johnson T
#96 Jake Butt TE
#103 Fabian Moreau CB
#137 John Johnson S
#162 Micheal Roberts TE
#183 Deatrich Wise Jr. DL
#239 Joe Mixon RB

Watt is playmaker, best way to say it. Still Raw but BB gonna love him.
R Johnson flying under the radar. Long arms and good mobility but still raw. Scar would love him.
Butt in the 3 is a value pick with upside.
Moreau replaces Ryan as a very physical corner
J Johnson is replaces Harmon and ST monster
Roberts is raw with huge upside AND those hands
Wise Jr Needs to grain 20 LBS and move inside as 5T. Very long arms / hands
Joe Mixon Risk/Reward.. late flyer, can be cut at anytime. Plus All hates us anyway
